View 7 RepliesI want to move pictures I have taken with my Windows 10 Tablet to an external usb. I can copy them one at a time, but I would like to be able to select several picture by hitting the ctrl key or the shift key, but when I bring up the on screen keyboard, that does not work. Is there a solution for tablets?
View 5 RepliesI have installed Win 10 from scratch (no update). I have 3 monitors. I have created a theme with a different background image on each monitor. After a random time, the three images are suddenly mixed up, image 1 appears on monitor 2 or three, etc. When I click on another theme and then on my own theme, the images are restored to the correct monitor.
My PC is part of a domain. Some buttons on the themes page that I had in win 8.1 are now gone, so I am unable to select things like slideshow etc. In fact, beneath the window with the themes, I have no buttons at all.
Some settings in the registry that I can use in order to prohibit the changing of the backgrounds? I tried Group Policy but that didn't work out.
I have set up a company on Onedrive for business. I was wondering how can I remove standard Onedrive from the left panel in file explorer as some of the users are getting confused with two different options of Onedrive.
View 3 RepliesEver since downloading Windows 10, I have been unable to upload PDFs to a couple of different websites, namely dropbox and an online file converter (smallpdf.com). It either says there was an error or says its uploading but never does after a long time (hours). I have also been having similar issues uploading .PNG files to facebook messenger as well, I assume the issue is related to that of the PDFs. I've already tried resetting my web browser (Firefox), re-downloading the files, re-starting my computer and uploading files from different file locations. The issue persists when on different wifi networks.
View 1 RepliesI'm using File History to backup my files to a external drive. This works fine. However, I would like to save a backup copy of my data on 2 different drives. I can't seem to be able to find a way to add more than 1 target backup drive in the settings. Is it at all possible to add multiple target drives to File History?
View 2 RepliesI have Windows 10 64-bit, I did a clean install on a new build (SSD). I would use the Windows "move" application feature and the default download location option but Microsoft greyed out the option on the final release of Windows and nobody knows when the feature will be back.
So should I change this stuff in regedit, using this method* or what should I do?

I recently bought a PC from my uncle, who had an account. I've been using my own Microsoft account. However, I've ran into many permissions errors, and scattered files as shown below. URL...This is also another error I've encountered. When trying to reset my PC, this happens. URL...(the darker image is what happens. It disallows me to click anything, but I can still use keyboard functions). How can I clean up the files? I always get the "in use" error. I would like to fix this, along with permission errors, without resetting my PC.
View 1 RepliesIn Windows 7 I could specify the start folder for Explorer by entering its path in the Target field of the Properties/Shortcut. This is now not possible as this filed is now grey (= read only) and cannot be modified.
View 2 RepliesThis is in regards to files disappearing and my desktop changing. I downloaded and installed Windows 10 last night but did not do any modifications until this morning. When I started my computer today, I couldn't find my files. I found them in my user profile. So I moved them to the desktop in a new folder. Also, the desktop was not my previous desktop in regards to shortcuts. Which was fine because I added them back.
I then changed the desktop theme to the flower theme. I then went to restart and selected Update and Restart. When the computer rebooted, my desktop them was gone, and now my old shortcuts from 8.1 were on there. AND the file folder I created with all my files is gone.
I have looked in the windows old folder, the new one, did a file search, what happened? I do not have more than one desktop in the virtual desktops.
Should I recover back to 8.1 to get my files or how do I find them? They can't be deleted but somehow hidden on that other desktop.
I've recently updated from windows 7 to 10. I went to set up my dual monitors (I have 1 to my left) for some reason the monitor to my lefts identity is 3 center is Number 2. I can't seem to change this to 1 and 2
Next issue I can open a file and I can see it in my task-bar on the bottom but it won't open up on either monitor (# 2 or 3) It appears to be opened perhaps on a monitor to my right that does not exist (# 1 perhaps) I can slide some files over to my left (#3) and every now and then a file from my task-bar opens on my main monitor.
Since I upgraded to Windows 10; I have noticed that all my older Word documents have been made "Read Only". Despite changing the properties to correct this. Word still loads them as Read Only documents and will not let me make changes. I also noticed; that since the upgrade, despite my account having FULL ADMINISTRATOR rights and permissions, Every action I take to attempt to correct any issues pops up the message that I need administrator rights to complete the action. The problems I experience on my Laptop don't apply to back-ups of the documents on external storage devices. Is there a simple fix for this?
View 3 RepliesI want to block a certain application from any access to the internet, either inbound or outbound, so it will never attempt to upgrade. I went in the Advanced Settings in Windows Firewall but I can only block one-by-one the executable files (EXE) and this application has at least 30. Is there any way to block all EXE files in a specific folder at once?
I want to block all executables from accessing or receiving data from the internet, which is a totally different thing.
Windows 10 has many little problems, her are some with "Shift"!
If I want to let's say select 10 Files in Windows File Manager and click on the first one, press Shift and click on the last one. (I used this method since windows 3.1)
10 files are now selected, if I do this in Windows 3.1 to 7. Windows 10 ignores Shift and the click selects the last file and no other file is highlighted any more, the highlight just jumps to file 10!
I even tried to switch on "Use check boxes to select items", rebooted and nothing had changed. Can not even get check boxes!
In your Forums Tutorials the is a section with File manger shortcuts which states:
Shift with any arrow key:"Select more than one item in a window or on the desktop or select text within a document"
I have moved from FreeBSD to Win 10. The glaring white of the aforementioned objects is really painful to my old eyes. I cannot find references on Google about how to change this. I found one post that alleges this obnoxious color was hard coded. My desired colors for the background is (RGB) 235.235.235.
View 6 RepliesI keep getting blue screens randomly with different messages, including KERNEL_INPAGE_ERROR, CRITICAL_PROCESS_DIED, and more. It doesn't seem to be associated with any particular app or thing that I do. This morning, I woke up to find that is BSODed in the middle of the night for apparently no reason.
I have tried SFC /SCANNOW (corrupt files can't be fixed), DISM restore_health, reinstalling Windows, check disk... You name it.
When i press Shift+Delete to delete any file, it doesn´t do anything except maybe 10 beeps, its the sound it makes for example when asking for something or some pop-up windows like that. Also when I try this, like at this moment, when writing this in Chrome (which is pretty hard, because of the following things), it does weird things like typing random numbers, deleting the text, skipping the like if I pressed the arrows or enter button, also it was going back in browsing, all by itself. It happens more after when I press Backspace or Delete.
I don´t know what is happening, can´t believe this is a Windows function i don´t know about or if I should be worried about my keyboard or maybe even a virus. (I am not using any downloaded antivirus).
Since Upgrading to Windows 10, I am now experiencing problems accessing many files?
How can I gain access to ALL my files?
Can this be done in one operation, easily, or is it difficult?
I use files with an SCR extension to store text data. For me SCR means script.
I would like it so that when I double-click on this file, that it opens with notepad (or something similar). But this file is registered as a screen saver. And I cannot change the file association.
I have tried "Associate a file type or protocol with a program". I can select NOTEPAD but the "Current application" remains as "Unknown application". And in my folders, the file type remains "Screen saver". So this option does not work.
I have also tried adjusting the registry entry regarding "scr" files. Or removing the registry entry. Neither works. And I also don't get the "right click / open with" option. So how do I change the file association of scr files?
I can't get rid of these files , they are leftovers from deleting backups . How to delete these? The second screenshot is the message I get .....
View 3 RepliesAt work, I'll open files on a network path that is only accessible at work, e.g. mywork.orgsharesfile.xyz
These files will appear in my recent list when opening File Explorer (Win+E). The problem I have is at home where that network path is not accessible, and the File Explorer window will HANG for minutes trying to find the file. I can get around it by running CCleaner and cleaning recent files, but I was wondering if there was something else that could be done where I don't have to wipe out my recent list?
When i click on a file in file explorer after upgrading to Windows 10, it says: Windows cannot find 'C:UsersConnemara GraniteDesktop, How do I fix this?
View 2 RepliesWhen I open my file explorer can I see all the files in there ....
View 1 RepliesI want to delete a folder on my second hdd because i'm cleaning everything up but there are files inside it which have a too long name... I already tried things like trying to delete the folder manually with CMD.exe and a program called Total Commander but it just won't work. It keeps telling me I can't delete it because it has a too long files name. The files inside the folder are AECACHE-files which are from Adobe After Effects. I'm on a 64-bit version of Windows 10 by the way.
View 1 RepliesFile Explorer is not finding some files that are present on my PC with my current settings and I don't know what else to change so that files will be found.
In Folder Options View Tab I have Show hidden files, folders, and drives enabled. In Folder Options Search Tab I only have Include System directories checked.
In C:UsersUserNameAppDataLocalMicrosoftWindowsThemes I have many files whose name contains Arkham.
If I click on This PC in the Navigation Pane and then type Arkham in the search box, I get No items match your search. What do I need to change so that the search will find these files. Ultimately I would like search to find any file on This PC whether it be system, hidden, or read only. I don't need for search to look in compressed archives (just the archive name).
I would like to edit the file type descriptions of a number of file types on my computer. I mean the text that is written in the "File Type" column. For example, after installing Opera browser, all HTML and HTM files have the "File Type" of "Opera Web Document", but I would like to change the File Type for HTML files to "HTML file" and for HTM files to "HTM file".
In Windows 7 I used a utility called Default Programs Editor, but that utility doesn't quite work on Windows 10 anymore. I have some file types here that do not show up in the list of registered file types, which I want to change. For example, I have WSXZ files which are opened by a program called SDL, and the "File Type" according to Windows 10 is "SDL WSXZ Document", but I would like to change that to "WSXZ Forward Package File".
How can I do this? Is there an easy way to do it?
