I found the method to add items to the start list, but its missing certain things, for instance the control panel and the shell: games folder. I want to be able to add those options to the start list and also make them expanded lists so I dont have to open a folder and then navigate to the option I want. How to do that?

You put your mouse over a folder and it opens up, I can't find out how to do this with 10.
I wanted to add some programs to the top of the left side of the start menu (free space on the screenshoot). I have read about the "Pin to Start List" if you rightclick while holding shift. But this seems not to be working anymore!?!?! Is there another possibility to customize this list or to re-add the function? I don't want to use "recently added apps" or something like that ...
View 9 RepliesThe situation is I can't add any item to the "start list', which is the list on the left of the start icons.As far as I've read, it's supposed to be as easy as dragging an icon, but it can't be done I get an "x" when I reach the destination at the left.Strange also, is that in my context menu there is no option named "start list", which posters point as an option to add a program icon to the list. Also, right clicking on an item on start list does not show me the "remove from this list option".
View 1 RepliesI can place a new folder or custom shortcut in the correct start menu location (current user or all users) but it will not appear in the All apps list. If I go to the folder or shortcut and right-click Pin to Start it will appear as a tile in the start menu, but still will not show up in the All apps list. I think this behavior started with Version 1511 since it was working for me in the previous version.

The Start Screen in Windows 10 is a mess with the mix of a Windows 7 style Start Menu and the vertical scroll of the tiles.
Would there be any way to bring the Windows 8 Start Screen to Windows 10 as in the early builds?
I don't need any fancy additional features, just the Windows 8 Start Screen style and behaviour.
This little program is powerful and it's free unlike the one stardock is offering.
It even brings Games Explorer back.

I have 2 different Windows 10 machines...
1. A clean install of Windows 10.
2. An upgrade from Windows 7.
The right-click context menus are very different on each. I have imported the same themes and tried to match as many of the tweaks on the 2 machines.
For starters I have disabled Segoe UI completely, and replaced it with Arial. Also, Font Smoothing and Cleartype are completely disabled.
For the clean 10 machine, I get clean white context menus, both on the desktop and taskbar... no blurring.
For the 10 machine upgraded from 7, I get a gray blurry context menu, and a dark gray one on the taskbar.

on previous releases of Windows you could select Fonts for Window titles, menus , toolbars etc.
On two of my monitors the current fonts just look HIDEOUS and there's no way to change them -- worked fine on Windows 7.
This is going to cause BIG problems for some people if we upgrade to W10. They are using laptops - then it's fine if not using an external monitor but when plugged into decent monitors via HDMI is when the problem starts. Applications are fine but the menus / titlebars etc are almost unreadable !!!!!
For instance -- no problem typing this post on to the Forum but looking at the http address or the menu line of the browser is HIDEOUS.
Using latest INTEL HD graphics drivers.
At least on XP --->W8 you could st the individual fonts for system items such as titlebars etc.
I'm running W10 x-64 pro build 10240 (RTM).
This is a BIG showstopper.
Note it's for the WINDOWS SYSTEM stuff I need to change the fonts for -- in things like Word you can change as desired in the APPLICATION area but not the Menu area etc.
For example -- File explorer list --hideously unreadable !!!! However uploading to png you can't see how bad it is !!! but it IS unreadable on the monitor.
Can I use switch user option on power option list or on start menu list ?

Basically, I want to move away from the Light, and into the Dark Theme, Keeping my Teal Colour scheme (looks win95/98, retro~) but the Dark themes apply only to the metro styling. I want Desktop Styling also, the Title Bars from White to Black (or more specifically the Dark theme RGB of 31,31,31):

And of course the Active Window Titles from black to white (to show on the black title bars).
But I also want the Dark Menus:

Hopefully I can get this working and list up all the useless preinstalled apps (to remove them from build), I can apply it to and build my own Win10 ISOs so I can clean-install my Desktop, Laptop and Tablet!
if it's eve possible, to remove 'Cut' and 'Create shortcut' from the context menu for files and folders?!
View 2 RepliesI was quite surprised at the lack of some of the basic features of Microsoft Edge that have been found in IE for years that are critical in my mind. One of these is the ability to have a drop down list on both the back and forward buttons in the browser to be able to quickly go to a page you've visited without having to click through each individual page.
I was hoping that Edge would get that feature in some of the updates that have taken place, including this most recent November update, but it hasn't happened yet. In the meantime, it's looking more and more like I'll return to IE.
Not sure what Microsoft is thinking, but the "most used" list...isn't functioning as you would expect. I want programs I launch often to go there, with the recent file list fly out, that's the most user-friendly feature brought over from Windows 7....
However, what Windows uses to identify "most used". I use one program every single day, it never appears.
A program I used a few times over a month ago is still in the list, when I chose to remove it, no other programs replaced it...why wouldn't the next most used program appear?
How do I set the number of programs to list...the number grows and reduces all on it's own...it's quite bizarre.
This would all be fine if I could CHOOSE to add programs to the start menu (The "real" one, NOT the "modern" one, with it's useless huge icons)..but...you can't!!!
How do I apply a view, specifically the "list" view, to only all of the subfolders of a folder without changing each one individually.

View 9 RepliesIn versions prior to 10 one could drag and drop items in jump list. In Windows 10 it's different (but certainly not better. Why do they mess with this stuff????)
In Windows 10, if you open File Explorer, you can drag and drop the pinned folders under the Quick Access header on the left. When you right click File Explorer icon pinned to taskbar, the items will be in the same order as established in the Quick Access heading in File Explorer.
How do a get a program that I use quite often to get on the "Most Used Programs List". I realize that I probably have to use it more for it to appear on the list. But I want to know if I can get it there even though the program is not used as often as the others.

View 2 RepliesWhen I click one of the shortcuts in the start menu, I am informed that windows cannot find the specified location.
When I try to navigate to the location, windows wont let me select it. Windows is looking for a file to navigate to when I get that prompt but, I need to specify a folder to get the shortcut I want. I tried to use a shortcut as well but, when I select, it opens the file location and cant be used as a specified file from what I can tell.
I accidentally remove all in the list by clicking "Don't Show in the List" all apps is now not listed to the most used app list. How can i undo it? I try to turn it off and on on the settings "Show most used app list" option but does not undo it. 100%x
Note: The Cmd, VLC Player , Control Panel & Sway are my recent app i used after i do it.
Is there a way to make all apps list instead of groups (0-9, A, B, etc.)?
When wif win7 i created my own folders in all apps menu.
So i changed my language from Norwegian to English just to try Cortana, and then i switched back again. But then i noticed that the "Most used" list of apps in the start menu was gone. Any one else who have experienced this? It has been empty for 24 hours now.
