Change Folder Name And Can't Open It
Sep 17, 2015
I change the name of one folder, from this moment I can't open the folder. I reciver the announcement with the path and that "the folder is not accessible. Access is denided."If i clik right click > properties, I see 0 bytes inside, but I know that there are a lot of files inside. In the security tab there is " You must have read permission to view the properties. Click Advanced to continue" but when I click Advanced, there is no possibility to change anything..No matter what i click, the message appears again..I tryed to take ownership but nothing..

I just upgrade windows 10 from windows 7 and I'm customizing some default folder to match my settings in my windows 7. I got a little problem and it's really annoying me. Here is the screenshot of my This PC
as you can see, I change the windows default folder for downloads to drive F:. How can I make it to show the drive name instead of drive letter? I used the same steps I do in windows 7 and it was working, but in windows 10, it change the download folder to drive letter.

The folders in All Apps seem to be named for the software company, not by the program name (for example, its Digiarty, not WinX DVD Copy). Is there a way to change this name?

I recently upgraded my Hard Drive with an Samsung SSD Drive evo 850 for my operating system and programs. I placed the secondary drive to host my file folders. Somehow in the mist of trying to automatically port my default Document, Downloads, Pictures,Videos and Music Folder to the secondary drive, my Music folder name changed to (Document) as you can see on the image with the arrow pointed to it.. Now i tried to right click it and in the General tab it shows the name Document greyed with the music symbol out, so i can't change it.

Can a file folder open it it's own window all by itself without any of the drive's other folder structure showing?
I have certain folders I must refer to frequently and I'd like to create a shortcut which would pop one open in a new window without having to wade through the whole drive's folder structure. This was normal on my last pc running XP but I can't seem to duplicate in Win10.

I have screwed up my default open folder with.. it all started by trying to set the default console to powershell, I have been messing around with registry settings but in the end I failed to set it up.. then I went and double clicked a folder to open it and discovered that the default double click option was "open with visual code", that is when I started to dig around in registry again.. and removed visual code from being the default but somehow ended up screwing even more my default open, I can now only open my folders by right clicking on them and open in a new window..
if I double click them I get the following error message "windows cannot access the specified device path or file you may not have appropriate permissions"

How do I get File Explorer to open in the last used folder? NOT quick access, just in the normal list of directories. (file folders).. I hate 'quick access', it slows everything down so much and makes all other folders invisible - I just want the normal file list visible and file explorer to open in the same folder as I was using before, in that list. Is this at all possible?

When I double click to open a folder I get an extra pane on the right side that is useless to me and takes up real-estate.
How to I change the view options to eliminate that extra pane.
Attached are 2 images - one showing the extra pane, and the other showing how I'd like my folder views displayed.

I just found the game recorder built in to Windows 10 and was trying to use it but am having trouble changing where the games are saved. When I go to the folder I want the recordings saved in there is no OK button or any way to say this is where I want them saved. If I exit out on the folder it just goes back to the original destination.

I created a new folder on the desktop and I can't change its icon to a one I downloaded. selecting the icon from the stock list (shell32.dll) works fine though. I tried with another folder in different location, still no luck. however, when I created a shortcut to the folder I placed on the desktop, I can change its icon to the custom one just fine. I just wanna have a folder with a blank icon.
edit: I fixed the issue. turns out Windows didn't like the fact that there was an "ą" letter in the icon path.

I was wondering if I could redirect my documents, music and movies folder to a hard drive due to low space on my SSD, But my concern is, will it effect my programs such as Adobe, AutoDesk and other programs currently storing files in this folder? Or will they automatically look point to the hard drive after i redirect the folders to a new location.

I just bought a 500gb samsung 850 evo, transferred C, and am trying to use the old 1tb WD for mass storage.
I decided I'd put my videos and pictures there, so I changed the locations to inside folders in E... now instead of saying "Videos" and "Pictures" it says E: and E:, and when you click them it just takes you to directly to the drive, not inside the folder.
Now when I go to change it back to default location I get "The folder can't be moved here, access denied"
how to fix it.

I have a new install of Windows 10 and I created a separate partition to keep my data files on so I don't lose them when/if I do a fresh windows install. So I redirected the MyDocuments, Pictures etc folders from the system partition to the data partition. What I would like to do now is restrict access to those folders so that only the log in that they belong to can access them.

Whenever I open a folder and position it on desktop whereI want it to be, after closing and reopening it again, it repositions. With a few opening-closings I realized that every time I open the folder anew, it gets repositioned a bit lower, diagonally. This wasn't happening on Windows 8.1. Is there any way to keep the folder in the same position every time I open it?
