I want to assign a custom icon to every file type no matter what the associated app is. I can change individual default icons, but they get overwritten by the application icon. Is it possible to do this :
And if so, how ? (I want to keep the file associations: .css and .txt are still getting open by Sublime, .ini by WordPad and so on ...)
I have two desktops (work and home) with more than one screen, on these computers, I would like my start menu on the far right side of the right screen.
However, on computers with only screen (my laptop), I would like my start menu along the bottom.
Is there any way to set up an IF statement that places the start menu in a location based on the number of screens or, worst case, stop that property from updating across computers?
I'm having a bit of trouble installing a program.It really doesn't matter what program it is, all I know is that the installation file doesn't fully work in Windows 10 and for it to work I need to change a file extension.I need to change a file extension in one of the InstallShield Installation Information folders (C:Program Files (x86)InstallShield Installation Information..If I just change the name of a file, it works fine. However, when I try to change the extension, it says 'access denied'.
Now I've tried a ton of methods to authorize myself to change the extension (take ownership, change owner in security tab, ...). However nothing worked. every time I try to change it, it first gives the regular message that the file might not function when changing a file extension. Then I get the regular 'You need administator rights to change the file name' and I click continue. After that I get the 'access denied' message, even though I have an administrator account, no matter what I do.
Can you change the drive icons in Win 10? I did this in Win 8.1.
In regedit -HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMICROSOFTWINDOWSCURENTVERSIONEXPLORER
It won't let me type DriveIcons.
The apps that are pinned on the taskbar those ones. Any way to do that?

Personalization>Windows color and appearance>Advanced appearance settings, where I can set the font style along with bold and italic. i have searched extensively without success.
I was using FileTypesMan, but it seems to revert to default settings every time I restart the computer.

View 4 RepliesAfter pinning some user-installed applications to the Start Menu they looked fine. Today, all the icons that should be displayed in the buttons are gone. To determine what a given button does I have to hover over it, and the title appears in text. They still work to institute execution but are surely not the intuitive, user-friendly stuff we are suppose to applaud in W10.
Like my other problems of this nature, restart does nothing to correct the problem. And I cannot remove and reinstall the buttons since a right-click on them does absolutely nothing. All Windows provided buttons still have their icons, but right clicking on them does nothing either. I can drag-and-drop the icons around on the right side but cannot even resize them since a right-click is useless.
I recently upgraded my PC from Windows 8 to 10. Now all Windows and application borders are colorless and my taskbar is black. I have used Personalization to change it back to blue borders and a transparent taskbar just as in Windows 8. However, nothing changes. I contacted Microsoft support who remotely accessed my PC and attempted to make my desired changes. Microsoft support was unable to fix the problem and promised me they would submit a fix request. At this time I have not heard back from Microsoft.

When I tried to open it, it asked me what program I would like to use. I was able to open it up with adobe reader and I was able to view it in the e-mail that it was received in. However, when I tried attaching the file to an e-mail for a different recipient, I could no longer view it in the e-mail and it still downloaded the same way in the imgur link.
The only way I was able to fix this was I saved the pdf from the original e-mail to my google drive, then I downloaded it to my computer from my google drive, and it actually showed up as a pdf file.
My question is, why was I able to view it through the gmail pdf reader when I first received it, but when I downloaded it, it showed up with no extension?
I have a browser built from Chromium, It is installed a download extension(Savior). But I want to use Chrome, I can't find that extension on Web Store. Can I extract that extension to install on Chrome?
View 1 RepliesI am currently having an issue with icons not displaying on Windows 10, I also cannot change the folder layout as it is grayed out as you will see in the snip it below.
For some reason Adobe PDF icons still display but all the others are just folder icons or the generic gray page icon.
I just installed windows 10 but I dont quite like the small size of the taskbar icons. How do i increase their size without increasing the size of everything else?

Get the message: "There were problems installing some updates, but we'll try again later. I have tried to reset the Update process per the instructions supplied by Microsoft. No results there, either. Long story short, I'm not able to get any updates.

I've got two monitors and I have taskbar shown on both and buttons are set to show on taskbar where the window is open. What I'm trying to do is hide the Start Menu, Cortana search, and task view buttons on the non-primary monitor taskbar.

View 2 RepliesI have a Surface Pro 2 (on the Insider Program) trying to download the "Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1511 for x64-based systems (KB3116908)" update. I keep getting the above error (0x80070570) when it tries to download. I feel like I read something about this somewhere on here, but I can't seem to find anything relative to my circumstances when I search for it. My wife is wanting this Surface Pro when I upgrade!!!
View 10 RepliesAfter installing windows 10 all Internet based media is not working. BBC iplayer, Netflix both via app and browsers, YouTube takes notions, any live streaming is a pixilated green screen but again with just sound. As this is the main use of my Toshiba laptop the thing is darn useless now.
Reinstalled windows 10, updated and rolled back various drivers, Done the usual chance video to software acceleration instead of via GPU. Nothings worked and not seeing similar threads so am I alone and if so how do I go about getting a working laptop again as I no longer have option to go back to 8.1.
