Corrupted Upgrade Process?
Jul 30, 2015
My desktop PC upgraded to Windows 10 yesterday morning--very smoothly, no problems. My laptop, though, has shown no sign of upgrading yet. What's more, when I click on "Learn More" in the upgrade window, nothing happens now. Before yesterday, it went through graphics of the upgrade process. Did my upgrade get corrupted somehow? How do I delete everything concerning upgrading and start the process again?

I have been struggling for a month now trying to fix my system, I have installed a windows seven then migrated to 10 but the issue I'm about to talk about has been happening since day one of me acquiring the new rig.
- Everything freezes
- Blue screen
- Varying problem. Either CRITICAL_PROCESS_DIED or UNEXPECTED_STORE_ERROR and a couple others.
What I did so far:
- Checked driver updates.
- SFC /SCANNOW.
- Reinstalled system.
What I suspect and hope it is not:
- CPU hardware malfunction.
- SSD hardware malfunction.
- Windows needs a good beating.
I have included the Dxdiag.text file and the CBS.log file.

I accidentaly shutted down the Lenovo Yoga tablet 2 8" Windows 8.1 during Win10 update. The system won't boot and I don't know what to do. Recovery partition is also corrupted.
What I've tried so far:
1) Install clean Win10 x86 Home copy using Microsoft Media tool - Windows will be installed, but touchscreen, sound etc. doesn't work. Windows Update is unable to find and install those drivers
2) Install clean Win 8.1 x86 Enterprise copy using Microsoft Media tool, then in repair mode try to switch Windows.old Windows, Users and Program Files with current system - doesn't work, the system won't boot and everytime I try to boot the system, it tries to repair system. Without success of course.
Download Windows 8.1 with Bing x86 in hope the system will be in the same condition as I bought it. I also hope it will find required drivers.

I seem to have an issue with one of my system processes using up an inordinate amount of RAM. It isn't causing a lot of issues right now, but it definitely bogs things down here and there. Pictures are of my task manager window on relevant tabs.
[URL] .....
Seems to get worse when I play games. Updated to the Win 10 version of my latest graphics driver (clean install on the driver), and I have restarted my computer multiple times.

I want to try my first Win10 upgrade on a seldom used "backup" PC. This PC is usually turned off. I bring it up for a couple hours each week to update malware definitions, apply maint, etc. In the Win 7 Task Scheduler I currently have gwx disabled. (I have it disables on 2 other Win7 boxes, too.) I assume my first step towards a Win10 update is to re-enable and start gwx. Hopefully that will let me request a Win10 update. (If it doesn't, I'm going to have more questions. )
But then what? I never really understood what would happen next. Does update start as soon as I request it, or does Microsoft schedule the download for some later date - sometime when the PC is likely to be shut off. All the doc I had read seemed to imply a later download, but all of the doc was written for pre-July 29 "reservation". how it works now?

I am one of pioneer users of windows 10. Now I was suggested to upgrade to PRO version. Trying to do so the process was very long and was stuck at 47% of it...after few hours switched off my PC. Lucky after 5 min computer managed to restore my last version....I didn't give up and after few hours tried again and reached same point of 47% done..

I'm finding that my clean install of W10/64 gets corrupted "Store" and "Edge" taskbar icons if it's been running for any length of time or if I've been gaming. I haven't tried to troubleshoot or isolate the cause. I've only taken note of the problem. Shrug.
A reboot cleans them up.
Edge has white behind the "e". Store is just a white square. My other taskbar icons are good. See the pic.

Following the November update (not necessarily caused by it) my Desktop calendar has become drastically corrupted. Among the symptoms are: it closes frequently, it will not let me edit or delete entries, it has replicated past entries in large numbers which I am not able to delete, most options / settings are unavailable ------ in short it is a useless mess.
I wanted to uninstall and re-install, something which often sorts a failing app out ---- but uninstall is not available. Except that it can be done (I have read) via CCleaner. Unfortunately, (a) it is displayed as Mail and Calendar, and I do not want to uninstall Mail (b) I do not know if I am able to uninstall Calendar, will I be able to re-install it?

My daughters hard drive was failing, so I used SystemRescueCD to pull everything from the drive to another one. The problem I am having is getting permission to access her user folder on the drive. It denies me access and directs me to the security tab to get permission, but when I try this, it starts giving me errors from corrupted files in that folder, and won't give me permission. I also tried using this program: [URL] .... but it still asks for permission. Is there a way around this to access the files to see if I can pull off any uncorrupted ones?

I record with Fraps and I do Minecraft videos on YouTube. Besides the point. Sometimes, not all the time, but more times than not. When I replay the clip to myself to check it out. It says "Windows Media Player encountered a problem while playing the file" But it only happening for about a second in the file. If I just skip to the second after the part where it stops it keeps playing. I tried running it through DivXRepair, but no luck. It is a really big issue and causes me to loose very good footage because I can't even edit it out because Movie Maker won't accept the files that are messed up.
I can't really call them corrupted because it's only that second it's not the whole file itself. How I record my videos is in 1080p 60fps, and the video file is recorded to a a Toshiba External hard drive through a USB 3.0 PCI Express port. Maybe it's because the file has to travel through that, but I forgot to mention it sometimes happens multiple times on a video making me wonder if it is because sometimes the USB pauses and desyncs stuff and it causes that second to be lost.

I recently screwed up my main HDD through EASEUS as the HDD cannot boot anymore (all files still work fine though)
So instead, I got a SSD and installed Windows 8. Throughout my use, I noticed that on boot, it often conflicts with the corrupted HDD which has Windows 10. Whenever I try to install windows 10, I get an error that my PC needs to be repaired. I assume this is from my corrupted Windows 10.
I checked the BIOS for boot order, but neither my SSD nor HDD is listed, and is instead listed as "Windows Boot Manager". So, how do I disable this corrupted HDD from attempting to boot up?

As others have noted, the bundled Microsoft People app tried to update this morning, but mine failed (as per reliability history). After that, clicking on the People app icon failed to launch the app.
So I decided to try and uninstall the app in order to reinstall it from the windows app store. Using powershell in admin mode, I think I managed to uninstall it, but perhaps not completely. Now the app icon has gone from All Apps, but searching for people finds something called @ {Microsoft.people_10.0.3450 ... etc.
Also, finding the People app in the Store says that it's already installed.
How to I properly clear it off my system and reinstall it properly? I know it might not be the best contacts app out there, but it's OK and right now it's a mess that I want to try to sort out...

I notice that after i run these commands in powershell or cmd:
sfc /scannow, DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth, Get-AppXPackage -AllUsers | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register "$($_.InstallLocation)AppXManifest.xml"} .
and run sfc /scannow again, I always get this. It seems like my windows is always corrupted and I think that is causing my to get start menu, search menu, and task bar issues after stand by. What's wrong with my computer?
I have to do a clean install apparently, also the command broke my apps.
Get-AppxPackage -AllUsers| Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register $($_.InstallLocation)AppXManifest.xml}

Out of habit I ran SFC scan after finishing Win10 upgrade & Windows Updates and found out that MicrosoftEdgeSquare44x44.scale-125_contrast-white.png is corrupted. After a quick google search, seems there a few other Win10 users with the same problem.Neither SFC or DISM seem to be able to fix the problem.I also saw someone mention this is a 'false positive' hash mismatch but at least in my case the image really is corrupted (as in, if I open it in a image editor, it fails with corrupted image error). All other Edge images in the folder open correctly in image viewer.
how to repair systemapp files? I'm assuming DISM/SFC fail because the system apps seem to be different from regular system files (e.g. you cannot find them on the install media from what I can see).

I am getting the above message when in plug an external HDD via USB. Checking this out forum I Have tried Chkdsk commands at cmd prompt:
chkdsk f: /r
chkfdsk /f f:
for both I get the same reply: "Type of file is NTFS. Unable to determine volume and version state"
This external HDD is my backup and I would like to get it back. If possible with data, if this is not possible just back so that I can re use it.

I just moved from 64 bit Windows 7 to 10 so I backed everything on my 4TB Seagate Backup Plus external drive. I also have Carbonite so all is not lost if it comes to that. I made a base Image using Macrium Reflect that I still would like to get back though.
Anyway the drive was working fine until I remotely (from my chair downstairs) was doing things on my PC. I occasionally take over my computer remotely if I'm watching tv and remember I need to do something. So I was in the process of moving files from the Backup Plus to Windows 10 that's when the drive locked up. I went upstairs and got on my computer and found out Windows 10 was now not recognizing the Backup Plus. Rebooting didn't work so I shut the drive off overnight and plugged it back in today but now get "The file or directory is corrupted and unreadable".
Disk Management shows ok and I ran Seagate's SeaTools for Windows in "Short Drive Self Test" mode and it also shows 'Pass".
I tried Recuva and a scan showed a lot of files but I'm not exactly sure how to use this... I set option to scan for undeleted files. I then made a folder on my C drive desktop to dump everything but then it says "These file names are too long to be recovered to the selected destination (634). Do you want to change the destination folder." Anyway so where is it wanting me to put everything?
What are the steps (and software) I should be doing to (1) recover my files and (2) what I need to do to use the Backup Plus drive again.

My drivers failed to install correctly, my computer black-screened during the install of them when I was using Driver Booster. Now my PC isn't detecting my second HDD. It is in BIOS, but not in Device Manager. It is not showing up in all utilities, even if I show hidden ones. The stupid program didn't create a backup and I can't tell for sure what drivers it has broken.
I think some were Human Interface Devices, Universal Serial Bus Controllers, some SATA controllers and some others, can't tell. It also isn't showing up where you format and partition drives, windows just straight up can't detect that it is connected. I have tried Windows Repair, didn't work. I can't find any info, I don't have a way to roll-back. Will resetting my PC even work? Now I can't access my main drive, how can I reset these basic drivers without being able to rollback? I have seen some mention of uninstalling drivers such as...
"I had similar problem with my added disk drive when I upgraded. I had to go to device manager IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers and delete all ATA channels, back out and restart. Let Windows find all ATA devices and there were both my disk drives.."
But I am not certain whether it is safe to uninstall that driver or others. All my files are on that drive. My PC now cant detect my on-board SSD too and it cannot detect my CD-ROM too. Would resetting my BIOS reset the those base drivers?
