View 6 RepliesI have only had Windows 10 for a few days --- mostly it is working well but a major fault is that when searching from Cortana, or clicking on a link, I almost always get the error 'class not registered'. Yesterday I was prevented from installing Belarc Advisor because of this. No searches of the web from Cortana work.I have run SFC and DISM.
View 7 RepliesI keep getting the 'class not registered' error when I search the web from Cortana and when I click on various links. For example, I have just been stopped from installing Belarc Advisor by this. I have not been able to do any web searches from Cortana. What appears is a box stating class not registered and listing OpenWith.exe. I have tried using SFC and DISM, without success.
View 7 RepliesSince the most recent update in Windows 10, I have been unable to open any photographs. I get the message (depending on which photograph, of course) CUsersCherylDesktopDSCN9356.JPG Class not registered. I have tried all I know and nothing works.
View 6 RepliesIn my new W10 I am getting 'Class not registered" reports and the link does not open, in fact it may be the majority of the new links created by the upgrade which are affected.
View 1 RepliesMy computer company messed up on installation of windows 10. Today, I found out that the registered owner's name is wrong (besides and corrected admin account). This is not the same as the computer name. I really hate doing registry things, but is that the only way to change and if so, how to do so safely.
View 8 RepliesHow or where can I change my registered email address for windows 10 preview?
From the start when Windows started with their preview I did an registration with a email address in used in that time.
Now, running windows 10 as an insider and geregisterd with a Microsoft account and using a new Microsoft mail address, in settings my PC is saying: Get Insider Preview builds.
Now I'm thinking if I make my geregisterd email the same as the one I'm using with the Microsoft account, this will be solved.
Messed around with the drivers, now the ethernet device doesn't show up in the network adapter settings, although it shows up in the Device Manager. It is also apparently in sleep mode.So after formatting and installing Windows 10 x64 on my Dell Inspiron 3542, I decided to update/re-install the drivers from the official Dell download page. Windows Update had taken care of the hardware but the versions were outdated, so I set to work. After successfully installing almost all the drivers, I ran the Ethernet Controller Driver and after installing it, the ethernet device was disabled. BTW, the device shows up as "Realtek PCIe FE Family Controller".
I enabled it but it still remained disabled. In the Properties dialog box it gave me the option to disable it, which means that it thinks that the device is enabled, which it is not. It is visible in the Device Manager, so it is being recognized. After restarting to come to the same result, I deleted the driver from Device Manager and re-installed it, which didn't work. (I don't remember if I attempted a roll-back, although if I did then it obviously didn't work either.)
Then I went to the Realtek official website and downloaded the Win10 Auto-installation Program. It asked me to remove the previous installation from Dell, and near the end, it gave me the error, "The Realtek Network Controller was not found. If Deep Sleep Mode is enabled, Please Plug the Cable". And after this, or after deleting and re-installing the Dell driver (I unfortunately don't remember when), the ethernet device disappeared from the adapter settings. Now there's only Wi-fi there.I really want my ethernet back, even though I have wi-fi to connect to the internet. The only solutions I can see are to either get the Dell driver working or to remove the device from sleep mode.
Trying to add a new DNS IP address. Go to the adapter, go to the IPV4 properties and advanced and add the new DNS IP address. Every thing is fine until I close the adaptor window and it pops up an error "an unexpected condition occurred, not all of your requested changes in settings could be made"... Even if I make no changes at all and just open and close it I get this. Need to set the new DNS as first on the list.
View 1 RepliesI tried to change the windows update settings and I can't! I get a message saying that some settings are managed by my system administrator! I am the only user in this laptop with administrator privileges.
How comes that I can't change the settings?
I just finished a fresh install after going through several BSOD (which have now been corrected). I'm trying to change the settings and I can't changed date/time nor can I access the settings( Start>Settings). When I try and change the settings or date/time I get "This app can't open. Your trial period for this app has expired. Visit the Windows Store. Visit the Windows Store to purchase the full app." When I try to open Windows Store, same thing happens. Date/time is now an app?
View 2 RepliesI have just received updates for Windows 10, nd now when I boot up, I get a message, a copy of which I have attached to this post. This is after I sign in.
It matters not how many times I reboot, this message pops up each time.
Following instructions from a game manufacturer I changed the 'read only' settings for users / documents folder. Win 10 now disfunctions (instable, search unavailable, chrome closing incorrectly, etc). How should I proceed to restore the folder settings without restoring windows completely?
View 1 RepliesI do not want Windows 10 to update and restart my PC automatically - I want to decide when that is done.
In the Settings it is fixed at 'Automatic' update.
I have followed two suggestions to alter the setting that searches turned up, but neither have worked so far.
NOTE:
Here are the 2 Methods I tried.
When I connect an iPhone to my Win10 PC it's importing my photos to a location where I don't want them to go.
How do I change this setting?
1. Initially I couldn't open photos on Laptop after I installed Windows 10 3 days ago.
2. Told in Account Settings to Verify account, Clicked on Verify and no response every time.
3. Changed to User account and now cannot change back to Administrator Account.
4. Nothing in my settings will respond when clicked.
Tried troubleshooting links and all sorts though to no avail.
Installed a chinese application earlier called Kuwo Music Player. I have been using this particular application for quite some time and today is the first occasion where I decided to give it a go on Windows 10 too. Then came the problem, I realised that the settings to change the system locale ( this is necessary otherwise the chinese characters cannot be displayed) is no longer where it was in Windows 7/8. I too couldn't find any useful results on the Internet. where I can find and change that setting, or any other working solution would do.

View 1 RepliesSo I'm wondering how I can get the trackpad to behave the way it did in Win7, with scrolling being controlled by one finger on the side and bottom of the trackpad, instead of a 2 finger gesture in the center. It seems like I have all the settings set properly, however it hasn't changed. Am I missing something?

However the problem I have is that my vision is not that great and I am having a hard time seeing the bottom bar with the light skinned themed so I am having a hard time finding the setting to change the setting to a dark themed so I can see better. I used XP for a long time so not knowing where to look and find right away.
I somehow messed up my max memory setting from 8196 to 520 in the system configuration under the 'Boot' tab. Every time I try to restart my laptop, it said bad_system_config_error. How to change back my max memory setting to default. Btw, I'm using lenovo y510p and my os is windows 10.
View 1 RepliesMy default configuration is powered speakers connected via the optical output on the ZXR. So in control panel, the S/PDIF is my default device. I'd like to be able to also switch to headphones without having to change control panel sound settings. Is there a configuration that enables me to do this? It seems as if I can't have the s/pdif output my default if I want to use headphones. I'm on Windows 10 with latest software updates.I switched to using the analog outs from the ZXR and not taking advantage of the D/A converters built into my powered speakers (Vanatoo). Not the optimal situation, but it allows me to switch from speakers to headphones without having to go through Control Panel gyrations.
