Feb 23, 2016The advice given (to go to "personalization" and turn "show color on Start, Task bar, action center and title bar" to "on" and pick a color) does not change the background color of the task bar, which remains black regardless of this setting. how can you change the background color of the task bar from black to something that will actually contrast with the icons? Black is a terrible color; some of the icons are barely visible with that setting.

Aug 2, 2015what I see about Windows 10 so far, but one thing that does bother me is the vibrancy of the colors of the start menu and task bar. I would prefer a more pastel color theme, but so far I haven't been able to find how to do that. I've tried following the second half of this guide (basically, just run "rundll32.exe shell32.dll,Control_RunDLL desk.cpl,Advanced,@Advanced") to get to the old style "Show color mixer" menu. And that menu does in fact have sliders for "color intensity" or "saturation." The problem is, adjusting those sliders doesn't seem to actually change anything.
So is it possible with Windows 10 to actually change this color option?

Jan 29, 2015Build 9926 and using the default Start Menu.
To change the default Color of the Start Menu & Taskbar go to Control Panel > All Control Panel Items > Personalization > Color And Appearance then select Show Color Mixer. These 3 sliders will modify the solid color chosen above that also modifies the color of the Start Menu & Taskbar.
The Color Intensity slider only modifies the color of the window borders.

Color Intensity & Color Mixer functions (Sliders) have been depreciated and no longer have any effect of altering a chosen color for builds newer than 10130.

Aug 10, 2015A friend of mine who recently upgraded to Windows 10 is legally blind and is struggling with some accessibility options. Here is what we are struggling with: We need to change the font color of desktop icons to black. Certain contrasts are more visible for some impairments and in this case, a yellow background with black bold icon text is the best condition.
What I've tried : Tried high contrast theme / modeTried to modify regedit based on a suggestion for 8.1 here.
Where I've looked : Control Panel - System - Advanced System Settings - Advanced - PerformancePersonalize - Change Desktop IconsPersonalize - ColorsControl Panel - PersonalizationDisplay SettingsThemes - Theme Settings
I was able to get the text black when using the white high contrast mode, but that option won't work. While it does change the icon text to black, it also takes over many other options that deliver a less than desirable contrast for the user. We originally were thinking we could start with the high contrast theme, save as another theme and then systematically roll back the changes we didn't like, leaving the black text. Does not work - when in high contrast mode it effectively locks out your ability to make certain changes.

Aug 1, 2015Navigating to Settings > Personalization > Themes > Theme Settings, we get to the Personalization window for Themes same as on Win 7. In the window it states "Click a theme to change the desktop background, color, and sounds all at once."
However, the icons normally at the bottom of the window to change those settings are missing. All I can do is save the theme (right click).

Feb 10, 2016I have recently done an update. Now, my computer turns on fine. However the only taskbar icons I have from the extreme left is the windows 'start' image, then the cortana circle then the taskview rectangle.
From the extreme right I have the usual show desktop sliver, then a blank gap of around an inch where wifi / volume / clock should be then a rectangular speech bubble 'No new notifications' then the up arrow - which only shows a single grey square 'ELAN pointing device'.
That's it. There were several quick icons there prior. Edge, MFF, folders, ASUS update, Chrome etc. All gone.
Also, I can't actually access anything from the start window icon. Clicking it does nothing. When I hover / click it it turns red, but that's it.
All my usual desktop icons are there. I can use them but can't minimise anything. If I do minimise anything it vanishes. I can open it again via the task manager as they are still running but that's it.
The ONLY way to shut down my computer is to go to the ctrl + alt + del to the red screen and use the icons in the bottom right hand corner. I can sometimes right click on the start windows icon and it will pop up a black menu and one of the options is power / sleep / shutdown etc.

Aug 27, 2015Just upgraded to windows 10 and on 7 I was using Ultramon, a super awesome multi-monitor program. Needless to say, ultramon doesn't work on 10 but 10 has some pretty great multi-monitor functionality already.
I've got two monitors and I have taskbar shown on both and buttons are set to show on taskbar where the window is open. What I'm trying to do is hide the Start Menu, Cortana search, and task view buttons on the non-primary monitor taskbar.
Also, I'm wondering if it's possible to change the Windows keyboard shortcuts? Trying to change the shortcut for switching between desktops to something other than Ctrl + Win + (Left/Right)

Sep 25, 2015I was using my laptop at school, when my trackpad starts to glitch out, wherever I moved it it kept clicking and in the process did something to my taskbar; I had my desktop Icons showing on the taskbar (the desktop checkbox ticked in the 'toolbars' tab of the taskbar settings), and they were square Icons that were under my taskbar Icons, but then, after I ctrl+alt+del to stop the glitchy clicking, I went back and now my taskbar looks like this: [URL] ... the 'Desktop' Icons used to have alot more and they were square and slightly bigger than the taskbar icons.

Aug 26, 2015I have successfully installed Windows 10 ("final') on three devices: One venerable notebook, one "media" desktop computer (in my living room) and my main desktop computer in my home office.
Unfortunately, I have encountered a strange phenomenon on my main work computer. I have set the taskbar icons to "large" and they are a "bearable" size. However, the desktop icons (which I don't display on the desktop) in the taskbar are TINY (!) - and I can't find any way to make them larger.
What make this strange is that there is NO disparity between the size of the App and desktop icons on the desktops of the other two machines. Am I missing a setting, or is this a "glitch"? Is there a workaround? It is really NOT acceptable - a "step backward" form Windows 7, in my opinion.
Icons Are Missing From Desktop - Taskbar And Explorer
Sep 17, 2015It's been a few days now since icons aren't showing everywhere including Desktop (really bugs me, this one), Taskbar (Not actually disappeared, but deformed), and File Explorer. I did things like calling Task Manager up and end the process of explorer.exe and run it again, no luck. I restarted Windows, yielded no results. I also tried turning the machine off and on again, to no avail.
Here are some screenshots regarding the problem I am facing.
While Desktop and Explorer are not working as well as they should, Start Menu and Tablet Mode appear to be quite fine by themselves.
My machine is running Windows 10 Home Edition, not Insider Preview. I don't know how to find the version/build numbers, but I'm positive it's the latest build available since I just checked Windows Update.
