View 10 RepliesI originally purchased Windows 8 and upgraded to 8.1. I installed the Windows 10 upgrade via the downloadable Windows 10 Installation Tool and burning the ISO to a DVD. I understand that this will work to upgrade my system should I need to recover but will this still work after the 1 year free upgrade period? Also, how to confirm if the ISO downloaded via the Installation Tool will work as a repair disk to recover using a system image? If that's the case I would be content with that, as it's how I've always done backups since Windows 7.
View 6 RepliesThis worked for me a few weeks back. Today I am looking to try to reload Windows 10 on one of my desktop PC's that has just never been right after upgrade from Windows 7. I figured, trying a clean install is in order. The trouble is, as of today, the MediaCreationTool is not working for me. I get the same error on all 3 of my Windows 10 computers: "Setup couldn't start properly. Please restart your PC and try again." I can say that the mediacreationtool worked splendidly a few weeks back, but I have already repurposed that jump drive so the media is no longer in tact.
Specifically, the tools on this page are not working for me: [URL] ...
My PC's have always been real smooth, but now all three are just not quite 'right'. Mouse disappearing hear and there while I am dragging it. Pauses before I can type, etc. Just weird random anomalies that are far from normal.
When trying to create Windows 10 installation media on a USB drive with media creation tool, despite having a 16gig USB drive plugged in and recognized by my laptop it's not being recognized by media creation tool..(refresh does nothing)
Question #1..does this USB drive need to be empty with no other files on it whatsoever?
Question #2..this USB drive was formatted in Windows 7 initially,do I need to reformat it now in Windows 10?
Question #3...Why the heck am I doing this on a relaxing Sunday afternoon??..??

View 1 RepliesI currently have Windows 8.1 Pro installed on my laptop and in the process of doing a clean install of Windows 10 Pro. Unfortunately the Media Creation Tool used for creating a Windows 10 ISO doesn't provide me with the option to choose the Pro version of W10 the only two options being Windows 10 and Windows 10 (N).
From browsing about I've learned that the Media Creation Tool is supposed to detect what Windows version you have installed and give the proper options, but I've double checked and my computer does indeed have W8.1 Pro installed on it. What I must do to install the Pro version of W10?
I am running Windows 10 Pro x64 that I installed as a full version (not from the free update, I purchased the full edition from Microsoft).Whenever I get a new OS I like to do a clean install so I used the Microsoft Media Creation Tool which I downloaded from this page. I used the Media Creation Tool to install the OS (wiped and created new partitions, installed the OS, etc.).
Now with this nightmare update they just released (Version 1511) I am having SO many issues. I would like to do another fresh install of this new version. If I use the Media Creation Tool again to create an USB installer will it contain this latest version (i.e. I won't have to go through the whole update process again)? Or does the Media Creation Tool only create a USB installer that contains the "base" operating system which will required updates all over again? If not, how can i create an installer for Version 1511 so that I can avoid the pain of updating?
I am currently running Win7 Ultimate service pack 1 and am trying to create an installation of Win10 on a flash drive before I replace some parts inside my PC that will require an OS refresh. Unfortunately I am stuck at this screen.
I am sure my OS version is activated and I have extracted my windows key via Magical Jelly Bean finder but it rejected that key.
P.S. any PC stats linked to this account are a different piece of hardware
Before you answer this i would also like to know if there is any way to upgrade from windows 7 enterprise? If there isnt can you tell me why this wont move its been on 0% for 2 hours now!
View 4 RepliesTried using DDU and it asked to enter safe mode, went to safe mode, it then said "insert bootable media" and I tried to select it from BIOS but I could never get to BIOS because my mouse and keyboard controls were dead. Nothing I've done (plugging, unplugging) has fixed this issue. How to fix this.

Recently I am notice Media Player is crashing while Groove cannot even find a single media file out of 100GB music. Audacious stupid Groove asks: "My dear please tell me where to search for your lovely music files?", but then turns over and goes to sleep. Very disappointing. Now I cannot play any music neither by Media Player nor Groove.
View 1 RepliesAll my desktop icons are stuck on the left side of the desktopAll file explorer view are stuck in details view. Now yes, I have turned off Auto-arrange, still refreshes to all icons on left. I have tired ALL sorts combinations of view + sort by... nothing. I have tired many anti-malware/virus scans and nothing has come up. I have tired CCleaner pretty much everything and the problem persists.
Of note, I had done a system restore a week and half ago to a specific point and that fixed the problem but for just a day, then it happened again. When I got around to having time to go for another system restore, that restore point was gone and now no other restore point is fixing the issue -_-That left me to think it might be something I installed or perhaps a windows update... but after having uninstalled pretty much everything I could that I installed in the last week as well as removing recent updates.... nothing. I have also tried making a new windows account (local)... nothing. Also tried in safe mode, still nothing.
Got a new DELL that comes with windows 7 Pro. and I upgraded to windows 10 Pro with no issues. Later I found out that I "should " have Upgraded using the "Windows 10 Media Creation Tool" instead of "Get Upgrade". How can I get the installation Media now with the Iso image, so that I can make a copy onto a DVD, so that I can do a clean installation in the future.?Is it that the "product key" or digital entitlement ONLY works for this Dell machine alone and NOT transferable?
View 7 Replieswhat is the difference between buying a laptop with or without the recovery media USB? Im picking up a Sager NP8651 and the vendors all offer win 10 pro without and with a' 64 bit usb recovery media'

View 1 RepliesI want to set up another calendar. I have a Microsoft account. Can I have multiple calendars on a single machine? When I read the instructions they say to click her or there but the options are not available.
View 8 RepliesI have been using windows 10 on my Acer Aspire since Microsoft first offered it. Today it has come up with a bit of a surprise. I no longer have the ability to create new folders on my desktop or anywhere else. Previously I would right click on the desktop and in the popup window select "new" then "folder" et voila a new folder. Now if I right click I get no such options.
View 1 RepliesSince windows 10 has been launched and it has already been downloaded on my PC and installed. I wanted to know how to create a boot-able DVD so that I can also install it later, you know like doing a completely fresh installation and having the windows staying activated. Cuz windows was upgraded to 10 from 8.1 and Microsoft didn't gave me any key, so if I install it again on the same device will it remain activated?
View 1 RepliesI have recently installed Windows 10
I would now like to add some of my music CD to the Windows Media Player
I have asked online and was advised to open Windows Media Play, insert music CD and click the Rip CD button.
I can not find this Rip CD button.
Am I right in thinking that after upgrading from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10, I should be able to make a bootable USB including a system image without having to copy install.wim from the downloaded media, placing it on the C: partition and setting the appropriate entry in ReagentC?
As I can only make such a bootable USB after performing the above steps, does this mean that if I subsequently delete the install.wim and ReagentC entry, I will not be able to effect a recovery from the hard drive alone?
Recovery media seems to be fussy about the type of flash drive I use. I can make the full recovery drive including the system image on a Sandisk Cruzer Blade, but if instead I try using a Sandisk Cruzer Edge of the same size, I can only make a boot USB without the image. Otherwise I get the message 'We can't create the recovery drive. A problem occurred while creating the recovery drive'. Why is this?
Since updating to Windows 10 I have lost my media player, how can I get it back?
View 1 RepliesThere is just one requirement for the upgrade for my 32 GB 8.1 Tablet which concerns me (at the moment). It is the requirement for 16 GB of free storage space, which is more than twice what I have despite doing everything I can think of to reduce the demands on my HDD/SSD.
Then I found the following, rather hidden away in a forum:
'Windows 10 will use partition switching according to the pre-session presentation by Microsoft on how to upgrade to Windows 10. If enough space is not available, Windows 10 may expand the system partition to make room for the new OS. Likewise, on mobile phones, the app files and customizable system files may be transferred to SD card in case of low storage space.'
This looks to me like what I hoped might be possible. I use an 'integral' SD Memory Card (which I could upgrade significantly if necessary) as if it were a (D) partition. It now has most of my important programs on it, as portable apps. If I have understood the quote above, W10 will use my SD Card as part of the upgrade. Is this right?
Is there a way to create boot media on windows 10 for use in another pc? Customer tried to install w/o a backup & hosed the system, now black screen with mouse arrow & that's it.
