Sometimes when I power down or restart I get a sound that is usually used when there is a problem. I looked up the sound and its the standard "Critical Stop" sound. This only happens sometimes but even if it does occur the system still either shuts down or restarts properly.
View 6 RepliesSometimes, when I shut down or restart Windows 10 64-bit, just before the screen turns black it makes the critical stop sound effect. It does not effect anything, the whole shut down process is like 3 seconds, which I really like in Win 10.
Nevertheless it bugs me a bit, I also had this sometimes in Win 7. I'm not running any programs while shutting down, it would notify me if I did.
Recently I started having a problem where after my computer is on for awhile, nothing that operates in the Metro UI will open or function at all. This includes the Start menu, any Windows 10 apps including Settings, Task View, the alt-tab interface, etc. I also cannot log out or restart or shut down, I can get to the options from Ctrl+Alt+Del but it just gets stuck on logging out and I have to do a hard reset.

View 1 RepliesToshiba laptop now with win 10 download on it. have had critical error twice but resolved both times. switched laptop on today and critical error came on screen, used powersuite to resolve it and when it came up to the end of its run, a box came up for a restart so I did. upon starting up the only thing on screen now is what appears to be vertical line flashing up at quite a high speed.
View 7 RepliesSo this morning, I turned on my PC to discover that my downloads folder is now completely empty (I had put a few folders and files in there and downloaded some programs, all gone now). Even shortcuts that I placed on the desktop have disappeared, and I had to re-sign in to Chrome and import all of my bookmarks again. Last night I had accidentally clicked on restart instead of shut down, as they are so close together. I don't know if this could have contributed to the issue. After waiting for it to come back on I shut it down.
I'm just wanting to know what could have caused this, and how to fix it if possible. Definitely don't want it to happen again, and not sure if it's a Windows 10 issue or a fault with my PC. Should mention that I only recently bought this computer and it came pre-installed with Windows 10.
Solved by restarting again...still somewhat worrying that something like that could happen though.
So I had a pretty big update for my Windows recently and since then whenever I restarted my pc it take like 10 on the restart screen and then the screen goes black so I just turn it off from the button because I'm impatient. And same thing happens when I shut it down, the screen goes off but the pc keeps running for lik it seems forever.
View 1 RepliesI'm having a myriad of issues after upgrading to Windows 10. I'll list them below along with what i've already done to resolve:
- Computer won't shut down.
Someone told me to disable something with the Gigabyte process on the Motherboard, didn't work. I click on shut down and the computer restarts instead.
- No sound except EXTREMELY low sound on headphones.
I've already tried installing the Windows 10 Realtek HD drivers but nothing seems to work. Eventually I somehow got the headphones to play sounds but is is incredibly low even fully maxed out. All devices show that they are "working" correctly. Also, when I test it, I can see the green bar moving as if sound is playing, but no sound in any speakers / headphones I hook to the computer comes out.
- Less important issue but the "search" bar in the bottom doesnt ever return any results, ever. It just sits there indefinitely.
Last evening as I was on my system like normal; all the sudden I got a popping sound and my system shut off. I then tried to turn it back on and it won't power back on even though I can see power is getting to the system board because there is a power and reset button on the board that are lit up. I just let it rest over night and tried again just now but it still will not power on. Does this sound like a power supply issue?
View 9 RepliesI have been using Windows 10 for some months by now but in the past month i have been experiencing the following issue:
Sometimes when i turn my computer on i can't do anything using my taskbar (such as controling sound and viewing alerts) or my windows start menu (when i click the windows logo nothing happens). This comes back to normal once i restart the system.
I have been having an issue where either playing a game or just watching youtube sound just stops and I have to restart the service and then it works again. It doesn't say its not running or that is crashed it just stops working but still "runs"?

I upgraded to Windows 10 everything seems to run fine but system will not restart from the restart selection on the start menu. Windows update will not reboot automatically either. System looks like it is going to reboot, everything shuts down but as system trys to restart everything freezes. Only way around it is to do a hard shutdown by holding the power button. Updated graphics card,hard drive and bios but still no luck.
View 1 RepliesI am upgrading a computer from Windows 7 to Windows 10. I completed the download, and got a message that the computer needed to restart to continue the installation. However, when I restart and the computer comes back up, the same message appears and the installation does not progress. When I go to check Windows updates in the control panel, it says it can't check for updates because another installation is in progress. I have restarted the machine multiple times with no progress - can't go forward, can't go back.

Now if i want to plug my earphones to the left side of the computer where the audio jack socket is located the sound does not transfer to my earphones except i will change the default sound device from speakers to headphones.
How can i set it to automatically when i plugin my headphones/earphones/external speaker automatically transfer the sound to this device without changing the settings?
I just bought this sound card and installed drivers for Windows 10. (and a crapton of bloatware with UI of Win XP media player...)
Everything works well except one thing: when I change the sound (or mute) I don't see Windows 10 volume bar. I mean these:
The sound itself changes, but there is no indicator. Is there a way to fix that?
Windows 10 Pro play sound at startup is checked but the select a sound option is grayed out...

View 3 RepliesI was previously on Windows 7 and upgraded to 10 when the notifications came out last month. In W7 I was able to open the SOUND RECORDER program
and then record sounds from the video that was playing through the internet explorer I was using at that time. It did NOT matter which internet explorer I was using, be it IE or CHROME or FIREFOX, etc. I was previously able to open a video, for example youtube, and then record the sound that was playing into the SOUND RECORDER program, and then save that file on my desktop as a WMA.
I have not been able to find the SOUND RECORDER program in Windows 10. Is it gone? I've tried downloading a couple freebie programs that are similar to it, but they're not recording the sounds either. So now I'm thinking maybe Windows 10 bypassed or simply disregarded my sound card altogether, ? Is that a possibility?
I just installed the most recent windows 10 tech preview last night; but my sound blaster pci express sound card did not get installed correctly or something because i am getting no sound at all. I roll everything back to the old setup.

I installed the above OS over windows 7. Install went well but the day after I went to log into my computer. It came back to the windows 7 home screen and a message saying there had been a critical error with Windows and cortana and it would try to restore if I sign out then in again. I've don't just that a few times with the same message popping up. I can open the icons on the screen but the start menu will not pop up.
How do I go about reinstalling the OS?
I get the error message which says "Critical error- Your start menu isn't working. We'll try to fix it next time you sign in. <Sign out now>". It came, went and now its broken again.

I have been struggling for a month now trying to fix my system, I have installed a windows seven then migrated to 10 but the issue I'm about to talk about has been happening since day one of me acquiring the new rig.
- Everything freezes
- Blue screen
- Varying problem. Either CRITICAL_PROCESS_DIED or UNEXPECTED_STORE_ERROR and a couple others.
What I did so far:
- Checked driver updates.
- SFC /SCANNOW.
- Reinstalled system.
What I suspect and hope it is not:
- CPU hardware malfunction.
- SSD hardware malfunction.
- Windows needs a good beating.
I have included the Dxdiag.text file and the CBS.log file.
