View 2 RepliesI spend most of my time in Linux && am just recently becoming a regular user of windows 10. The Problem: I like OR would like to use the pinned shortcuts accessed on my taskbars folder icon by right-clicking. The pictures, music, videos, and recorded tv work as expected. The Downloads and Documents return a message, 'the item you selected is unavailable etcetera etcetera' I would like to use them. Here are some images to explain.
The only oddity if there is one is I run 2ssd's and 1hdd. One Arch Linux, one Windows 10, and a 4tb storage drive that contains the account folders for windows 10 (Documents, Videos, etc). All works well except shortcutting to open the Downloads && Documents folders from the taskbar the others respond as expected. If you can see in the above images the paths shown are correct mappings to targets.
I have a large number of research articles on my laptop (via dropbox). One thing I loved about Windows 7 was that I could just hit the Start button, type a keyword into the search box and a results window would pop up that listed every matching document on my computer. I was also able to customize this so that it always came up in "Details" view.
I can't seem to get that same thing with Windows 10. When I type something into the search field on the task bar, I have to first select that I want it to search my stuff and not the web. After I do that it will only bring up a limited amount of results. I have to click again to see the whole set of hits--and then if I hit "Folder Explorer" at the bottom of the menu, it brings up the results in "Tile" view.
First, I can't figure out how to set the Folder Explorer default view to "Details".
Also, is there a way I search directly into Folder Explorer via the task bar search box?
Next, I don't mind that the taskbar offers me the option of websearch
I have a problem opening folders that i pinned down in the taskbar.
When I click a folder nothing happens (with the exception of "this PC"/"Your PC", in which case it actually opens what it should open)
This problem is limited to Windows Explorer, pinned items for Chrome, Steam and Mozilla Thunderbird work just fine.
I'd like to change the icon of these icons, but I found no obvious way.

View 4 RepliesI recently upgraded my Hard Drive with an Samsung SSD Drive evo 850 for my operating system and programs. I placed the secondary drive to host my file folders. Somehow in the mist of trying to automatically port my default Document, Downloads, Pictures,Videos and Music Folder to the secondary drive, my Music folder name changed to (Document) as you can see on the image with the arrow pointed to it.. Now i tried to right click it and in the General tab it shows the name Document greyed with the music symbol out, so i can't change it.

Ran sfc/scannow 4 times, scanned with Norton Security and Malwarebytes and searched in vain on the web. I called Microsoft and they did a remote connection and Would not research the problem because it works in IE and would not persue the issue further in Firefox and Chrome.

Build 9926 and using the default Start Menu.
To change the default Color of the Start Menu & Taskbar go to Control Panel > All Control Panel Items > Personalization > Color And Appearance then select Show Color Mixer. These 3 sliders will modify the solid color chosen above that also modifies the color of the Start Menu & Taskbar.
The Color Intensity slider only modifies the color of the window borders.

Color Intensity & Color Mixer functions (Sliders) have been depreciated and no longer have any effect of altering a chosen color for builds newer than 10130.
Its possible to customize one or more folders to a specific file view like "list" or "details" for example? Whenever I close the folder or go back to the previous folder the default system sets back default view which was adopted by the system or the view that was defined by me for all the folders in: Folder Options -> View -> Apply to Folders.

View 5 RepliesI updated my tablet from win 8.1 to win 10. I pinned the store app to my taskbar and is was there for a while, but then disappeared. When you point the mouse to where the icon should be, the app is there and will open, but you see no icon. This also happens for the netflix icon and the shazam icon. All other icons are okay. I honestly am not sure if this started before the upgrade, I think it did, but not positive. I have tried to unpin and repin them, but the same thing happens.
View 2 RepliesDid the Win 10 update last night. Now I can't run my pinned Excel files ("The item you selected is unavailable. It might have been moved, renamed, or removed. Do you want to remove it from the list?") But when I say Yes, it's not removed. If I click the icon for "Unpin from this list" it is also not removed. If I right click the item on the Pinned list and click "Unpin from this list" it is not removed. If I drag the file from its folder down to the icon ("Pin to Microsoft Excel") nothing changes.
The update apparently changed the locations of all the pinned files from my nonstandard location (D:DropboxCurrent where D is my Data drive) to elsewhere (C:UsersDaveDocumentsDropboxCurrent, which location does not exist). I can't figure out how to change this. The pinned list seems to be somehow locked so I can't change it, and this is the essence of the problem.
I've read many posts about hidden icons or icons showing wrong images etc, but my problem seem to be different from others.
When I log on after a reboot, I only see the search icon and the Task View icon in the task bar even though I have several other programs pinned.
If I open a pinned program I see it in the task bar and have the option to unpin the r-click menu, but if I close it, the icon disappears again.
If I open a program that is not pinned, and I r-click and pin the program, the task bar seems to 'refresh' and suddenly I see all my pinned programs in the task bar - and they all work when clicking on them.
How I can make the task bar show the pinned programs without having to pin a new program after every reboot?
I have recently upgraded from Windows 8.1 Pro to Windows 10 Pro and everything was fine then. But recently I am experiencing an issue which is "Pinned items and Jump List are not displayed in File Explorer in both Taskbar and Start Menu". Pinned items and Jump Lists are displayed for other programs in Taskbar as usual but the issue is only with File Explorer. I have restarted the PC but still the problem persists and I have also disabled Cortana.

As the title said, how do I hide (not remove) pinned and running programs on taskbar?
And appears when I hover on start button?
I just want my desktop a bit cleaner but easy to access my favorite programs.

View 1 RepliesMost of my pinned task bar icons that I have added are all simplified tiles with the first letter of the corresponding website.
ie: Gmail is " G", American Airlines is " A", Flyertalk is " F". Google is " G" (causing confusion with Gmail.), etc.
Is there any way to change these tiled icons to the website logo like in windows 8.1 or 7?
So File Explorer Quick Access shows Recent Folders, because I pinned it to be there:
But, when you go to "Save as" dialog box, Recent Folders inexplicably disappears from Quick Access:
Why is that? How can I fix it so that "Save as" and "Open" show Recent Folders in Quick Access in navigation pane?
