So yesterday I installed 10 on the laptop. It appears to work very well, even though it seems, and is, intrusive (privacy concerns) and for me a long learning curve to figure out how all the new 'apps' (old redesigned programs and UI) work.
Here's the problem:
I have read through this tutorial (plus many other posts and articles): [URL]
I want/need to change the timing of the background pictures/theme and the colors of the window from the stock (forced upon me) settings, but the display does NOT show the controls in the bottom of the personalization area as they are shown in that tutorial (They were there in W7 and Vista, and in the tutorial above made in March).
I have tried different resolutions (none smaller available, currently at 1366x768, native), and only two font/display/text sizes I could find of 100% and 125%: The needed controls still don't show up.
The laptop is an ASUS G50VT - 5. Stock except for a 500GB Hybrid drive.
I would like to select which pictures from a theme I would like to use for my background. To be more specific, I want to disable a few pictures. This used to be possible in Win 7/Win 8.1 by going to the Theme settings (in win 10: Personalize/Themes/Theme Settings), and clicking an icon called Desktop Background on the bottom of the page.
Navigating to Settings > Personalization > Themes > Theme Settings, we get to the Personalization window for Themes same as on Win 7. In the window it states "Click a theme to change the desktop background, color, and sounds all at once."
However, the icons normally at the bottom of the window to change those settings are missing. All I can do is save the theme (right click).
I am unable to change the theme color from an icky blue. I can change the desktop, I can enable and disable the color on the Start, taskbar, etc., I can make them transparent. I cannot change the color. If I attempt to click a different accent color, nothing happens. No color change on the preview. No color change anywhere. Just icky blue.
I've made sure that the Theme service is running and I've tried installing themes online. Nothing I'm doing is getting this color to change and it's really buggin' me out.
It could have to do with this being an Origin laptop. It was originally Windows 8 when I got it wherein, as an Origin PC, it had a default-installed Origin theme where the accent colors were red and black. I was able to change the desktop background while it was in '8, but I was unable to ever change the accent from red.
Now that I have Windows 10, I am not using the Origin-installed theme and my accent is not locked in red but is instead locked in blue..
I've not yet attempted a hard refresh of Windows 10, especially seeing as the refresh USB will simply install Win8 again with the Origin-brand-lock, so upgrading to '10 would only be extra time and stress for an issue that is going to happen in '8 and be brought forward again.
Is there a way to force the color scheme to change?
I am running Windows 10 Home on an Origin PC. 16GB RAM; CPU i7 @ 2.8Ghz; I am indeed the administrator.
As title says, how do I change the settings in a Theme, desktop picture seems to change every 15 minutes, can I change this in the settings somewhere so it changes every 5 minutes or is it just through the registry like in Windows 7 ?
In W-7, I could go to the "Change the visuals and sounds on your computer" and click the "Desktop Background" Slide Show. once there, I could check or uncheck the pictures I wanted.
In W-10, when I click "Desktop Background", I get the "Background" "Preview" window. There's no handy access to the pictures in the selected screen.
The "Chose albums.....", DesktopBackground", Browse would probably get me to where the actual pictures are if I knew where they are. It use to be very simple.
I can't find the lower panel in the Personalization view. The one where I can select or deselect pictures in a saved theme. I see it on my work desktop running Pro but not on a Home machine.
When I lock my new Windows 10 home edition 64bit laptop it remains on the Sky/red plane wing, I don't even have the 'love/hate this photo' option, So far I have set Bing as default search engine, cleared out the folder where the spotlight photos are stored, changed the setting to picture then back to spotlight.
I have several computers and want different desktop background pictures for each. Never been a problem until I upgraded one computer to Windows 10. Now, Windows keeps changing the wallpaper so all my computers have the same desktop background picture.
I have installed Win 10 from scratch (no update). I have 3 monitors. I have created a theme with a different background image on each monitor. After a random time, the three images are suddenly mixed up, image 1 appears on monitor 2 or three, etc. When I click on another theme and then on my own theme, the images are restored to the correct monitor.
My PC is part of a domain. Some buttons on the themes page that I had in win 8.1 are now gone, so I am unable to select things like slideshow etc. In fact, beneath the window with the themes, I have no buttons at all.
Some settings in the registry that I can use in order to prohibit the changing of the backgrounds? I tried Group Policy but that didn't work out.
I have moved from FreeBSD to Win 10. The glaring white of the aforementioned objects is really painful to my old eyes. I cannot find references on Google about how to change this. I found one post that alleges this obnoxious color was hard coded. My desired colors for the background is (RGB) 235.235.235.
How can I enable full user control without getting a ton of "failed to enumerate" errors after clicking apply? Can't even install printer software to Program Files.
I changed the settings on 'netplwiz', and made the account 'Homegroupuser$' an administrator, and removed the administrator privileges for the account i use. now i cant access any administrative settings.
Windows kept asking me for the password upon startup and would not recognize the password I input each time. So I would have to reset it. I went to the forum and read how to shut the password feature off by holding the windows key + r , typing the letters provided and unchecking the box. The system then asked me to restart. My laptop will not restart - blue/black screen appears and nothing else.
I have looked in the Settings personalize Tab and can not locate the time tab for setting interval for picture changing? any other location it may be located in?
This issue happened after I upgraded to Windows 10 from Windows 7 on my HP computer. We also have another older Dell computer, on which this issue did not occur after upgrading to Windows 10 from Windows 7. I followed advise from an IT technician provided about this issue with Windows 8.1 including editing the registry (Internet Settings and Default Connection Settings) and have no trouble accessing the internet. However, typically after every day or every other day (at most after three days) turning my computer on after being off overnight, the internet connection settings revert back from automatically detect settings to proxy server.
I do not use a proxy server and cannot access the internet when this occurs. This keeps happening even though I go back and reedit the register. What can be done to permanently fix this problem? I am currently using Internet Explorer 11 instead of Edge until Microsoft comes out with their update in early November that allows extensions. I use Norton 360 and cannot use this program with Edge until extensions are allowed, because of security on the internet.
Since this does not happen with the Dell computer, I checked the settings mentioned by the IT Technician and found that the following Internet Settings were not present in the registry: ProxyHttp.1 (or ProxyHttp1_1) and ProxyServer. Will it harm my HP computer if I delete these two from the registry so that the Internet Settings will be the same as those on the Dell computer, which as pointed out above does not have this problem? Also, for ProxyServer the IT technician indicated that there should be no value for this in the registry.
one of the pc's with Windows 10 on, when opening settings has a gray background instead of white and it seems i cannot alter this. change this background?
I like all the synchronization Windows 10 introduced, except for two things:
1. hide or unhide start menu. On some PCs it should be hidden, on some it shouldn't. But sync causes all PCs to have the same settings for this.
2. background! I get 'corrupted' background images if one of my PCs changes desktop and I log into another one. Reason? Different resolutions on the displays used. The original resolution is replicated; missing space is filled up with bars of parts of the original image
So... Is there a way I can keep everything synced as-is, except for these two options?
In Windows 10, in Personalization > Background, I have red text that says, Some settings are managed by your organization, and all desktop background features are greyed out and inaccessible. What does this mean and how do I get the desktop background function back?
Please note: All other Personalization options are accessible, including: Colors, Lock screen, Themes (although they do not work once I go into them), and Start.
All I have for a desktop background, is the last wallpaper I used, which is now permanently locked as my desktop background.
So I have been trying to get into the personalize and display settings by right clicking on my desktop. This is the error I get.
This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Please install a program or, if one is already installed, create an association in the Default Programs control panel.
I am also not able to get into settings by click the Start and Settings link. Nothing happens. what to do....
