I cannot get any audio from Cortana. If I remember correctly, "Hey Cortana" would initiate a chime, and asking about weather would prompt her to audibly tell me the weather (albeit only in San Fransico). It worked for me in build 9926, but it has not worked in 10041 nor in 10049.
Cortana has worked fine for a few days, and then I stopped using her for a while, she was responding to my voice and "Hey Cortana"...
Now she doesn't respond to that, but I have to click on the mic icon and then I ask, and after that she responds to 'Hey Cortana" as well... I didn't change any settings or anything like that?
Now it seems that when I ask anything, she says something like "sorry, me and internet aren't talking right now" . I have switched from my Wi-Fi to my Ethernet connection few days ago, my router died .. and this seems to happen once only also...after that, she responds fine....
I upgraded to 10 from 8.1 on Friday and everything worked great. Suddenly, on the following Monday afternoon Windows began to act up. Either at the desktop or while in a game, suddenly the start menu and Cortana will stop responding. Usually shortly thereafter Explorer will stop responding, as well.
If I hover over items on the start bar - buttons, Cortana search, pinned applications, the system tray - the item will highlight like I can interact with it. But when I click, nothing happens. The start menu won't open, Cortana won't open, applications won't start, etc.
This seems to happen between thirty and forty-five minutes after booting up. I checked the event logs for Application, Security and System; there are critical errors but after spending a few hours following up, those don't seem to be related at all. I did not drill down any further than those logs.
I've attempted the solution at the following link, without any success. [URL] / I've also attempted a system restore to the previous day when everything was still working, but again, no luck.
I thought I would check with W10 forum on a issue that started yesterday Monday. I have had much success in resolving various glitches since installing W10 from W8.1 on this site. Suddenly, irrespective of which web site ie: msn, local news feed page, yahoo etc, that I go to I am getting on the bottom left an indication that "web is not responding" and on the right hand bottom "Recover page". I am not certain if this a W10 glitch or something else that causing my inability to access various web pages. I have another lap top that I upgraded to W10 from W7 that is functioning properly.
When I try to go to a web page, Target for example. I get the web page for about 5 or 6 seconds then a white screen and the message " web page not responding" after I reload the same message. After 3 tries I get a page from Microsoft telling me they will not try anymore to prevent a cycle. This happens ABOUT 98% OF THE TIME. Also..running w/o add ons..I have reset I.E...Cleared caches..deleted history, cookies, ect. Have tried debugging on and off. Restarted in safe mode with no change. Tried Chrome..no change. I'm lost...I can use a Forex web page so I'm happy with that. However it would be mniocve to see news or ANY web page for a change.
When I right click in certain areas on my computer, I get a Not Responding error. This happens with my mouse and trackpad when I right click, so it's my computer and not mouse. For example:
Applies to: - Desktop folders/icons/files. When my desktop stops responding, it flashes white, refreshes, and it's fine. - Any folder or white space in any of my folders
Doesn't apply to: - Browser (Chrome) - Desktop empty space (right clicking on my desktop, not any icons)
I've been running Windows 10 myself for a few days. My girlfriend for a few weeks/months. We noticed a small something that is not much but is getting on the nerve after a while.
We lock our computer or put them to sleep and when trying to get from the lock screen to the login screen, nothing is happening. We wait a few moment and everything is fine. Here is a few cases...
I'm at the lock screen. Click the mouse or hit a key. Nothing. Try a few times and I get to the login screen.
Another case : From the lock screen, hit a key on the keyboard multiple time and nothing. Click the mouse once and it's ok.
Everything work fine after that and it's no big deal but whe having to do this game a few times each days it's start to get on the nerve. Sometimes it's fine and we get to the login screen right away.
In my case it's a brand new install and in the case of my girlfriend it's an upgrade from 8.1.
I set up a "shutdown" shortcut on my desktop that calls "shutdown.exe" and almost every time after I click on the shortcut I see a message dialog box that saying explorer is not responding and it takes a while for that dialog box to close and then finish shutting off the computer.
I've noticed this also happens when using the start menu->power->shutdown.
All started fine on Saturday but by this morning Outlook 2010 wouldn't open, Word 2010 no response, Nitro Pro v10 no response - impossible trying to work so I went back to Windows 8.1!

Steam, games, task manager seem to be the most affected. They typically stop responding for 2 minutes or so and then start back up. Steam in particular is awful, it closes, runs in the background, but I can't physically open it. I have to open task manager (which in turn doesn't respond), end all steam related processes, and then re-open Steam. This doesn't work most of the time, and restarting is the only option.
Restarting often brings issues with not shutting down. I get a grey screen and have to manually restart my pc. I've noticed this issue occurs more frequently when I have a Windows Update.
I have downloaded windows 10 successfully. However, when I try to create a 'new folder' in Documents, the Documents window puts out a message "not responding".
I can create a 'new folder' on my desktop and put it in the Documents folder, but I cannot use the "new folder" icon in the Quick Access bar to create one in the Documents folder itself. Am I failing to see something I should have done?
I installed windows 10 on my machine last week which went fine with no errors. Since then, I have come into work everyday and found the computer idling at the login screen, flashing and not responding. Just a constant flashing until I turn it off. Because of this I've had to reset windows under the troubleshoot option on start up. Safe mode doesn't work, and back up restore doesn't either. I wanted to add that I don't receive an error code or message.
I went to customize the bar but when I clicked on "Customize Quick Access Toolbar" nothing happens. All I can do is add or delete the six options that is presented. I previously customized it and used that a lot! It is a deal breaker for me. Any work around or should a buy CD and reinstall 8.1 which came on the machine?
Yesterday, on w.10 upgrade, everything was fine - after a few scares. Using Office 2010 and all was working as normal. Today I am unable to print anything from Outlook, tells me it's not responding. Word won't open at all. Excell will open but won't print. Tried troubleshooting from within W.10 but nothing works.
I have 3 flash drives that, for some reason, no longer function regardless of which USB port they are attached to. They display as if they are ready but indicate "not responding" as soon as I try to access them. I see message "not migrating" under Events in their properties. This is a problem that has just arisen. I've been running Windows 10 since official release.
W10 startmenu and some features in the taskbar (search, sound icon, wifi icon, battery icon, notification system, "search pc & web") seems to be unresponsive. not sure if it is like this for all but i tried restarting the pc numerous times and also attempted to find any after-release articles but i couldnt find any.
Windows 10 no "More Options" selection when a program is not responding, can I re-enable it? I game a lot and with some games that require lots of resources, sometimes while loading it will not respond, but on windows 7 i had the possibility to click something on the lines of "More Options" and i could see what the problem was.
Such as Apphang or Appcrash or other things like that. Is there anyway to re-enable this on windows 10, I upgraded strait from windows 7 to 10 without wiping HDD.
I encountered a problem multiple times now on Win10. The issue is that sometimes a game will stop responding, the real problem is that by then i can not alt+tab. The window keeps overlapping everything else, so i have to restart my PC everytime it happens.
I have found that windows 10 freezes up when attempting to right click on a file. Example of this is when I right click on a photo folder to rename them. I get the circle and it then goes to not responding. then I have to force quit.
I recently updated to windows 10 and I have been loving it. But today, most windows have begun to flash not responding when I interact with them (ie clicking, typing). This doesn't happen all the time but enough to interrupt my work. If you need any files or anything, just ask.
Since yesterday i keep getting this message and image screws up, sometimes the pc restarts, i downloaded the lastest nvidia drivers and updated windows.
So I'm having a neat issue with Windows 10 that involves my desktop/file explorer to stop working on a right click. So pretty much what is happening is whenever I click an icon on my desktop (except for the recycle bin) I get the loading circle and then if you click somewhere or open a program and then go back to the desktop it will flash whatever color you have set as the theme color (for me a blue and it did the same when it was red) and then go back to the desktop and all icons are moved back to their very original positioning (right under each other).
Then for the file explorer (I think it would still be called file explorer when in a folder) when you have a folder open and you try to right click something in the folder it does the same and says the folder is not responding and will close it. Now if you have a folder open and you do the right click on the a desktop icon and it does the refresh thing it will also close any folders you have open. Not programs, just folders and if I have music playing or anything it doesn't skip or pause that either.
As for what I've tried there was a video on Youtube that had you go into the Shellex folder in RegEdit and delete some folders but that didn't fix anything. I also tried downloading ShellExView and disabling all 3rd party context menu editors (There were only two, Avast! and WinRar) and that changed nothing as well.
As for my actual PC I have: GPU: GTX 980ti CPU: i7-4790k OS: Windows 10
I've had this issue for a while now because I assumed it was just a Windows 10 bug and would get fixed but it hasn't yet so now it's just annoying. I'm not sure if I even installed something right before it started happening because it had to be about a month ago if not more. I really don't want to have to do a clean install because I have TERRIBLE internet and it would take over a week of straight downloading to get all my games and what not downloaded again.
I should probably also add that I have a Corsair K70 RGB Keyboard and the lighting resets to the basic rainbow setting when it freezes. But I haven't tried uninstalling that or anything.
I need to login to my PC, but I don't have access to a physical keyboard right now. I try to use the OSK, but when I click on the ease of access button on the login screen, it pretends like I clicked it, but does nothing. How can I fix this? I rebooted, but that did nothing.
Edit: I did want to mention that I have access to a laptop, also Win10, and fully functioning. If that means anything. At this point, I just really HATE technology right now.
Edit 2: I've unplugged everything aside from my mouse, power supply, and HDMI. No dice.
Edit 3: I tried to access the ease of access menu on my laptop, but the same lack of response is observed. Maybe an issue with the OS itself?
I have restarted my pc at least more than ten times today so just i can connect for 10 or 15 minutes at once. this is the message from my connection trubleshooting: website (Microsoft Corporation) is online but isn't responding to connection attempts. I have tried resetting the internet through command prompt and by following youtube videos but it did not work. I've been having this problem for at least 2 days already.
