Computer Screen Zoomed In After Upgrade
Aug 3, 2015
I have just upgraded to Windows 10 and now my computer screen is really zoomed in. I have updated my latest graphics card drivers and have selected the highest screen resolution (1920x1080) and it still is really zoomed in (my desktop icons can't fit on the screen because it's so zoomed in). Also, just to be clear, it's zoomed in everywhere (on chrome, settings, file explorer, start menu, desktop etc.)

I have recently purchased a new 4k television and sometimes plug my laptop via an HDMI cable to it for gaming. When I connect, the desktop is zoomed in and some games do not run because of this.. Now I had this issue with a standard 1080p TV, it was a simple fix of adjusting the Change the size of text ,apps and other items slide bar under settings/system/display. Games would start working and thedesktop would resume its normal size. But with this 4k TV, the Change of size of text bar and not selectable along with a number of other options, like resolution (I have to do this via the Intel Graphics Control Panel. Some games do not like working whilst the desktop is set to zoom

I have a Lenovo Thinkpad Edge with an Intel I5 processor, 64 bit with no hardware upgrades (stock). I had accidentally stepped on the screen (fell off my lap and then crunch) which was mangled beyond repair, so I have been using it similar to a tower, with a VGA and/or HDMI connected monitor (my HDMI cable went bad, I picked up a new cable but hadn't hooked it up to the second monitor. I started my free upgrade from Windows 7 Home Premium to 10 last night. I woke up to the black screen/mouse pointer issue which is what brought me to this thread. I tried the recommended fix:
1. Hit ctrl, type in password and enter
2. Win Key + P + Down Arrow. (Win Key + P only seems to do the same thing)
This brought up options to
1. Disconnect projector (Tried this and lost connection to the VGA even after reboot)
2. Duplicate (Screen is still black with mouse cursor, but I saw a little bit of red and blue pixels at the bottom where the task bar should be until I disconnected and re-connected the VGA, then it was back to black screen and cursor)
3. Extend (still black screen and cursor)
4. Connect Projector (still black screen and cursor)
I'm not sure what to do. I must have some OS installed, because I am able to also perform these operations from my USB Keyboard/Mouse. I'm just not sure how to get Windows back on my VGA connection (I haven't tried HDMI because I did not have it connected when I ran the update.) I thought Duplicate displays would do the trick, but apparently not. For as beat up as the laptop is on the outside, the hardware performs fine. I also have a 2nd laptop (work laptop, also a Lenovo W541) that I can use if any solution involves downloading something bootable.

Yes I'm a Windows Insider and should get the release version of Win 10 on the 29th based on my usual fast "flight" fairly quickly for my Win 10 preview installation. Based on my email address will that give me a reasonably early download of Win 10 on my Win 7 computer? If not can I use the Install.esd to make a release version iso for my Win 7 computer?

After upgrading to Windows 10, my computer now restarts after I have left it idle for more than about an hour. I havent caught it in the act so I don't know exactly what it does when it restarts. I changed the update settings to notify me before restart so that shouldn't be the issue in this case.

I used to run Windows 7, 64 bit. Then I took the free upgrade to Windows 10. It took me 3 or 4 attempts to get it to download and install.
Now my computer shuts itself down when it thinks I am away from it. My husband and I run a law office out of our home, and I cannot babysit the computer all day. I need it to stay on until I turn it off.
Here are my power settings:
Turn off display - 20 hours and 10 minutes
Turn off hard disk - 2340 minutes (39 hours)
Sleep - never
Power button - do nothing
But it ignores me. It still turns off my computer all by itself if I am not there giving it constant keystrokes or mouse clicks. Totally unacceptable. If I can't fix this by the 5th, I am going back to 7.
Then I was counseled to o to the ControlPanel/Power Options On the left side, click ‘Choose what the Power button does’, un-check ‘Turn on fast startup’ and save my changes. But that did not work either - it still shut itself down the minute my back was turned. It seems I am not the only one with this problem.

Since I upgraded to Windows 10, when my computer sleeps, it does not wake up. It does not respond to any of the keys and no response from the power button either. I have to remove the battery to get it restarted. If I barely move away from the computer, by the time I get back, same thing happens.

My windows 7 PC was hard to start and restart and I needed to try 10 times or more before it worked (then I didn't restart it for days).
I managed to upgrade it to Windows 10 hoping that it will cure the problem BUT still it is a problem to start.
I checked everything and used every tool possible on windows 7 and windows 10 but nothing worked. (ccleaner and others failed)
So now I have a windows 10 PC that doesn't want to start easily.
Do you think that the problem can really be a driver ? After upgrade to windows 10 I GUESS that all driver files have been changed ?

My hard drive shows 20 more GB of space but everything is gone that I used or saved on the computer. I did not back up everything since the info I read said I would not loose this information.
Is there any way to retrieve it or roll back the hard drive to Windows 7 and retrieve the data I lost?

I've been trying to update to the latest build for some time now, I'm currently on 9926. The update downloads fine and it also goes through the process of installation fine, up until it's time to restart the computer for the final step, that's where the problem begins. It gets stuck on a boot up loop, it loads to the windows logo and says preparing automatic repair and restarts the computer again and again with the "preparing automatic repair" message. I made an installation disc for 9926 so that's how I'm able to reset the computer but I've also made one for the latest build but I still get the same boot up loop problem. I really want to be on the latest build and I'm worried that I won't even be able to install the official release.

When I am using my computer, the screen will go black and then go to the lock screen, just like if I had locked it using the start menu. It happens even If I'm actively using my computer. All my power settings are set so that when my laptop is on the "hp recommended" power setting, it will never go to sleep and never turn off the display. I've restarted, and updated my computer.

I recently cleaned my computer (got dust out and repasted the heat sink on my processor). I wouldn't even consider myself an amateur computer person, but I know how to use Google and can generally troubleshoot common problems.
To the point: At some point after I put my computer back together and hooked it up to my monitor (that had no previous problems) it started going black for 1 - 2 seconds while I use File Explorer (just browsing) on my computer. The problem is frequent but inconsistent as to when it will do it. If I'm doing something and need to navigate, after opening a file it will sometimes just go black for 1 - 2 seconds and come back as if nothing happened. If say I acted as though the monitor did not go black and pressed enter on a highlighted file, when the monitor refreshed properly whatever I did executed properly. If I'm watching a movie or playing a video game or browsing the internet* or alt-tab between programs on already opened files I do not have this problem. It only occurs when I browse files on my harddrive.
*after I wrote this I went to watch an embedded youtube video and pressed play and it did blink for less than a second after I hit the play button (did not go full screen yet). If I notice anything else I will update this.
One very peculiar thing and I don't even know if it's related or not, is if I leave my computer idle for 2 - 3 hours and come back I cannot get the screen to come up at all (the monitor acts like there is no input) and not only that, my computer reset button is unresponsive. I literally have to do a hard reboot to get my computer to respond. This only happens if I leave it alone for long periods. It doesn't happen as long as I'm using the computer.

After Windows 10's failed attempt to reset, it asked me what I want to do next, try to reset again or return to Windows. I gave up and "returned to Windows" only to discover that Windows is gone and I can only get to BIOS (which I can enter). After the BIOS screen comes a black screen and it appears that the system tries to write something but can't, and only shows underlines, and restarts (but the power remains ON, it doesn't shut down completely).

My computer went to a black screen again after installation, but after waiting for a while my computer fell asleep and I went to wake it up and the black screen was gone. I still get the black screen after I restart, but I just press the power button on my laptop, put it to sleep and then I press some button (any) and it's fine.

I have a Windows 10 pc I have never had problems with I was playing wow just now and the screen went all black and the computer kept running. The monitor said no connection found despite being connected to the tower that was still running. Naturally I tried restarting the computer manually. Now turning it back on nothing happens; the blue power button blinks orange; and makes a very loud clicking noise. This happens even when the power cord is plug in and you don't touch any buttons. I opened my pc and cleaned the fan still nothing.

My laptop began moving incredibly slow last night, like the cursor would hardly move and it sounded like it was running extra hard. I turned it off and this morning it won't load past the start up screen. And still, the windows loading icon spins incredibly slow.
Eventually it goes to a black screen for some time, then the automatic repair icon appears, then "diagnosing your pc". It made it past that once and got to the advanced option screen but was moving so slowly that I couldn't click on anything.
