View 1 Repliesow slow Disk Cleanup has become if you choose 'Clean up system files' and select Windows Update Cleanup after a clean install of Windows 10?
Just the Windows Update Cleanup part is slow - took about 20-25 minutes to get through it today.
Never used to be like that and I'm pretty sure it's something recent. I've done a few clean installs of Threshold 2 since November and it wasn't slow like that until the past week or so (I've done 2 clean installs over the past week and they've both been slow with Windows Update Cleanup).
As I recall. Windows 8 had the same 'bug' and it now seems to have crept into Windows 10 (at least for me).
Just a curiosity of mine - Is there a difference between a clean install and performing an upgrade while keeping only the files? In other words, is this sort of upgrade the same as a clean install, only with the files restored to 'documents', desktop, etc.? Or, does the new windows folder contain remnants of the previous install.
View 1 RepliesSuccessfully upgraded to Windows 10, all applications and settings works perfectly and all previous problems are gone.
I've been facing a collection of annoying problems with my Windows 8.1, specifically setting saving problem, for example can't save settings like default app, folder and icon size, i didn't update to Win10 yet because i am working on very important projects.
My question is, do you think this kind of problems will be fixed after updating to Win10 by keeping all my files, programs, etc... ?Or should i do a clean installation of Win10 so my computer will be "system-new".
I am currently an Windows 7 Professional user, and I was seriously considering to jump to Windows 10.
After upgrading, I was thinking in doing a factory reset, in order to try to mimic a clean install of the system. When exploring the options on Internet, I discovered an option to clean de drives completely.
Currently I have 2 drives, my C unit where the OS and most of my software is, and a D drive, in which I have my music, documents, videos and other files not relevant for the system itself.
If I select the options to clean the drives, will it delete both drives or just the C drive?
I have a new rig and made a clean install with Win 8.1 Pro.
After that I directly upgraded to Win 10 Pro within running system.
Are there any advantages to do now a clean Windows 10 installation?
I just joined, but think that I typed in the wrong email address. Can/how I check my email account?
View 2 RepliesIt stays on "checking for updates" for hours and never advances. I left it overnight and have tried multiple times. No errors, nothing.
View 3 RepliesI have the "Sonic Studio DLA" uninstall issue and have done every trick I can find. One time I hid the Uninstall and continue button and it magically went on to install Windows 10 successfully! However the one issue I had was the bluetooth driver was missing so I went to install one from Toshiba site (Satellite L775) and it caused an error condition so I wanted to back it out but it was 2 am and I was tired so I tried the go to previous build option - expecting it to go to previous restore point of when it was first installed but no - It went back to Windows 7 and I am stuck at "uninstall Sonic Studio DLA" message again. Wife is happy because she wasn't that excited about learning Win 10 but I would prefer to have it upgraded anyway and she balks at the clean install. So I know Windows 10 works and message is not accurate , so how do I bypass it? Will a quiet install or unattended with answers bypass it?

View 1 RepliesTo check whether your download is coming, look for a folder called:
$WINDOWS.~BT
In the root of your C:
If its not there, check there are folders dated with todays date, here:
C:WindowsSoftwareDistributionDownload
Files start here, before being unpacked into the location above.
If those folders don't exist, type this at the command line:
wuauclt.exe /updatenow
(This worked for me, and my download has started)
If you have to hit Windows Update with a hammer, try this:
1.Uninstalled the KB2976978
(In an elevated cmd prompt)
1.net stop wuauserv
2.rd /s /q C:WindowsSoftwareDistribution
3.net start wuauserv
I can't install windows 10 on my desktop, every time I try it hands at 84% .

View 3 RepliesI upgraded my (ageing) Dell Studio XPS laptop from Windows 7 to 10 on day one and have had multiple BSOD issues ever since. They have included:
IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
MEMORY_MANAGEMENT
DRIVER_CORRUPTED_EXPOOL
SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION
...and many more. I have attached the requisite zip file below.
I have conducted the usual Google searches and tried a couple of suggested solutions. Uninstalling Norton 360 seemed to reduce the frequency of the problems; as did deleting an unknown printer that was showing up in Device Manager. But although the crashes are less frequent, the problem clearly still exists.
I would ideally prefer not to have to do a completely clean install, given the volume of data I would need to temporarily shift off my machine.
I used to have a program that checks activation/expiration of windows and/or Microsoft office with just one click. I think the name was "check activation" ...

View 3 RepliesI'm getting a bluescreen when gaming on my new GE62 2QD Apache Pro that I just got recently. The bccode is 0x0000009c and is apparently caused by hal.dll and the bug check exception is MACHINE_CHECK_EXCEPTION according to bluescreen view. Not overclocking and I'm on windows 10.
View 1 RepliesI saw some guides about adjusting Hardware Acceleration on Windows 7 & 8, where you could find a slider bar after going into the Troubleshooting tab under Advanced Screen Resolution settings.
When I access these advanced settings on Windows 10, there's no troubleshooting tab or Hardware Acceleration slider. Where is it?
I'm running an Intel HD 530 for Graphics.
In 2008, I purchased 2 DVD copies of Office Home and Student 2007. This means that I have a total of 6 activation of the program. (Office 2007 and 2010 give you 3 licenses per DVD, while 2013 only gives you 1)
Over the years, I've upgraded computers, hard drives, reformatted, etc. etc. and all I've done to "unregister" Office 2007 from my computer was to simply uninstall it from Control Panel whilst connected to the Internet. I always did this, in hope that I would be unregistering my product key. Upon reinstalltion, I could always reactivate with no problems. (Except for a few times where I've forgotten that one of my DVDs had ran out of the 3 licenses, and that I had to use the other one to activate).
However, now, I'm curious if there's a way to check how many activation I've used, and also, if there's a way to "clear" all 3 activation on both DVDs in order to "start fresh". How to do this with Office 2007?
Yesterday i upgraded my 8.1 to 10. The first time is still smooth but suddenly after i installed all the driver my laptop needs, when i play a song using WMP and turned the 'repeat all' option, my laptop gone to BSOD.
I tried to read the Minidump file using WinDbg but it needs to download the symbol pack, unfortunately my internet connection is very slow.
My laptop BSOD again after using WMP (playing a song) and Photoshop CS6... BSOD again after that because I Used Photoshop.
I'm at my wits end with this computer. I get BSOD 0x124 about once a week, some times twice a week, since the life of the computer, which I've had for about 3 years. I've changed out the mobo from a GA-Z77X-UD3H to my current mobo a Z77 Extreme6 I've run memtest on each dim, had to RMA two of them due to the hammer test, and even with the fresh new ram, I still get BSOD almost daily.
While running the dm_log_collector to get the info to upload to this forum, I had another BSOD 124 while the program was collecting my PC's info. Luckily I was able to re run it after I booted to my computer.
No Im not OCing ANYTHING. This happens when the bios defaults are loaded. Happens when I turn off intel turbo boost and/or C states, and shared memory. XMP profile for my MEM on or off makes no difference. I also have a kernal memory dump ....
I can't find a case were a BSOD code 124 ever gets solved. I know that a 124 is usually hardware related but not all the time.

I've seen this BSOD a few times on this laptop. It's probably a driver issue but need identifying which ones are causing the issues.
And before you ask about the Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 3165 drivers, those from MSI have constant disconnects and barely work. Latest and most uptodate drives straight from Intel do not have any noticeable issues other than a couple of odd logs that pop up from time to time (Netwtw02). I am trying to talk with MSI on this.
