Computer Reboots 2 Minutes After Log On - Critical Kernel Power / Event ID 41

Aug 30, 2015

Every time I've logged into my account on my PC, it has rebooted (without showing any error message or crash screen) after a few minutes or so.

Opening event viewer, it shows event ID 41 at the time of reboot - the event before that is an event ID 6 stating "File System Filter 'FileCrypt' (10.0, ?2015?-?07?-?10T04:14:31.000000000Z) has successfully loaded and registered with Filter Manager." - I have never heard of filecrypt, the other events are all legitimate ones associated with the system booting up.

I have attempted booting in safe mode using msconfig, but that doesn't seem to work. So far, the only thing that works is by switching to an account that's barely used, where the computer runs perfectly well with no crashes.

I suspect a virus, but I haven't downloaded anything dodgy recently, and Avira (free) hasn't found anything either ...

Also, here's a link for a video taken of the reboot happening, as well as all open processes/services: [URL] ....

Nvidia Driver Crashes / Then PC Restarts And Get Critical Kernel-Power

Oct 27, 2015

I have been getting these nvidia driver crashes, where the monitor turns off by itself and then recovers and I can continue using it normally, but lately the drivers just crash and a few moments after, the PC reboots on its own but fails to turn on the monitor, which forces me to do a manual reboot. After the manual reboot, I go to Event Viewer and find these errors: Critical, Event ID 41, Source Kernel-Power. Error, Event ID 3, Source Kernel-EventTracing.

Power Settings - Put Computer To Sleep - Nn Minutes Is Changed To Never

Aug 10, 2015

When I walk away from my computer, I want it to go to sleep in 20 minutes. Sometimes I return after an hour, and the computer is still awake. There's obviously a rat in the woodpile here. Some software is changing my sleep setting from 20 minutes to "Never" without my permission. Sometimes it will sleep normally for a day or 2, then suddenly something resets my sleep time to "Never".

Is there a way I can block this activity, or re-set it to the proper 20 minute setting on each startup?BTW, I had the same problem in WIn7 and Win8. I was hoping it would be fixed in Win10. It has not.

BSOD :: Critical Error Event ID 41 After Every Shutdown And Bootup

Aug 29, 2015

Prior to upgrading to Windows 10, my system was running Windows 7 Home Premium SP1. When running my previous OS (WIN 7) I rarely had errors listed in Event Viewer. Now after upgrading to Windows 10, I get errors/warnings I never used to get under Windows 7.

The error is of the "Critical" level in Event Viewer.

After doing a normal shutdown, and then booting my system, I check Event Viewer and always find the following critical error:

"The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly."

---------------------- START: Event Viewer XML error text ---------------------

- <Event xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/win/2004/08/events/event">
- <System>
<Provider Name="Microsoft-Windows-Kernel-Power" Guid="{331C3B3A-2005-44C2-AC5E-77220C37D6B4}" />
<EventID>41</EventID>
<Version>3</Version>

[Code] ....

I never used to get this error after doing a normal shutdown (prior to upgrade to Windows 10, when I was on Windows 7). Now it happens all the time. Why this error is occurring after doing a normal shutdown followed by a boot?

I suspect it's a glitch with the first production release of Windows 10, but I have no proof of that. My system runs fine, yet I get the above error (and a number of other errors) since I upgraded to Windows 10.

Unexplained PC Reboot (Kernel-Power 41 (63) Error)

Jan 8, 2016

My PC will randomly reboot when in the middle of any video game. It has not happened while I am not in a game (from what I can remember). It goes to a straight black screen, so no BSOD.

My CPU is running no hotter than 45 Celsius. It has only happened after being ran for 2 hours or more. There is NO error message upon shutdown/reboot, and I also ran a virus scan with MalwareBytes and found nothing. Event Viewer shows the "Kernel-Power 41 (63)" error.

After the reboot, it goes to my lock screen with no error message. It also loads everything on my desktop/taskbar abnormally slow.

The only thing new before the issue:
-Gigabyte Gaming 7 Motherboard
-Intel i7 4790k
-NZXT Phantom 530 (Case)
-Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO (CPU Cooler)

My PC Specs are as follows:

CPU: i7 4790k
Motherboard: Gigabyte Gaming 7

GFX: EVGA GeForce GTX 670 FTW 4GB D5

HDD: Western Digital Blue 1TB 7200 RPM
SSD: Samsung 850 EVO 250 GB

Performance :: Power Down Button Does Not Completely Turn Computer Power Off?

Jan 28, 2016

I recently upgraded Windows 7 to Windows 10. When I power down the system from the menu, my computer does not completely turn off. The procedure I use is described below:

Click Windows_Start_button > Power > Shutdown

The system closes applications and appears to initiate a shutdown procedure. Everything appears to be shut off, but my mouse is still lit up. I do notice that the fan stops and everything else appears to be completely shut down. When I was running Windows 7 before my upgrade, my system completely powered down.

I have a dual boot system with Linux, and when I power down from Linux, the shutdown is complete, so I don't think I accidentally did anything to the hardware or BIOS.

Antivirus :: Power Option For Turning Off Display Remains At 15 Minutes?

Dec 15, 2015

I am running Windows 10 Professional 64 bit. Whenever I set the option "Turn off the display" to "Never", it reverts back to the default "15 minutes". This is under the "High Performance" profile. I have never, since Windows 3.11, ever had a setting change itself back. I have tried to change it and restart. It will either revert upon restart or shortly after. It will revert back even if I do not restart.

Power Saving And Sleep Modes - In 5 Minutes Only Screen Goes Blank

Oct 19, 2015

Ok, I have read several people having problems with the sleep/power save modes.

I have a similar problem. I can't keep my screen from going blank. Now what I have done is I went into the power save and sleep modes and had everything set to "never" including "none" on screensaver. Well in 5 minutes the screen goes blank but the computer, drive and my previous items & webpages are right where I left them. I also tried setting the time the display goes to sleep for 30 minutes and it stills goes into blank mode in 5 minutes. My assumption is, no matter what I set the power/save and screensaver to it still goes into a 5 min no activity screen blank.

Computer is a HP ENVY dv7, AMD A10,Quad core with 16Gb mem; 650Gb drive. Previous OS Windows 8.1. All drivers were updated to latest before update to Windows 10.

Computer Reboots To Safe Mode After Clean Install

Apr 2, 2016

Yesterday my computer froze a number of times. It started off at about 3 minutes post boot up then got subsequently quicker with each restart. It eventually started freezing on the windows logo screen.

After about two windows logo screen freezes it automatically booted into safe mode. At this point I tried Clr CMOS, which had no apparent effect and then I disabled literally every startup program and that still had no effect.

Where I stand now:

- I have backed up all my data to an external drive.

- I have performed a "full reset" of my computer i.e. all personal data, installed apps and settings are wiped and windows reinstalls a clean version of itself.

- The set up of windows worked normally, but once it rebooted itself after set up was finished it automatically booted to safe mode.

I've exported an xml and a text document from speccy ....

New Computer Froze After 30 Minutes?

Sep 17, 2015

Brand new computer, just took it out of the box. Came with windows 10 already installed. Worked fine at first. I deleted a couple of junk programs like the Ebay app. Transferred some documents, pictures, movies, and music files from an external hard drive onto the computer. None of those files were files types that (I would think) are high risk. Downloaded ITunes. Installed ESET smart security anti-virus program.

Now computer is frozen. Ctr-alt-delete doesn't work. Ctr-shift-esc doesn't work. The cursor can be moved around on screen but clicking anywhere, or on anything has no effect. Keyboard has no effect. The only way I can even restart is with the power button, but when I restart it starts up into the same frozen state. Have tried starting it in safe mode but can't get it to enter safe mode on startup.

Brand New Computer Freezes After 2 - 15 Minutes

Mar 15, 2016

Friend of mine bought a new computer for his son and i built it together. The specs are as follows:

HDD: Samsung 850 EVO Series 250GB
PSU + Case : Cooler Master Elite 310 Silver / Black - EVGA 500W White
GPU: Gigabyte GeForce GTX970 G1 Gaming 4GB
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-B150M-DS3H DDR3
Memory: Crucial BallistixSport 2x4GB 1600MHz
HDD2: Seagate Desktop HDD 2TB 7200RPM
CPU: Intel Core i5-6400 2.70GHz
Fresh install of windows 10.

Everything boots up fine, i get into windows and drivers etc gets installed, then suddenly everything freezes completely, no bluescreen, no event viewer errors, just basically "stop" and nothing works.

I tested this so far:

Disabled all onboard stuff in bios, tested to reinstall the windows about 10 times, tested 1 piece of ram, 2 piece of ram, and ram from another computer, same with GPU and HDD's and PSU (basically swapped everything from another computer except motherboard and CPU, still same thing happens).

What puzzles me is that the computer works 100% fine, nothing seems wrong, then it suddenly locks completly. all temperatures are fine, all performance is up to par, everything seems in order. Games run at max fps etc (if i even manage to start em before it freezes).

Computer Won't Launch Any Programs About 30 Minutes After Startup

Oct 24, 2015

I am experiencing an issue with my computer that has been occurring since I upgraded to Windows 10. At startup, I can launch any program fine. However, after about 30 minutes or so of inactivity (I've never actually timed it), I loose the ability to launch programs. I double click on an application, Chrome, Edge, Steam, File Folders, anything, and it just doesn't seem to register. I can bring up the Start Menu screen, but launching from there as opposed to the task bar or desk top gets me the same result. I get the circle icon for a second as if it is thinking, but it never launches. I cannot even launch Task Manager without hitting Ctrl+Alt+Del and launching it that way. When I do, the programs I attempt to open do not appear in the list. My only recourse is to reboot the computer and then it works fine again.

Here's my computer's system info:

Even when I attempted to open my windows setting it's slow. My computer is a gaming computer with an i7 and a gtx 970 with 16 gigs of dd3 ram.
