Cortana has worked fine for a few days, and then I stopped using her for a while, she was responding to my voice and "Hey Cortana"...
Now she doesn't respond to that, but I have to click on the mic icon and then I ask, and after that she responds to 'Hey Cortana" as well... I didn't change any settings or anything like that?
Now it seems that when I ask anything, she says something like "sorry, me and internet aren't talking right now" . I have switched from my Wi-Fi to my Ethernet connection few days ago, my router died .. and this seems to happen once only also...after that, she responds fine....
I cannot get any audio from Cortana. If I remember correctly, "Hey Cortana" would initiate a chime, and asking about weather would prompt her to audibly tell me the weather (albeit only in San Fransico). It worked for me in build 9926, but it has not worked in 10041 nor in 10049.
I upgraded to 10 from 8.1 on Friday and everything worked great. Suddenly, on the following Monday afternoon Windows began to act up. Either at the desktop or while in a game, suddenly the start menu and Cortana will stop responding. Usually shortly thereafter Explorer will stop responding, as well.
If I hover over items on the start bar - buttons, Cortana search, pinned applications, the system tray - the item will highlight like I can interact with it. But when I click, nothing happens. The start menu won't open, Cortana won't open, applications won't start, etc.
This seems to happen between thirty and forty-five minutes after booting up. I checked the event logs for Application, Security and System; there are critical errors but after spending a few hours following up, those don't seem to be related at all. I did not drill down any further than those logs.
I've attempted the solution at the following link, without any success. [URL] / I've also attempted a system restore to the previous day when everything was still working, but again, no luck.
I am using HyperX Cloud II headset and it's been working perfectly for about a month but this morning it isn't working. I have set it as the default device in playback and recording in the audio settings.
I don't know if this is only me or not, but my Voice Recorder app cannot be started. Here I included all the screenshots of the weird behavior of this Voice Recorder app in Store page.
At first, when I search Voice Recorder and open the store page, it will show downloading, then after that an update button appear, after I click that update button it will show small download icon at the top left side of my account profile picture. After a short while it'll disappear and still Voice Recorder app cannot be opened. This weird behavior keep repeating every time I open the Voice Recorder store page.
How do I get Word 2013 to do voice recognition. I don't really want to use Contra if that is avoidable. I think Contra uses Edge and Norton does not want me to do that.
I record videos sometimes with this just for fun but it seems every time i watch them, it never records my voice. It records literally everything else playing on my computer (even other people's voices) but not my voice. My headset has a mic on it and it works so I don't know what would be wrong.
I am plugging earbuds with a microphone into my computer. (I have tried every 3.5mm port on the computer and speakers, none work). Where ever I plug them in I get a notification saying something was plugged in. Can hear sound out of the headphones only when plugged into the speakers but I can not record voice audio.
So today my mic suddenly stopped working. It no longer picks up my voice, but instead if I log on to Skype, Mumble or other voice communication services I constantly transmit any sound currently going through my PC, be that music, youtube videos, game sounds or anything else.I've checked that my mic is set to the correct default device and I've even tried uninstalling and reinstalling all sound related drivers.
The problem came out of the blue. It was fine yesterday and then today when I booted up and logged on to Skype to talk to a friend he couldn't hear anything until I started playing some music which he said he could hear as if he was playing it himself. So it's not just the mic picking up sounds from my headset (which wouldn't make sense anyway since it won't pickup my voice). I then tried to do a Skype test call with some music running in the background and as I expected the playback was the part of the song that had been running during the test call. So basically as stated my computer is suddenly transmitting sounds as if they are being given as input through the mic and no longer registers any outside sounds like my voice, or any background noise in the room etc through the mic.I also know it isn't the mic itself that is the problem as I tried hooking it up to my laptop and it worked perfectly fine there.
In my windows10 the file for the voice recorder is located in One Drive. I would like to change that location which I did drag and drop it into my document folder but the file is still located in the One Drive folder and new recordings do not get stored into my recording folder in documents. How do you change the default file location for the voice recorder, and stop recording going to One Drive.
Whenever I use my in-game voice chat, my game freezes for a random period of time. It's gotten to the point where sometimes my game may freeze for up to five minutes before finally recovering. It's in every single game I play. In rocket league today, whenever I used the voice chat, the connection issues symbol came up and I froze. However, subsequent uses of voice chat for a short period of time after the initial freeze won't freeze the game. I would also like to point out that the game sound loops for the duration of the freeze. I thought I cleared it up last night and then it came back? I noticed that as well when you go to the setting in steam to test the mic after you hit the stop testing mic button it loops. As well the playback setting in windows when you go to the mic locks up for a few. I have tried this as well
Well I tried uninstalling all of the sound drivers and let them reinstall and still did the same thing. I manually installed the realtek driver and it seemed to fix it but when I shut down my pc it started again. I then tried this whole run. Press Windows key + X
Click Command Prompt (Admin)
Type in at the prompt OR Copy and Paste these one at a time : (Hit enter after each)
Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth When the procedures are complete exit the command prompt:
Next, do the following:
Right click on the start button and click Command Prompt (admin) Click Yes
Type: cleanmgr.exe
That seemed to fix it for a night again then turned off the pc and it happened again. Then I was told to try quiet hours and it fixed it then another shut down to leave and back again. So I am still at square one I am sure it's a windows 10 issue as it's only when it's on steam and when I go into recording devices it freezes up there to and if I try to kill the close the window it gives me this Windows shell common dll is not responding then it asks me do I want to close the program or wait for it to respond.
Does the new Maps app being built for the phone and PC features voice turn-by-turn navigation? I know the current Maps app does not. You need to use Here Drive or another third party app for voice navigation.
I thought I would check with W10 forum on a issue that started yesterday Monday. I have had much success in resolving various glitches since installing W10 from W8.1 on this site. Suddenly, irrespective of which web site ie: msn, local news feed page, yahoo etc, that I go to I am getting on the bottom left an indication that "web is not responding" and on the right hand bottom "Recover page". I am not certain if this a W10 glitch or something else that causing my inability to access various web pages. I have another lap top that I upgraded to W10 from W7 that is functioning properly.
When I try to go to a web page, Target for example. I get the web page for about 5 or 6 seconds then a white screen and the message " web page not responding" after I reload the same message. After 3 tries I get a page from Microsoft telling me they will not try anymore to prevent a cycle. This happens ABOUT 98% OF THE TIME. Also..running w/o add ons..I have reset I.E...Cleared caches..deleted history, cookies, ect. Have tried debugging on and off. Restarted in safe mode with no change. Tried Chrome..no change. I'm lost...I can use a Forex web page so I'm happy with that. However it would be mniocve to see news or ANY web page for a change.
When I right click in certain areas on my computer, I get a Not Responding error. This happens with my mouse and trackpad when I right click, so it's my computer and not mouse. For example:
Applies to: - Desktop folders/icons/files. When my desktop stops responding, it flashes white, refreshes, and it's fine. - Any folder or white space in any of my folders
Doesn't apply to: - Browser (Chrome) - Desktop empty space (right clicking on my desktop, not any icons)
I've been running Windows 10 myself for a few days. My girlfriend for a few weeks/months. We noticed a small something that is not much but is getting on the nerve after a while.
We lock our computer or put them to sleep and when trying to get from the lock screen to the login screen, nothing is happening. We wait a few moment and everything is fine. Here is a few cases...
I'm at the lock screen. Click the mouse or hit a key. Nothing. Try a few times and I get to the login screen.
Another case : From the lock screen, hit a key on the keyboard multiple time and nothing. Click the mouse once and it's ok.
Everything work fine after that and it's no big deal but whe having to do this game a few times each days it's start to get on the nerve. Sometimes it's fine and we get to the login screen right away.
In my case it's a brand new install and in the case of my girlfriend it's an upgrade from 8.1.
I set up a "shutdown" shortcut on my desktop that calls "shutdown.exe" and almost every time after I click on the shortcut I see a message dialog box that saying explorer is not responding and it takes a while for that dialog box to close and then finish shutting off the computer.
I've noticed this also happens when using the start menu->power->shutdown.
All started fine on Saturday but by this morning Outlook 2010 wouldn't open, Word 2010 no response, Nitro Pro v10 no response - impossible trying to work so I went back to Windows 8.1!

Steam, games, task manager seem to be the most affected. They typically stop responding for 2 minutes or so and then start back up. Steam in particular is awful, it closes, runs in the background, but I can't physically open it. I have to open task manager (which in turn doesn't respond), end all steam related processes, and then re-open Steam. This doesn't work most of the time, and restarting is the only option.
Restarting often brings issues with not shutting down. I get a grey screen and have to manually restart my pc. I've noticed this issue occurs more frequently when I have a Windows Update.
I have downloaded windows 10 successfully. However, when I try to create a 'new folder' in Documents, the Documents window puts out a message "not responding".
I can create a 'new folder' on my desktop and put it in the Documents folder, but I cannot use the "new folder" icon in the Quick Access bar to create one in the Documents folder itself. Am I failing to see something I should have done?
I installed windows 10 on my machine last week which went fine with no errors. Since then, I have come into work everyday and found the computer idling at the login screen, flashing and not responding. Just a constant flashing until I turn it off. Because of this I've had to reset windows under the troubleshoot option on start up. Safe mode doesn't work, and back up restore doesn't either. I wanted to add that I don't receive an error code or message.
