Computer Emits A Loud Buzz Sounding Like Electronic Short
Mar 5, 2016
This problem started a month or two ago and basically whats happening is every once in awhile (20 minutes to half an hour). My computer emits a loud buzz sounding very much like an electrical short like when you have an amp turned up and a cable shorts out when wiggled.
However there is very little wiring that can go wrong in the back of my pc. I've made sure the speakers are all firmly plugged in etc. Anyway could this be indicative of a hardware problem? It seems like the "buzzing" sound is getting worse as in it lasts for a longer interval than originally. It began as a 1 second burp but now continues for 2 or even 3 seconds at times.

Everytime I do something like open a new tab/website, or click on something that has to load, my audio on whatever I'm listening to lags and has that loud buzz sound.
This lag/buzz sound happens randomly when I listen to things on youtube without clicking on things too.

my computer will randomly freeze without any warning. I've tried a lot of things to find the source of this issue, I tested my gpu my cpu and my ram, none of them are the reason. And from what I've noticed i'm not the only person with the issue and the issue seems to be common to windows 10.

As the title states, my computer will turn off the display or go to sleep (not sure of correct terminology) when I go idle for a short period of time. For instance, I get up to get a glass of water and when I come back, the screensaver is up and I need to re-enter my password. This problem arose immediately after the installing of windows 10 on my PC (upgraded from Windows 8.1).
I have already gone to control panel ~> power options but the thing is, even though I've already done that and set the options to "Never turn off display", "Never go to sleep" as shown in the screenshot, my PC still turns off display/sleeps after a short amount of time.

After maybe 10 minutes, I get a complete freeze and I need to restart my computer. After many attempts of restarting, it usually works fine if it doesn't freeze in the first half an hour. I attached the log.

Ever since I have upgraded to Windows 10 I have lost pretty much all of my bass in my headphones and my microphone now sounds like a robot to a point that you are not even able to make out what I am saying. I have a Realtek audio card and I have tried playing with all of the settings. It recognizes everything as being plugged in as well.

Received an automatic update for my Windows 10 a couple of days ago and since then my PC has been sounding the notifications sound (as if I'm receiving a new email) every minute or so without actually reporting any new notifications or new emails. I've unplugged all externally connected devices (in case it was a device issue) and have found that the only way it stops is if I close Outlook (2016). I usually leave my Outlook open so I know when new emails arrive - but as it's sounding notifications for no apparent reason I've just closed it down to get some peace. I've even tried setting the notifications sound to 'none' for Outlook in the Notifications / All Settings / System / Notifcations & Actions tab - and yet it still sounds a false notification when Outlook is open.

Starting a couple of days ago my Windows 10 computer start menu stopped opening (although I can still right click on it to shut down). This coincided with a chime constantly sounding. I'm not sure if this is related, but there is a pending notification on the lower right, but I can't open that to see what it says.
I tried reinstalling Windows apps with powershell, but this didn't do the trick.

So I've used Windows 10 for about 6 months now without any issues beyond a game or two not working, which usually have obvious solutions or unofficial patches. This one stumped me though.
Basically, all play buttons stop working randomly, as well as audio dropping out and sounding robotic, as if slowed down significantly, upon returning.
Some background, this issue began a few days ago, after my third monitor broke. I won't go into that, as it shouldn't matter, but after it broke and I unplugged it, the issues began to arise. I was attempting to edit something in Premiere Pro when I noticed it first. The preview window would not play, although the play icon would turn into a stop icon. I didn't think much of this, but decided to test something else by making a new project and putting some other footage in. This worked. I assumed that the issue was with my SD card, as the other footage was gameplay recorded directly from the PC, whereas the other footage was taken from my camera. I rebooted, and the issue was gone... for a bit. A little bit later, the same issue occurred. This time, however, no footage whatsoever would work. Even YouTube wouldn't work. The only software that could play video was VLC. I did have this issue before, I believe sometime in November. That time a reboot fixed the issue for months.
Later I began to notice other issues. Audio would drop out for a few seconds, no matter what was playing. Spotify, YouTube, Premiere, everything. Sometimes it would come back normally. I've checked my interface, and it appears to be fine (it's a Focusrite Scarlett 2i2). Sometimes audio comes back robotic, like it was slowed down by editing or by using the speed option in YouTube. I've never had this issue with Windows 7.
I've reset to a slightly earlier build of Windows, but it hasn't worked. Since I've had 10 for more than a month I cannot revert to 7 without a clean install, which I'm hoping not to do, mainly because a clean install would obviously be terrible since I'll have to reinstall everything, but also because I do like Windows 10, and have had no issues so far.

I recently bought a new psu : Silverstone strider 600w modular. It is currently the loudest fan in my PC right now, on top of my 3 cm sickleflows and my fractal design cpu cooler fan. Is this normal or not? It seems loud, but I haven't heard many psu's in action so I might just be wrong.
This is the PSU [URL] ....

I have a year-old Lenovo G500 laptop, and recently it started doing this loud, buzzing sound quite often, even when there's only one program opened. I checked CPU and disk usage the first few times it happened, but they're fairly low. I'm not exactly sure if the sound is coming from a fan or is it HDD. I do know for sure that the fan isn't dusty, when I brought it to a tech shop they told me there's no need for a cleaning.

my laptop's volume simply isnt as loud as it is supposed to be, or has been in the past. all settings/ controls that i can find are turned to 100 percent. And i dont mean that i want it louder than 100%, im saying that the 100% that its on sounds like what should be 50-60%. I know that it has been able to be a good deal louder in the past. So i dont know whats wrong. I am in the military and have been away from my laptop for about 3 months, but everything seems to be up to date. It is to the point where its just not loud enough to enjoy/ use to play games or watch videos. And same thing for when i plug my headphones in, it isnt loud enough then either, sounds like what should be 50 or 60%. My laptop is an msi ge72 apache pro, and runs windows 10.

As best as I can tell, the the windows 10 date format has four options beginning with "month" and only one beginning with "day"?
My accounting software will not run unless I can get the short date format starting with day. The nearest option is 13/Aug/15 ... no option for 13/8/15, 13/08/15 etc...

ive noticed the notification sounds are way too loud. if i go into system sounds and hit the little green 'test' button it plays nicely at a normal level. but when the actual notification comes in i get this boosted version of the same sound that is extremely annoying. I have the sounds disabled for the time being
it happens even if i change the notification sound to something else. maybe ill have to make a custom version with it -12db or something then it might sound normal

When I start a HD movie, or just have windows or Kodi on, I get this static noise, and when I play a video it gets even louder. It sounds like the volume is turned up really high. When there's sound from the movie you really can't hear it, but when it's a quiet part or only talking, it's audible.
However, since I watch shows and movies mostly with headphones, it's really an issue, it is very audible and disturbing. I've noticed that when I move my cursor in Windows I get a faint "extra" static sound.
I use a Bluetooth keyboard/mouse combo. I've tried disabling WiFi, Bluetooth, changing drivers, change where I connect the power cord in the wall.
This is not an issue with my xbox, or my old non-windows, non-pc media player. There was a very faint static on the old media player, but that can be attributed to many a thing, but wasn't a problem.
System:
Fanless htpc.
120W psu.(it's located at the opposite end of where my hdmi is connected, and uses an external block as a transformator.)
Skylake cpu.
Gigabyte z170n wifi MB.

I have a back up of files & folders that I come from my previous Windows 7 system (same machine - I upgraded to W10) that I am not ableto restore and I really need them. My system is the following:
HP Pavilion DV7-6b32US laptop/notebook
64 bit
16GB RAM
2 internal HD (1 is the original 500GB and the other is a 1TBdrive divided into two equal partitions in the NTFS format
The back up was done using Windows 7 built in feature/utility and I am trying to restore the folders with their files to my Win 10 but I keep getting the error "short names are not enabled on this volume" with the code 0x80070131. I have done my research which pointed me to answers pointing to this: "to manually enable 8.3naming after formatting you can use fsutil.exe from the command line: fsutil 8dot3name set d: 0 (d: is the drive partition on my 1TB NTFS driveI use for my data where I am trying to restore the files to. The only thing I haven't done is the formatting for two reasons, 1 - it is already formatted and 2 - I have a TON of data already on the drive that I cannot lose.

It seems to have started after a recent Windows update, but I'm not sure exactly what specific element has screwed things up for me and it may have taken a bit of time for me to notice the problem due to the nature of it. I wouldn't know when to roll back my system to even if I was willing to try, and I'm not at this point.
If I leave Windows 10 alone for more than a few minutes, it freezes. This happens without fail and it's consistent. Any more than five minutes give or take a minute or two and it's frozen hard and requires a hard reset. Ctrl alt del doesn't work, alt tab doesn't work, nothing but the power button or the reset button on the case has any affect.
There is no error message, there is no spinning wheel mouse icon, the mouse pointer doesn't move. It's just frozen and no input does anything. The screen just has a still image of whatever was displaying when it happened and audio is also dead, no system sounds or anything. There was sound once, but it was when I had a game running and left it too long, and it was just that locked up audio buzzing sound. It's a hard lockup of my system and not just the video getting stuck.
It also doesn't matter if something is running. If I have a video or game running, it still happens. As long as I'm not actively inputting something with an input device such as the keyboard, mouse, or a gamepad it locks up. If I pause a game to go get something to eat it's frozen when I come back, if I'm watching a video and get up to go to the bathroom it's locked up when I get back, it doesn't matter if I pause whatever it is or leave it running.
If I'm doing something, typing, playing a game, or whatever, it will run for hours uninterrupted. No problems whatsoever. I've got Fallout 4 and I've played for several hours without any problems as long as I'm sitting there and actually playing the game.
It's like the PC is trying to go to sleep or go into an idle or power saving mode from a lack of input and is crashing hard as a result. The problem is I've disabled everything that would do that.
I'm running Windows 10 x64 Home edition. I have an i7 3770k, 16Gb of Ram, two Radeon HD 7970s in Xfire [doesn't matter if this is on or off], and my boot drive is a SSD. It's not a new system and Windows 10 has been running fine on it for several months now.
I've already disabled all screensavers, there are no scheduled tasks or updates screwing with anything. They all happen in the middle of the night and nothing is pending. All my drivers are up to date, caches have been cleared, and everything runs fine as long as I'm there and active. The usual suite of common updating software such as adobe and virus definitions are also up to date, so that isn't it either.
I have already disabled shut downs and sleeping in the power settings. Every power setting has been adjusted so that my PC never shuts down on its own and was already set that way to begin with. I've double checked and everything is still set the way it should be. I've already turned off Link State Power Management in all power settings. That isn't it either.
I do have AMD's new Crimson drivers, but this was happening before I installed them. That's not the source of the problem. I installed the new driver in the hope of maybe fixing the problem and it had no effect on it.
I've scanned for viruses, malware, and adware. My system is clean.
My temps are fine, all system monitors show a clean bill of health and no unusual activity spikes in my hardware. Task Manager, processes, and services don't show any extra or unusual programs running. Nothing is out of the ordinary when this happens outside of there being no input for a bit.
There are no error messages popping up at all. No BSOD or indication of any problems outside of the freezing itself. It just locks up suddenly and once it does no input does anything but a reset using the tower's power buttons.

W10 old insider build upgraded to w10 pro. No matter what media: mp3 in WMP, AUdio in movie or audio in the flashplayer(youtube). My audio distorts in periodic intervalls with an foreign noise distortion.
I have an old Laptop that still has official W7 drivers and they are at least partly installed(chipset) but the grafics driver is installed from W10 as the official ones from ATI and my laptop manufacturer wont install.
I ran the windows driver stresstest as advised in this forum but the laptop crashed BEFORE THE BOOTLOADER! ... had to boot it in safe mode.

I've been experiencing the same crash repeatedly now, while playing any game(it's happened so far in Rainbow Six Siege, Fallout 4 and Just Cause 3) my screen will randomly lock up and there's always a loud EEEEEEEEEEEEE sound until I shut the PC off manually with the power button.
I've tried checking the event logs and there doesn't seem to be anything in there when the lock happens and the PC is completely unresponsive during the lock.
DM Log attached.
