Copying 7 GB File To 32 GB SD Card Not Allowed?
Nov 5, 2015
Even though I had only 1.3GB used on a 32GB SD card, I could not copy a 7GB file from my C-drive stating there was not enough free space. Why and what to do.
BTW - the sd card was NOT formated in FAT32 and was formated in the NTFS.

I'm trying to copy a ripped movie file (iso) from my G drive to desktop. The file is 45GB. It gets to 99% then a message comes up saying the process can't complete because the System has the file open. I have nothing running and can't find anything where the System is accessing/linking to this file.
I thought it might be a permissions issue, so I wanted to download the Reg edit to add a "take ownership" command but the TenFourms link is not working. Take Ownership - Add to Context Menu in Windows 10 <<<< won't open web page.
I ran sfc /scannow and there are some errors reported that could not be fixed. There is a CBS.log file but I have not looked at it yet.
I also ran the DISM /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth (I forget the full command line now) and it came back saying it could not find the files "online".

I am using Win10 10240. I have a problem copying a large number of big files. The setup is a bit tortuous.
The source is an old WD Cloud NAS on ethernet via my ethernet connected router. The destination is an external hard drive on USB3.0
Using file explorer, I drag a bunch of folders to the destination and copying begins but either stalls soon after or indeed never starts. When it works the speed is around 10Mp/s but why does it stall at random places?
I've tried just copying a single folder too. Single files are OK. I've looked at the resource monitor and so on and can't see anything odd although I'm no expert there.
I don't know of any other way to get these files across. The WD Cloud software is hopeless and not fit for purpose in my view. Would a command line xcopy batch file be better? Or third party stuff?

I have upgraded(?) from W8.1 to W10. I have a strange issue where I can't copy or open WAV file type files on SD or CF external cards. I have tried other file types and they open and copy ok. I am thinking this is something to do with windows file permissions but I am unsure where to find this to make the needed changes.
I get this message when I try:
"File Access Denied. You'll need to provide administrator permission to copy this file" ...

I have installed Windows10 on a Gateway FX530 desktop PC. All has gone well with one exception. The OS seems to recognize that there is a card reader attached, I can see them through Device manager. When I insert a SD card the system completely ignores the device and will not allow me to access it. I have tried to change the drivers, without success. This card reader worked just fine with Windows 7 Pro and there was no indication that they would not work with Windows 10 when I ran the upgrade test.

Installed Windows 10 yesterday and things are just not right. I am unable to reduce window size. If I hit the reduction icon with window just goes away. I am also not able to have more than one window open at a time. Since my taskbar is also broken, I have to go back to start and find the program and open it again.

Since I did clean install of Win 10 I find it will not allow me to boot to internal cd drive or USB drive. I know this is an attempt to secure the OS or lock you out of competing OS like linux or both but I can find no way around this. My bios has not been updated to the secure boot version on purpose but the OS still intercepts any attemp to boot to any device other than drive with OS on it.
My boot sequence is CD first but it is ignored on boot. Also if I go to boot device selection and select CD drive it still boots to win 10. I have tried win 10 setup but there is no option that i have found that allows me to do what I want with my own machine. I am a developer and routinely boot to cd and this behavior is unacceptable. I would like to use win 10 but have gone back to Win 7 until I can find out how to defeat this.

My PC had a problem installing Windows 10 and seems to have caused a bug that won't allow me to use my start menu (in Windows 10) and other things on my taskbar. After trying many "fixes" I have come to the conclusion that the only thing left for me to do is give my PC a reset and reinstall my operating system. I wish to keep all my files so I figured I should probably back them up. after backing up my current files on to a external hard drive, resetting my PC, reinstalling windows and then restoring the old files fix my problem if it was a problem with the installation or will it bring the installation problem with it?

I’ve been having trouble with my Windows 10 desktop resolution and icon placement, which started when I tried to change the resolution in an online game. I have a 4K monitor, which is set to 3840 x 2160, and it’s been a mess getting the screen to stay at that resolution. I think it’s stabilized now at that high rate, but I’m no longer able to place the icons in the locations on the screen that I want them. All the icons are gathered on the left side of the screen in no special order, and when I try to drag them to other spots on the screen, they just fly back to their original spot. I’m assuming that all this trouble I’m having is the result of persistent bugs in Windows 10, but is there any kind of fix to make sure that my resolution stays at 3840 x 2160, and that I can move my desktop icons the way I like?

I have already upgraded to WIN10 from WIN7 on my experimental desktop and then reverted back using the built in facility. Can you do this more than once if you keep on wanting to give it a go to see if bugs have been fixed or is this eventually going to cause issues with the license?

Basically, when I setup my system I run my primary user as an admin to install and set everything the way I like it. After a week or so I remove my primary user from the Administrators group. I then use the default Admin account (usually Administrator) to do any other major changes or installs.
I understand that he default administrator account is disabled by Windows and needs to be enabled, but my gripe is that windows has allowed my only active user, which happen to be in the local admin group, to remove it's own Administrative privilege.
Now I have a PC with one standard user and no way to enable my admin, or otherwise do any administrative actions.
HOW CAN I ENABLE ADMIN WHEN MY ONLY USER ISN'T AN ADMIN?
WHY WOULD WINDOWS ALLOW THIS TO OCCUR?
I've attached a couple screen shots showing my list of users, which will show the only active user and the other 3 disabled (icon shows down arrow); as well as my Administrator group showing the disabled Administrator user...which is disabled.
And I know I *should* have enabled the Administrator account BEFORE I removed my own admin...but I'm here now and need a fix.

I just bought my surface book. I am trying to partition my C Hard drive. I thought that I have to shrink it first, then create a partition. However, the shrink space allowed is only around 3 GB. My disk size is 512 GB.
I defragmented (or now called optimized) the C drive and retried it, but no use. I would like to create a new drive call it D, and leave C for windows only.

I am using Windows 10, and I am trying to copy one folder to another folder using File Explorer. If I click on a file folder, I find that the "Copy to" and "Move to" icons are both greyed out. The only option that I find available is the moving or copying of individual files. I need to move folders with a lot of files and sub-directories in them.

Is it at all possible to take the OS, already installed, from your PC and put it onto a USB? I plan on getting Windows 10, but want to be able to revert to Windows 7 if I don't like it. (I don't have the computers disks, as it was a hand-me-down birthday present from my older sister.)

I have a gaming rig I bought a month ago. It wasn't set up right, so I'm formatting the drives and starting from scratch. I'm trying to copy 60GB of stuff to a external drive before I wipe it. It's been going for about 6 hours now and stuck at 99%. It says that there is 0 bites remaining, and 25 seconds. It's stuck there and won't change. Should I just cancel it, because 0 bites are remaining I assume everything is there.

Is there a rugged copy program that can copy a partially corrupted file (*.mpg) from a CD/DVD onto your H/D? What happens is that when the normal windows copy operation encounters that portion of the DVD that is faulty, it tries over and over again (endlessly, it seems) and then just hangs and I have to reboot, forcing that irritating wait for it to scan the C and D drives on reboot. This occurs with any program I try that attempts to read the entire file from the DVD, such as PowerDVD, windows explorer copy, Media Player, windvd, dos copy, etc. I assume it is because a cluster with a faulty cyclic check is encountered, and the windows read operation can't just accept the data anyway and proceed, but, instead, keeps on trying to reread and getting the same cyclic error over and over again.
What I need is a read option that "accepts" the error, transfers the bad cluster as it came across (errors and all), and then continues until it reaches end of data. I get this when some of my home-recorded mpg movies hang up somewhere in the middle, but, if I know in advance and skip over the bad part, the remainder of the movie plays just fine. I need a program that will ignore the cyclic error and just go on. I know we had this back when I did mainframe programming (the ACCEPT option), so I wonder if there is any windows program that does the same for mpeg files on CD's or DVD"s.

I have noticed a bug in windows 10 home.Copying any file from/to a pen drive connected to my windows 10 PC is very slow. Transfer speed is 5mbps maximum.Same file is transferring at normal speed(20-25mbps) when I transfer it within local drives(i.e. D drive to E drive) Hence I can say, transfer is slow in case of PC and Pen drive ONLY.
P.S:
1) Same pen drive is working perfectly in another PC having windows 8.1 running.
2) Drivers are up to date.
3) I upgraded(not done clean install) from Windows 10 insider preview to Windows 10 home.

I tried updating my Win8.1 to Win10 twice.
The first time, it hung at 26% total, 89% copying files. Then it bricked my system completely so I made a clean install of Windows 8.1. There was nothing else installed than Windows & Updates.
Tried to update it with a stick made by the Media Creation Tool --> Stuck at 23%, 77% copying files.
I tried everything: Disabled Network Adapter, pulled all Cables (only mouse left) out, I also detached my second HDD.
I am trying to install Win10 on my SSD (Samsung 830 Pro, 130GB). I am running a Z77 Chipset.
I'd love to install completely new with the Image but that doesn't work because of the activation later on..
I'm stuck with a fresh Windows 8.1 install now, that's not really what I wanted. I'd love to update to 10 since I had it as a Insider too.
