View 1 RepliesI have a Dell Latitute E5530 laptop that won't connect to my secured home SSID. I have 2 other laptops connected to it wireless, plus phones, plus 2 TV's (via a Roku and a Chromecast). I thought there might be a limit to what I can connect (i.e., 5 devices), however I brought home a 2nd laptop from work and that connected with no issue while the Dell Latitude still cannot. I don't even get the option to type in the Password Key, it simply says "Cannot connect to the network". I'm able to connect to an unsecured network with this same machine, no problem. I've tried reset the network adapter, I'm just stumped at this as to why this computer won't connect.
View 3 RepliesAs stated in the subject line I can't connect my Windows 7 Pro system to a Windows 10 Home system via the network without a password being required. Strangely, I can connect from the Windows 7 Pro system to two other Windows 7 Home Premium systems on the same network without a password being required.
Also, all these systems (including the Windows 10 Home system) can connect to the Windows 7 Pro system without any password being required. How I can eliminate the requirement for a password to access the Windows 10 Home system from the Windows 7 Pro system? The Windows 10 Home system version number is 1511, build 10586.0.
I have a home network with two computers running Windows 10 build 10130 and several computers running Linux.
Under Windows 7 and 8.1 all computers would connect to each other correctly for file and printer sharing.
Under Windows 10 I can only connect to the other Windows 10 computer.
I have checked out all settings in Advanced Sharing Settings.
Downloaded Windows 10 on my HP Pavillion Sleekbook 14 and was not able to connect to my home WiFi. Reinstalled 8.1 and all was back to normal. Is there a new network driver I should download?
View 1 RepliesI recently upgraded one of my laptops from Win7 Pro to Win10 Pro. Ever since then it has been taking a much longer time for the laptop to connect to either of my home networks (two different homes). This is with either WiFi or Ethernet.
When it was running Win7 it would connect to either home's network in a few seconds. Now it usually takes over a minute, as much as two minutes. Once it does connect everything works fine.
I successfully upgraded from Windows 8.1 to 10 last week. For the 1st time since the upgrade, I tried emptying my recycle bin. However, it *appears* to fail, in that the dialog box that pops up shows "Discovered 0 items (0 bytes)" indefinitely. More details shows the useless "Time remaining: Calculating" message, and nothing useful. The dialog box has been doing this for 2 hours; nothing has changed. It's neither discovered anything nor progressed. I am able to cancel the dialog box, but when I retry, it goes back to "discovering 0 bytes".
I'm on a pretty powerful Dell Inspiron 15R, 16GB RAM, Intel i7 CPU, 1 TB HDD, that's now running Windows 10 Home, 64-bit.
After latest W10 updates W10 computers can't see ANY other machines on my LAN.
2 Linux Machines, one W7, one XP and 2 W10 machines on a LAN.
Linux easily sees ALL computers and can access shared folders.
W7 and XP machines see All machines - Wndows and Linux. XP needs 128 bit encryption altered - no problem here though.
I've got both IVP4 and Ivp6 enabled.
W10 machines ONLY see their OWN individual machine -- nothing else -- not a sauasage.
The W10 machines can access PLEX and Logitech media servers running on Linux / Windows machines but the computers are missing.
Seriously MS Windows networking seems hosed up BIG TIME.
Note all these computers are on WIRELESS connections -- my Wireless speed is pretty good so not a problem for what I need.
C'mon ms - why is Windows Networking always a bit of hit and miss -- I've been using SAMBA on Linux for years and have never found any problem with Networking.
W7 is pretty good too (usually although I've had the odd rogue machine where networking seems to fail even though hardware and software is identical to another machine on network. W10 though while good in other things brings a whole slew of difficulty to networking. I shudder to think of what happens when I install a decent NAS this year.
I have a new Asus desktop running win 8.1 home. I also have a copy of win 8 pro with a legal upgrade key. Is it possible to upgrade the win 8.1 home to win 8 pro and then to win 10 and still be activated. If so, How do I proceed.
View 8 RepliesA lot of home videos that played well on Windows 7, are not showing up on Windows 10. Some play but are audio only. Seems a common complaint on-line.
View 1 Repliesadding a home key to the edge screen.how to do this? Is it even possible in 10.?
View 10 RepliesMy question is straightforward: is it possible to downgrade an edition from Windows 10 Pro to Windows 10 Home without having to clean reinstall? I've been wondering why my Win10 wouldn't activate itself until I realized I installed the wrong edition.
View 5 RepliesI had windows 7 n downloaded 10, everything went good until I logged in n the screen started flashing can't click on anything..
View 1 RepliesI'm having problems a PC that I upgraded to win 10. All seemed to work well until I did a clean install of Win 7 on my second PC and tried to reconnect the PCs via homegroup. As I began to setup the fresh Win 7 PC, I discovered I couldn't join the existing homegroup. Seemed reasonable, so I left all homegroups but found that the new homegroup on Win 7 couldn't be joined by Win 10 and I can't create one on Win 10. Network discovery is enabled on both but when I checked running services on Win 10, I found that Peer Network Grouping could not be started "on local machine" Error Code 1068). Network Discovery and IPv6 are enabled, etc.
In Network view, Win 7 can access the NAS as can Win 10, but they cannot access each other. I don't want to revert back to Win 7, but the thought of having to manage all file transfers through my NAS as an intermediary is undesirable. I should have added that I had run the troubleshooters on both PCs and no problems were found by either the network or homegroup troubleshooters. PC 1 is running Windows 7 Home Premium and PC 2 is Win 10 with all updates. When I first upgraded to Win 10 on PC 2, I was able to connect to homegroup, However, when I did a fresh install of Win 7 on PC 1, I have had this homegroup problem. As I recall this also affected my ability to share printer on Win 10 PC.
My sons computer has a legit copy of windows home but for some reason the installed version was 32 bit, I noticed later that the machine was x64 bit processor.
I installed windows ten prior to noticing the version, I would like to change it to x64 bit, I read a few threads on converting, I downloaded the x64 ISO and burnt it to a DVD.
I am not concerned about wiping the drive clean everything needed has been removed and copied.
I read about skipping the key as it is being installed and that a key would be issued by Microsoft based on the hardware of the machine.
I am curious, would the key for the original 32 bit installation be the one that would be inserted in the x64 bit install or would a different key be issued?
I upgraded mu Alienware M14 from 7 to 10 using the Media creation tool, and now have no WiFi. Ethernet and Bluetooth both show fine, and a wired connection works perfectly, however, not being able to use WiFi puts a damper on the portability of said laptop.
I've tried the reg delete method, which informs me the key is not found, there was no VPN software installed. I do show a network adaptor under unknown devices, but no matter which driver I choose, it is unable to start. Short of a clean installation, and the loss of personal files and/or hours restoring them or reinstalling.
After upgrading to windows 10 my network comes up as private when it should be "Home". I can't find any way to change it.
View 3 RepliesDo I need to install internet security on home desktop pc? If so. is a basic free antivirus enough?
View 1 RepliesI have an HP Pavilion with Windows 10. I'm pretty basic with computers, and I don't know how to make a home screen icon for a website. I go to a website that I like, usually on Chrome, and now I want it to be an icon so I can just click on it tomorrow.
View 1 RepliesI want to download an ISO for my friends computer. But all he is eligible for is Windows 10 home edition. Will the ISO that I download on my Windows 10 Pro work for his?
View 2 RepliesI just installed windows 10 but i can't work out how to play a dvd of home movies.
View 2 RepliesI have recently upgraded my workplace systems with windows 10. all the PC's except for one have been flawless. The last PC who created our homegroup has come up with an error. At first no matter what i did i couldn't get the other computers on the network to discover the PC even when connected to the homegroup. So i decided i would disconnect all the PC's from the homegroup and start again....
Once i had every PC left from the homegroup it now says the problem PC which created the homegroup in the first place is inviting me to join a homegroup!!! i now cannot connect even with the correct password and all the other PCS cannot connect to this ghost homegroup that no longer exists (or even the PC to that matter).
I have tried various fixes on the internet to no avail and i have used the method where you delete the files in C:WindowsService Profiles Local Service App DataRoamingPeerNetworking also to no avail... i now have every PC out of the homegroup and turned off and just this one PC.
Is this new on the Bing home page or has it been there for awhile? When you move your mouse on the web page a popup shows telling you about the Pic and a link to more pics.
View 7 RepliesI have a gaming machine at home that was running W7. I upgraded to W10. It went from W7 Ultimate to W10 Pro, which is fine. Not long after that, I ran into some issues that I was unable to correct, sfc /scannow was failing, and I couldn't get DISM to read the source files correctly to execute a repair.Repair Install Windows 10 with an In-place Upgrade
This was successful, and I thought I was on my merry way. Then after I was using it for a few minutes, it came up with a message that I didn't have an AV running. So, it pointed me to the AV control panel, but everything was greyed out. Then I went into update, and got the notorious "Some system settings are managed by your organization."I'm quite sure this is a group policy issue, but I'm confused as to why it just decided to clamp down on group policy when this machine isn't in a domain (it's in a workgroup). I then found some instructions that said to delete the GP directories and do "gpupdate /force". That didn't work either.
When ever I turn on my pc it shows this home screen, and if I access desktop by searching it a folder opens which contain desktop icon and even by pressing windows logo button it doesn't change to desktop but remains at that home screen. I am using different thing by Tab+Alt buttons.
Also you can see the task bar it has a strange view that was never before and see the bottom right corner it is strange! also by clicking the extreme bottom right corner I didn't reach the desktop. (Not even by pressing Windows logo+D button).
My wife doesn't use a password to log on to her Windows 10 PC. Her user name is her email address when the "Enter Network Credentials" window pops up when access is attempted from other computers. Her email password does not work here. We don't know what password it might be expecting. We've run NETPLWIZ on her machine and cleared the "users must enter a user name and password" box. This has no effect.
