View 2 RepliesWith the new Windows 10 November update it is now possible to change the color of the window title bar. But sadly this only works for the window that is in front and the background windows are still all white. I often click on the wrong spot when i want to move a window in the background and i want to know if there is a way to color all window title bars and not only the one in front. I know there is a way but that requires some modifying from a theme which i dont want. I would like to change it with windows settings if thats possible so there wont be a windows update that changes it again.
View 3 RepliesThis morning Microsoft sent that new "Service Pack" update out to my PC running Windows 10 Pro and now the mod used to make the windows title bar color change to anything than the white crap Microsoft uses will no longer work. I have tried twice to apply the color theme I had used before the update to make them colored again and it doesn't work. I even removed the mod and re did all the steps to make a new theme and still it doesn't work.
View 2 RepliesJust as the description states; I am using a Mac-style dock at the bottom of my WinX desktop and therefore have my taskbar located at the top of the screen. I am having an irritating issue from time-to-time, with the title-bars of some programs (or 'apps', as they seem to call them these days...) opening BENEATH the taskbar, making it impossible to get to the minimize, resize, and close buttons without first moving the taskbar to the right or left side of the screen, then moving or resizing the app window to access the buttons, and then moving the taskbar back to the top of the screen.
I am assuming the old XP "Keep Taskbar On Top Of Windows" would work, however some dufus-executive at Msoft apparently somewhere along the way determined this is no longer an attribute that anybody needs, probably since HE doesn't use it, and I cannot find the option anywhere. There used to be a tutorial over at 'Seven Forums' [URL] .... on how to reactivate it, but the link is now dead.
I've done editing the aero.theme in the themes folder. Did exactly what was said in a few websites(trusted). But no matter what it doesn't change the color. Also I tried a freeware to get the dark theme enabled. It did change the color of the settings, network and a few other windows' borders but the explorer's. :'(( Now I'm back to the same old eye-killing bright white borders everywhere. I didn't mess up any system files in the process as I had backups of everything prepared.
View 7 RepliesIn Windows 10 the title bar of all the desktop apps is just plain white. Unlike in the previous versions of Windows, you cannot change the title bar color that easily with just a few clicks in the personalization panel. Even though the decision to remove the ability to change the title bar color is part of the design choice, it is absolutely a deviation from the previous Windows options.
If you think the white-colored title bar is too light for your eyes, or if you just want to change the title bar color to your favorite color, then you can do that by following the below guide. The procedure detailed below is not necessarily difficult but is certainly messy. So follow through and you can easily change the color of Windows 10 title bars.this procedure only applies to desktop apps and not to modern apps. This is due to the fact that the developers of modern apps can choose their own colors.
Change the Color of Window Title Bars.To change the color of Window title bars, we are going to be using Windows Aero Style files. To start, open the File Explorer and navigate to the folder “C:WindowsResourcesThemes.”Once you are in the Themes folder, copy the folder “aero” and paste it in the same folder. This action will create a new copy of the “aero” folder. You will receive a couple of warning messages; just click on the “Continue” button followed by the “Skip” button on the second warning window to complete the copying process.
Once the folder has been copied, rename the folder to “color.”After renaming the folder, open the folder, locate the “aero.msstyles” file and rename it to “color.msstyles.”in the same folder, open the “en-US” folder and locate and rename the file “aero.msstyles.mui” to “color.msstyles.mui.”Once you are done with the above changes, head back to the “Themes” folder and copy the “aero.theme” file to your Desktop. As soon as you’ve copied the file, rename it to “color.theme.”
We need to edit this file to change the path for “VisualStyles.” To do that, right-click on the file, select “Open With,” select “Notepad” from the list of options and click on the “Ok” button. The above action will open the file with Notepad. Here, scroll down and find the line “Path=%ResourceDir%ThemesAeroaero.msstyles” under “[VisualStyles],” and modify it to “Path=%ResourceDir%Themescolorcolor.msstyles.” Now, save the file and close it.After completing the editing part, cut (Ctrl + X) the file and paste (Ctrl +V) it in the Themes folder. After pasting the file in, simply double-click on it to make the changes take effect.
If you’ve done everything as described in the article, Windows will change the title bar color as shown in the above image. The title bar color will be the same as the Windows 10 Accent Color, but you can easily change it in the “Colors” panel in the “Personalization” settings. If you let Windows pick the Accent Color automatically, then the title bar color will be changed according to your desktop wallpaper.the change is only applicable to the desktop apps and not to the modern apps. If you want to undo the changes, simply double-click on the “aero.theme” file in the Themes folder.Click to expand...
I don't want the dark theme as recently posted on Windows Central. I would like to darken my title bars from the present white, anyway one can do this ?
View 5 RepliesHow can I remove these transparent borders from the 'Notification' and 'Search' boxes?
Before the latest Windows 10 build I used a method in order to put some colour on the title bars which was this one:
And I thought updating to the latest build that finaly included these colours would fix that issue but it's still there.
Windows 10 has been out long enough... any way to have black (or dark) title bars with white text without using uxtheme patcher?

View 2 RepliesI have Pinned a few sites to the start menu using Microsoft Edge. My problem is that all of them have the same "E" edge (internet explorer) icon. So unless I keep them at large size, or remember in what order they were pinned/arranged, I have no clue which pin is for which site.
When you click "Pin To Start" in the options menu in Edge, where are those pins stored?
Here's a screenshot of "Taskbar and Start Menu Properties" dialog from a fresh clean install of Windows 10 Pro x64
As you can see, despite its name, it does not have a tab for "Start Menu". I remember that Preview versions of Windows 10 had a "Start Menu" tab. Did they just remove at the last moment? And how I change Start Menu options without that tab?
I was rearranging some stuff on the Start Menu and Taskbar before it started. So, basically, when I try to hover over the Taskbar, the mouse simply switches to the "loading" animation and won't let me open any pinned programs or open the Start Menu. If I try spamming the Start button on the taskbar, it opens sometimes but closes after a split second, before I can do anything. The same happens with right click menus on the desktop, they instantly disappear. The screen goes black every few seconds.
I can still open desktop programs, though they don't seem to be useful. When I open programs, they seem to be exempt from these effects, excluding the fact that most programs are automatically closed. I admittedly do not have much knowledge of computers. I tried most things that came to mind. None worked, of course. I tried doing multiple forced resets, removing the battery, made a useless attempt at resetting the normal way, I tried scanning the registry for issues with CCleaner, I tried getting towards the Control Panel via the right click menu, but it automatically closed. I also tried using Powershell but it took me like an hour just to open it and wasn't of much use either. And lastly I tried ending tasks on the Task Manager, but that just made the entire screen black, so thats great. I
1. Make TitleBars, StartMenu, TaskBar and so on, keep the same color in example the default black.
2. Make Tiles keep a color in example blue. Like in Windows 8.1.
That is, I want to keep ALL THE DAFAULT COLORS but also make title bar black.
I've tried to fix this from sites and advice on the internet, but it keeps happening.
View 7 RepliesThree weeks ago I upgraded from Windows 7 Ultimate to Windows 10 Pro. Everything went well and I was a happy camper until two days ago. Suddenly the start menu was gone. The icon is still there but when I click on it, it opens the start menu for a split second and then it's gone. The action center wont open either
(1) changing user accounts. But it won't let me because I cannot add another user (nothing happens).
(2) tried the powershell trick, running as admin and pasting in Get-AppXPackage -AllUsers | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register "$($_.InstallLocation)AppXManifest.xml"}
(3) a system restore. There were no restore points unfortunately.
(4) tried safe mode but still no dice.
I don't know if this has been caused by the powershell trick or that it was already there when my start menu dispappeared, but it now seems that my taskbar has become irrepsonsive (right clicking does not do anything, not even a contextual menu and the system tray icons do not respond to clicking).
To make matters worse (and I don't know whether it is related), it seems that my wifi has gone down as well. I cannot connect to the internet anymore. DNS_PROBE_FINISHED_NO_INTERNET Chrome says. Ipconfig reveals that "media is disconnected". No default gateway is specified (other devices have no problem connecting to my router).
I not looking forward to do a clean install, as this will mean that I have to first install Windows 7 again to get the free upgrade to Windows 10 (or is there another way of installing W10 without the upgrade?)
I have spent all day trying different cures for the Startup menu and task bar freeze problem to no avail. The problem does not exist in my user acct only in the wife's and she is getting upset. I did some how get it to stop locking out and forcing a restart. It's no wonder they give this away if you had the audacity to charge people for something this screwed up you could get into real trouble
View 3 RepliesIs it possible to lower the taskbar while the start menu is up?
View 7 RepliesW10 startmenu and some features in the taskbar (search, sound icon, wifi icon, battery icon, notification system, "search pc & web") seems to be unresponsive. not sure if it is like this for all but i tried restarting the pc numerous times and also attempted to find any after-release articles but i couldnt find any.
View 2 RepliesMy laptop is LENOVO G510. It came with windows 8 single language. I upgraded to windows 8.1 single language a year ago. I updated it to windows 10 home by triggering the update. The upgrade went successfully. But the problem now is the start button, applications in the taskbar(only right click) and icons on the taskbar on the right side(time, battery, wifi etc) are not working. They work if I click them after a gap of ten minutes. But if I click them for a second time immediately, they won't work.
I got a message box showing "startmenu and cortana are not working, it will be fixed the next time you sign in". When I sign out and sign in, there is no change.
I upgraded to Windows 10 last night and have had nothing but problems. The biggest one is the fact that I cannot open the start menu, I had worked around it by right clicking it and then selecting what I needed from there. However now that doesn't even work.

View 3 RepliesRight click empty part of taskbar, go to "properties". I have 3 tabs. Taskbar, navigation, and toolbars. According to several sites I have read, I should also have a "start menu" tab with a "customization" button to change some things on the left side of the start menu, and also enable pinning things to the left side. This option is missing for me. Is this something that has to be enabled with a registry tweak?
View 9 RepliesOn occasion when I mouse over either the start bar or the taskbar it doesn't change colour like it usually does (the little blue background it changes to for instance) and it doesn't let me click on them. As well as this, it doesn't let me click on any window that isn't the currently selected one. I've tried running SFC /scannow but it says there's no problem, as well as reinstalling windows apps with powershell.
There doesn't seem to be any noticeable way to recreate this happening reliably, it just happens completely randomly. I've found a way to fix it when it comes up, which is to run any program in administrator mode (I usually run cmd in administration mode by opening it with my keyboard and holding ctrl shift enter) and then when the message asking if I want to open it in administration mode comes up, entering yes with my keyboard. When I do this it fixes it back to normal.
Start Menu, Cortana and Taskbar is not working in Windows 10, I don't want to format or reset my Microsoft Windows 10 32bit Pro.I tried google my problem and open this page: [URL] I didn't attempt the last step Refresh your PC i.e (Reset). Start Menu is not opening when clicking on Start Button and Cortana not opening and not giving any response.
