Jul 29, 2015Is there a way to globally change the Default Folder View? I've used Folder Options | View | Apply to Folders a few times, but it only seems to stick on folders I've opened.

View 6 RepliesHow do I change the default view to list for every folder even those on a usb thumb drive. It seems to revert back to detail view
View 1 RepliesIts possible to customize one or more folders to a specific file view like "list" or "details" for example? Whenever I close the folder or go back to the previous folder the default system sets back default view which was adopted by the system or the view that was defined by me for all the folders in: Folder Options -> View -> Apply to Folders.
View 7 RepliesI have a large number of research articles on my laptop (via dropbox). One thing I loved about Windows 7 was that I could just hit the Start button, type a keyword into the search box and a results window would pop up that listed every matching document on my computer. I was also able to customize this so that it always came up in "Details" view.
I can't seem to get that same thing with Windows 10. When I type something into the search field on the task bar, I have to first select that I want it to search my stuff and not the web. After I do that it will only bring up a limited amount of results. I have to click again to see the whole set of hits--and then if I hit "Folder Explorer" at the bottom of the menu, it brings up the results in "Tile" view.
First, I can't figure out how to set the Folder Explorer default view to "Details".
Also, is there a way I search directly into Folder Explorer via the task bar search box?
Next, I don't mind that the taskbar offers me the option of websearch
I recently upgraded my Hard Drive with an Samsung SSD Drive evo 850 for my operating system and programs. I placed the secondary drive to host my file folders. Somehow in the mist of trying to automatically port my default Document, Downloads, Pictures,Videos and Music Folder to the secondary drive, my Music folder name changed to (Document) as you can see on the image with the arrow pointed to it.. Now i tried to right click it and in the General tab it shows the name Document greyed with the music symbol out, so i can't change it.
View 1 RepliesI would like to change default folder icon, but don't know how. I think it can be done with regedit, but I need to navigate where and what to change.
View 5 RepliesI'd been using this method on Windows 7: Windows Explorer Taskbar Icon - Change Open To Target And I take it that this is how it's done in 8: File Explorer Taskbar Icon - Change Open To Target. Will the latter tutorial also work here in 10?
View 2 RepliesHow to change the default Downloads folder in Edge in build 10159? I've looked through all the settings, including the Advanced ones, and there's nowhere to change this.
View 9 RepliesIs there a way to change the default folder for downloads in Edge? I don't really want downloads being directed to my C: which is a SSD. I would prefer to change this to my HDD. Internet Explorer allowed this.
Even if it means a manual registry edit
I want 'List', not 'Details'.
I could keep it at 'List' view in Windows 7, but I don't see a setting for that option any more?
Also, I downloaded a program called Explorer Plus Plus, which I love. Is there any way in Windows 10 to make IT my default Folder opener?
I made a screenrecord for your understanding.
View 9 RepliesI can't believe how basic the photo app still is. You still don't even have a folder view. It is damn slow and constantly crashes and doesn't show all pictures. we are one week away from launch of Win 10 and Microsoft still delivers this crappy piece of software. It's unbelievable! What have they done in all the last months?! There was hardly any progress at all! Don't they have enough man-power for this? Even a one-man app-developer should get a better photo app within 2 months!
View 5 RepliesIs there a way to customize Windows 10 folder view? I do a lot of photo editing and I want to find a way to preview the folder's photo collection in a bigger size than the ''extra large icons'' that I find too small. Is there a way to do it with Windows 10, or is there a 3rd party software I can use ?
View 1 RepliesI want to set all my folder views to List and have set it to be so from folder options several times but it keeps reverting to Details.
And either way is there a master setting somewhere (like default programs) where I can change this?
I don't know why or when but suddenly Windows became unable to save wherever change I made to a folder. Since Win7 I despise this "new" system in which, if you want to make a folder organize it's elements by Modification Time, you must do it in every single folder and if you have a lot, that becomes really annoying. Now, the thing is that I have My Videos folder organize by Modification Time, so I go, right click, view options, more columns..., I pick it and then I do it.
But when I reload the folder it doesn't save any of what I just did. It goes back to default which is organize by Name. Also, I have it set to Very Large Icons, that doesn't either. I tried resetting them to default, I tried running sfc/scannow and it did repair something but didn't solve my issue. I'm on the edge of reformatting. I can't stand this.
I am currently having an issue with icons not displaying on Windows 10, I also cannot change the folder layout as it is grayed out as you will see in the snip it below.
For some reason Adobe PDF icons still display but all the others are just folder icons or the generic gray page icon.
I have a new HP laptop which has a new Windows 10 image on it. I was able to set up my Microsoft account on it, so I can log-in with it, but if I go to SETTINGS | ACCOUNTS | YOUR EMAIL AND ACCOUNTS, nothing ever shows - the animated graphic at the top (flying dots) continues forever and nothing is ever displayed.
My login id has admin rights, so I don't think it's not a permissions issue. Why I can't see/change the account information??
So I bit the bullet and "upgraded" my laptop from Windows 7 to 10. I expected to find a few things that didn't work anymore, but not so soon as this. I keep it in sync with my desktop PC (running XP) by net-sharing its hard drive, with permission for full control granted to its "administrators" group. I mount it on my desktop PC, where I have the same username and password for my primary administrator account. When it ran Windows 7 this all worked well, but now whenever I try to list or open its files I get "Access is denied."
Interestingly, I still can access the hard drive on my desktop PC while sitting at my laptop. It is only the vice-versa that fails, accessing the hard drive on my laptop PC while sitting at my desktop.
On my laptop, Windows Firewall is "off" for private networks, and it considers my home network to be "private."
If one opens a multi-page article in Edge Reading View, how to get beyond page #1?? How or where does one change, turn pages?? I'll be darned if I have been able to find a way.. Must be there somewhere..
View 2 Replies2 out of the 3 computers at work I have installed Windows 10 Pro on, have an issue of when I reboot the computer, the desktop icons, that were arranged in a certain way, have now all moved to the very left of the desktop. I am running Classic Shell on the machines and so get a desktop view immediately when booting. It's annoying. Windows 8.1 does not do this.
My work computer has both XP and Windows 10 PRO on it as a dual boot. It had a Windows 10 preview edition on it since back in April or May. Then when we decided to move into Windows 10, I merely bought a DVD of Win 10 Pro and when running in that preview OS on the one partition I installed the DVD and did and upgrade. Works fine, but every once in a while I see the explorer view of folders and when I close the folder {X} it magically appears again and click the X again to close it.
For the time I installed a program called DesktopOK ver 4.16 on the one computer and seems to be holding it's own so far (no moving icons back over to the extreme left.
For some reason, my picture folder is in "Quick Access" pinned. When I go into the properties of the Photos folder that is pinned in "Quick Access", I look at the locations tab and it says it's in my User Folder. Though it does not appear inside of the User Folder, whereas Documents, Music, Downloads, and Videos folders are. I've unchecked "Hidden Items" and it's still not there. Now, if I type in the directory manually it opens as if it's there. On the left pane in the Windows Explorer where "This PC" is at, I have two Documents. One has the regular icon, the other has a picture icon. When I click on either of them, they take me to the Documents folder.
As you can see below somewhat of my predicament. How to get my pictures folder back to normal in "This PC" and my User Folder.
I have just realized my Documents folder icon inside the User Folder has the "One Drive" icon. I am not sure as to why that is as I've disabled One Drive completely on my computer. Extremely frustrating.
I deleted the "Documents" folder that has the Pictures folder icon and it deleted my actual Documents folder as well.
Why the default for most folders and subfolders is the Icon view and why its so hard change that view to something else permanently?
For instance My Pictures, you can right click My Pictures / customize / "optimize this folder for general items" which will change the view to Details, but only temporarily. This also applies to the Desktop. You can create a folder on your desktop, inside create a sub-folder and put some files inside that. You'll notice the default view for the sub-folder will always be the Icon view. Now anyone that's on computers a lot will know that the Icon view when dealing with a lot of files is just a big jumbled mess, I always use the Detailed view, for everything.
It also seems to me they never stay the same. I'll go to My Documents one day and it will be randomly changed back to the Icon view, I can't be the only person who has noticed this. And why there no master setting to set all the folders on your computer to one view, permanently.
When I try to open a folder in Windows Explorer, it opens the "Documents" Folder by default. I have to choose "Open" or "Open in New Window" to get it right. If I select "Open Windows Explorer" or double click on the folder, my Documents folder opens. I have reset every setting I can think of to default settings. I installed IoBit Advanced System Care9 Pro and was fiddling with a bunch of settings before this occurred.
View 6 RepliesI would like most of my folders to open with Details for the view. Then when I want it differently I can change it. It seems like every time I open a new folder or one that has not yet been opened within 10 they all are large icons which provide little information.
Is there a way to set a one time default for all folders? Also is there a way set a default for a folder tree?
I have screwed up my default open folder with.. it all started by trying to set the default console to powershell, I have been messing around with registry settings but in the end I failed to set it up.. then I went and double clicked a folder to open it and discovered that the default double click option was "open with visual code", that is when I started to dig around in registry again.. and removed visual code from being the default but somehow ended up screwing even more my default open, I can now only open my folders by right clicking on them and open in a new window..
if I double click them I get the following error message "windows cannot access the specified device path or file you may not have appropriate permissions"
I seem to have a problem trying to save file to my default Docs, vid and Pics folder on my C drive. I have attached a pic of what it says.I have changed the permissions to let me do this or am I looking in the wrong place? If I save the files to the desktop however and then move to the relevant folder it works fine.
