I've tried registry edits, tiny apps, but nothing seems to work.I'd really like the default .txt file icon back, but I use Sublime Text 3 to open them by default, and thus this app's icon takes over all my .txt file icons.How can I make W10 revert to the original extension's icon while it's default app is another program?

View 2 RepliesFor instance, if I highlight a word in a text-entry field, it's a very bright blue. This is also true in Firefox, Thunderbird, Word, OneNote, various fora, etc. but not in Excel.
Prior to installing Windows 10, the highlight in a text-entry field was either pale grey (on dark backgrounds) or darker grey (on light backgrounds), which is what I'd like to have back.
Last night I bit the bullet again & upgraded to windows 10 & then did a clean install. I have noticed that the network icon in the system tray shows a yellow triangle & says no access but I can surf fine with chrome & use qbitorrent etc.
The only way I can get rid of the yellow triangle is to disable the network adapter & then re enable it.
Not using any third party firewall as private fireall doesn't support windows 10.
For some reason MS in their inane wisdom decided to remove the function of being able to set custom title bar text colors and such like windows 7 and below had, Is there someway to get this back? even if its a 3rd party app it is ok. I mean when I ugpraded from win 7 to win 10 it kept my old settings for those things, so the functionality should still be there, they just removed the control panel that let you edit it. This has the menu I am talking about scroll down a bit: Customize the Title Bar and Other System Fonts in Windows 7 Its the windows color and apperance panel I am talking about.
Anyway is there someway 3rd party or otherwise to get this menu back? or something that lets you edit the same things?
I increased the size of my desktop icon and everything else to 500 %. The icons are now so big that I dont even see my task bar items. I have tried to reduce the size again but not able to do so because I cannot see all the buttons I need. How can I reduce the size
View 2 RepliesI guess I should have come here first but I searched the internet on how to fix this aggravation. It seems the accepted way is to go into the Control Panel, System, Advanced System Settings and uncheck the box for Use drop shadows for Icon labels on the Desktop. Been there, did that, rebooted, and absolutely nothing changed.
I went back to the same place and turned off the other two references to shadows, rebooted, and again, no effect anywhere that I could see.
Why making a double image of text would seem like a good idea. All it does for me is make it damn near impossible to read.
I am trying to disable the text popup that is shown when you hover over the search icon on the task bar. This is affecting me actually using the search function. When I am about to click the icon this text "Search the web and windows" pops up and makes it so you cannot click the search.

View 9 RepliesPhoto editing program. My criteria is a relatively easy to use program to add text, change colors or to make banners and posters for our club. Not interested in fancy makeovers. PSP and their help desk and manual is not that easy to use, and Gimp (have not used it much) seems like it would be too complex for my needs. Leaning towards Photoshop Elements because an acquaintance uses the full Photoshop (am told PS and the more limited PE use the same functions for what they can do) and may give me a few tips now and then. A friend also uses Elements. Some reviews recommended Lightroom over Elements.

When I change this, it wants me to logout.
I generally want to change the size of text to get a better view/perspective on the app that I'm running. But, this thing always forces me to exit all my apps -- very inconvenient!
Is there a way to change titlebar text color? like for active and inactive title bars? I mean I really do not understand at all why they removed all these customization options in windows 10, that even windows 95, 98, xp, me, vista, 7 and I think 8 had.

I searched and found this tutorial that tells you to modify a value in the registry, but that didn't do a thing. Is there a way to change this or is it stuck this way now?

You might not be able to see the text in that image, and it's just barely visible on my desktop. I would like text to be more easily readable.

Did that ok. I uninstalled the KB3035583...that went ok but the windows icon keeps coming back on my taskbar. When a update appears to be downloaded. how do I check the number of it first to see what it is. I think I might of let it go through last night when

Is it possible to change the color of text on the Taskbar buttons? It is unreadable as black text on a very dark background.

I accidentally deleted the default folder icon that comes standard with Windows 10 home. Well, I didn't delete it, I hit the "Unpin from taskbar".
Where do these icons go when you unpin them? And how can I get it back?
I know I can replace it with File Explorer, but I like the files that are displayed with the standard folder icon.
Slip of the keyboard. I unpinned the folder icon that comes standard with Win 10 on the taskbar. I replaced it with File Explorer but it's not the same format. The folder icon that comes with Win 10 on the taskbar brings up the Libraries on the left, then the right side, I think, had folder and file listings. Don't remember - I did this about a month ago.
View 4 Repliesafter an update at starting, tablet laptop start gives picture/clock screen, that slides to the password screen but when password block is touched on screen or mouse clicked the screen flips back to the picture/clock ... how to deal with this kind of lock out that the typing box won't open and loops to clock screen? have turned off for an hour to see if that does it..but if not...would restarting into a repair or recovery be possible fix...i have never been able to get into safe mode without being logged in but have gotten into recovery during a restart which made me wonder if entering a recovery during boot and reversing the upgrade was possible if all else fails...
View 1 RepliesWindows 10 always keeps putting back the drop shadow for the label under the desktop icons. I go into System -> Advanced System Settings -> Performance and uncheck "Use drop shadows for icon labels on the desktop". Click apply. If I do this at after logging off the shadows disappear. However at some random point in time a few minutes after it just puts them back on.
