Computer Slow To Resume From Sleep

Jan 15, 2016

I did a fresh install on a SSD not to long ago. The computer is running very smoothly for the most part. However, sometimes when I open the lid to my laptop, it is temporarily unresponsive for a minute or so when resuming from sleep mode. It's pretty annoying. I think it has something to do with my USB settings because it only seems to do it when something is plugged in there. For example, thumb drive, external hard drive.

I tried playing with the settings in power settings. I have turn off hard disk set to never. USB selective suspend set to disabled.

Resume From Display Sleep - Windows Being Resized

Aug 24, 2015

I have tried out a few different monitors recently, but I just settled on the one I want to use. All was going well but after it wakes from "sleeping", the windows are being resized and moved. Perhaps there is some issue with drivers from the other monitors messing things up?

Installation :: Blank Screen Upon Resume From Sleep Or Hibernate

Aug 5, 2015

I upgraded from Windows 7 "Starter Edition" (32-bit) on an ASUS Eee PC 1005PE (2GB RAM) to Windows 10 32-bit. This mostly seemed to work, however I can no longer resume from either sleep or hibernate. In either case, I get a blank screen. The other problem I notice is that the task bar separator (with a scroll bar type widget) between the active tasks and the notification icons seems to disappear and the active task icons seem to get mistakenly hidden from view. This is a minor annoyance and something I can live with, simply by switching periodically to the "Task View". But I would really like resolving the wakeup from sleep problem. So far I have tried updating the video adapter driver (which was already "up to date"), and I checked that I have the latest BIOS firmware.

Performance :: Slow Internet Reconnect After Wakes From Sleep

Nov 21, 2015

My new Asus Win10 machine with a solid-state hard drive wakes up from sleep refreshingly quickly -- just a couple of seconds. But it takes between 15 and 40 seconds before the Internet connection is re-established. Once the connection is re-established, it works fine. But that delay is annoying. Can I do something to speed up the re-connection?

I don't know where the delay is coming from. My NIC is plugged directly into my Comcast cable modem -- no other routers or the like involved. The NIC on the machine claims to be an "Intel Ethernet Connection (2) 1219-V", running driver version 12.13.17.4, which is claimed to be the current version. The "Power Management" tab in Device Manager for the NIC lists three power-saver options, all of which are enabled (that is, the boxes are checked):

Respond to ARP requests without waking system
Respond to NS requests without waking system
Energy Efficient Ethernet

(I am attaching a PNG of the Power Management tab.) These options suggest that the NIC should be able to keep the Internet connection alive, even during sleep. So I don't know why I am experiencing a delay in re-establishing the connection.

Slow Boot Up - Screens (2) Flashing Static When Wake Up From Sleep

Sep 22, 2015

A couple of weeks ago my PC started having issues. It started by the screens (2) flashing static when I would wake it up from sleep. I would have to reboot to fix it. Then when I would reach the login screen and enter my password I would be greeted by a black screen with just a mouse cursor. I though it had froze, but it turns out if I wait 15-20 minutes the desktop would eventually load. I tried restoring from a previous point but it didn't work and caused more issues. Suddenly none of my apps nor the store worked.

I tried an image restore and it seems to have fixed my app issue, but I'm still having screen issues and a long boot time. If that wasn't frustrating enough, I tried to install the latest Nvidia drivers today and as soon as I begin installing I get the blue screen, it has to restart and I get this message: PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA. I upgraded to Windows 10 when it was first released and have had no issues up to this point. I'm wondering if this issue wasn't all caused when I installed the last set of Nvidia drivers they released on 8/31/15.

I've tried a sfc scannow and it came up with nothing.

My Build: Dell Inspiron 570, Windows 10, AMD Phenom II X2 560 (black edition) CPU, Nvidia GeForce GTX 650 TI GPU, 8BG RAM

Computer Extremely Slow?

Feb 12, 2016

Upon start up my computer is extremely slow and I get this message "cannot connect to Windows service". I can't open any of my documents or connect to google chrome. If I let it sit for about 10 minutes I can access google chrome and my files. I have taken the computer into the local computer fix it shop and they said there were a couple of broken registry paths, no malware and everything ran fine for them. The first couple of time I used the computer after getting it back home it worked great but now I'm back to square one. This is extremely frustrating.

Computer Too Slow To Enter Hibernate

Aug 23, 2015

My computer is too slow to enter hibernate in Windows 10, it works fine in Win 8.1.

When my PC enter hibernate, the screen turns black quickly, but I see that PC writing to the hiberfil.sys take 2-3 minutes, it's too long, in 8.1 it just takes a few seconds.

EDIT: Tried to disable and enable hibernate, and increase size of hiberfil.sys, and it seem to be faster, about 1 min, but it is still slow compared to 8.1.

Internet Speed Slow Only On One Computer After Update

Aug 4, 2015

After downloading Windows 10, my internet speed went significantly down, from 35 mbps to 4 mbps. I recovered my original Windows 8.1, hoping it was the new Windows that was causing the problem, but my computer is still very slow compared to what it used to be. I know the problem is in my computer because the three other PC's in my house are all working at normal speeds. I ran a virus scan with no luck. Could the Windows 10 upgrade have installed something that's still slowing down my internet?

Computer Running Extremely Slow After Windows Defender Download?

Dec 30, 2015

Windows 10 Home (1511)
64-BitOS

I've had Windows for a few months now and never really had an issue until the past few days. Overall CPU performance/speed is way down. Firefox freezes then recoops every 2-3 minutes, adobe plugin constantly crashing, even to do things offline is crazy slow.

I downloaded Windows Defender probably a week or 2 ago and that is the only big change that I know of done on this computer. I used to run Malewarebytes, SuperAnti-Spyware and Advanced Windows SystemCare. But was told that Advanced Windows SystemCare was the devil and to try TFC (temp file cleaner) & MyDefrag instead. So now i'm running;

Windows Defender
MalewareBytes (free)
SuperAnti-Spyware(free)
TFC
MyDefrag

Is this combination making my computer un usable? Or something else?

Computer Slow After Restart - Taking About 3 Minutes To Load Application

Aug 3, 2015

So I restarted my computer and router because my internet was being slower then usual. After I restarted my computer it took almost 30 secs to show the log in screen, that's the longest it's ever taken. After I log in it takes about 3 mins to load an application. Even when I attempted to open my windows setting it's slow. My computer is a gaming computer with an i7 and a gtx 970 with 16 gigs of dd3 ram.

Networking :: Internet Speed Slow On One Computer But Fine On The Rest Of Computers

Nov 2, 2015

I just updated to Windows 10 but I think the problem was with Windows 8 too, Sometimes my internet is out on my PC while the internet is still up on my brothers PC, tho this problem happens about 3 times a very few days.. We have 5+ computers in the house and 4 are on daily while 3 is being used daily the 4th one is not very used daily and sometimes off most of the time. So the 2 computers have Windows 10 and 3rd computer has Windows 7 while the 4th computer has Windows 10 also. I read on an article which says that Windows 10 uses bandwidth without you know and I checked task manager and on windows 8 my CPU and Memory was just fine and when I upgraded to Windows 10 my CPU spiked to about 20% and Memory spiked to about 72% and sometimes random numbers appear on all 4 sections( CPU, Memory, Disk, Network).

Performance :: Keyboard Repeat Rate Becomes (Slow) Every Time Computer Starts

Dec 6, 2015

I'm facing a very weird problem with Windows 10 on my new laptop. Every time I boot up or even wake from hibernate, my keyboard repeat rate gets reset to the slowest setting. I notice this only when I start using word or email.

The weirder thing is, in the keyboard settings window the setting would always be shown as "Fast", but actually it would be slow. To make it fast, I have to drag it to slow and then to fast again.

Computer Won't Sleep

Dec 15, 2015

When I first bought this desktop, after the prescribed amount of time of inactivity (it may be something like 15-20 minutes), the computer would go to sleep. As I've used it more, I've added a few different software items here and there.  This computer is mainly used for school and leisure work, so there are no "heavy duty" programs on there.  Recently, however, I've noticed that the computer will continue to stay on and the fan running (or something is humming) all of the time.  Is there a way to check what program may be running that makes the computer think there is activity, when there is none?

Sleep Just Shuts Down Computer?

Jan 19, 2016

After I upgraded from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10, my sleep feature quit working properly. There was a point in time a couple months back it did work, but since I hardly use it I didn't notice a problem. Recently I decided I'd start using it, and that's when I noticed the problem. When I go to sleep mode, it goes to sleep, but than when I bring it out of sleep mode it just restarts. I don't get any kind of error message at all, and as far as I can tell my power settings are set right. One suggestion I found suggested to revert my driver for Intel Management Engine Interface from version 10 or 11 to 9.5. I just reformat my hard drive and start over. I'm trying to avoid that at all costs. I see suggestions on the settings in BIOS. Which settings in particular should I look to change?

Computer Will Not Go To Sleep Automatically

Jan 25, 2015

It is fitting that I should start this discussion on the new Win10 site. With the latest update to 9926, I finally got the sleep menu to show up (updating the graphics driver) but the computer will not automatically go to sleep at the appropriate time. The other versions worked. I doubt this will last as I expect more updates to fix this but so far, the usual suspects have been tried and it is non functioning.

The sleep button and the power button set to sleep work fine. So far, nothing has woken it up but I have a sneaky suspicion that Homegroup now wakes up the computer when another machine asks for its shared folders.
