UNPIN UNWANTED ICONS FROM TASK BAR I just upgraded two systems to Win 10 this weekend but am having trouble finding out how to remove unwanted icons from the task bar.
DesktopDownloadsPicturesDocumentsMusic
These take up space I prefer to use for desired icons. I don't need or want them there but there is no "un-pin" option for those. I have searched and all I can find are results to hide the entire task bar or instructions on how to add to the taskbar but not a word on how to remove those unwanted items.
I would also like to know how I can un-pin one specific drive which is encrypted so it is not available on taskbar...it always wants me to format it! Better to hide from taskbar. Still needs to remain visible to encryption program of course.
In versions prior to 10 one could drag and drop items in jump list. In Windows 10 it's different (but certainly not better. Why do they mess with this stuff????)
In Windows 10, if you open File Explorer, you can drag and drop the pinned folders under the Quick Access header on the left. When you right click File Explorer icon pinned to taskbar, the items will be in the same order as established in the Quick Access heading in File Explorer.
The advice given (to go to "personalization" and turn "show color on Start, Task bar, action center and title bar" to "on" and pick a color) does not change the background color of the task bar, which remains black regardless of this setting. how can you change the background color of the task bar from black to something that will actually contrast with the icons? Black is a terrible color; some of the icons are barely visible with that setting.
what I see about Windows 10 so far, but one thing that does bother me is the vibrancy of the colors of the start menu and task bar. I would prefer a more pastel color theme, but so far I haven't been able to find how to do that. I've tried following the second half of this guide (basically, just run "rundll32.exe shell32.dll,Control_RunDLL desk.cpl,Advanced,@Advanced") to get to the old style "Show color mixer" menu. And that menu does in fact have sliders for "color intensity" or "saturation." The problem is, adjusting those sliders doesn't seem to actually change anything.
So is it possible with Windows 10 to actually change this color option?
To change the default Color of the Start Menu & Taskbar go to Control Panel > All Control Panel Items > Personalization > Color And Appearance then select Show Color Mixer. These 3 sliders will modify the solid color chosen above that also modifies the color of the Start Menu & Taskbar.
The Color Intensity slider only modifies the color of the window borders.
Color and Appearance - Change in Windows 10
Color Intensity & Color Mixer functions (Sliders) have been depreciated and no longer have any effect of altering a chosen color for builds newer than 10130.
I recently purchased a new acer computer in Russia. It was running win8 and I upgraded to Win10 online.
I have since tried to switch the menu languages and everything to English but can't figure out how to get it to work completely in English.
Often used windows apps in the start menu all appear in english (maps, people, calculator etc..) but actual words Often used are in Russian. As are all menu items in windows explorer etc..and other windows programs.
When I go to time and Language settings and then Region and Language its setup as USA and English USA, don't even see Russian listed there. how to resolve?
My PC has decided to not show up my taskbar items today! The only icons are: Start button, cortana, task view and the notification center. The thing is that none of these will open and all my other icons are gone, even the date and time. I have tried to restart my pc and explorer.exe with no luck, and when i try customizing the taskbar i get an error saying there is no default control panel.
Start, Search items won't open from the taskbar. Clicking on Start or search results in the busy icon showing for less that a second and nothing else happens!
After an apparently smooth upgrade to Win 10 I realised the buttons on the taskbar don't lauch the programs anymore. Nor do the items on the start menu. The only few that work are the ones added by Win 10 such as Microsoft Edge, and inexplicably Skype and Viber.
I have detected a possible cause in the default application that opens .lnk files: there is no program associated. I have tried several ways (such as editing regedit, launching patches, etc.) to set the value to Iexplore.exe, but without success.
The situation is I can't add any item to the "start list', which is the list on the left of the start icons. As far as I've read, it's supposed to be as easy as dragging an icon, but it can't be done I get an "x" when I reach the destination at the left.Strange also, is that in my context menu there is no option named "start list", which posters point as an option to add a program icon to the list. Also, right clicking on an item on start list does not show me the "remove from this list option".
I spent yesterday fiddling with my context menu (Right-Click Menu). I downloaded and installed nearly a dozen different apps/programs. I settled on a couple and went to work adding commands. Here's the problem: Once the items show up in the Context/Right Click menu, there's no way to arrange them. Alphabetically, for example. They appear alphabetical in the software interface and in the registry, but not in the menu itself.
I'm running the latest version of Windows 10 Pro and I have somewhat of a quirky problem. My taskbar is at the bottom
of the screen but I have it expanded to 2 rows, e.g. twice as "thick" vertically as the default. When I right-click on any pinned icons on the bottom row and move the mouse up vertically to access the jump list of that particular program, the jump list
disappears. It seems to be a focus problem of sorts as if I resize the taskbar back to the default, the issue doesn't happen.
I've read many posts about hidden icons or icons showing wrong images etc, but my problem seem to be different from others.
When I log on after a reboot, I only see the search icon and the Task View icon in the task bar even though I have several other programs pinned.
If I open a pinned program I see it in the task bar and have the option to unpin the r-click menu, but if I close it, the icon disappears again.
If I open a program that is not pinned, and I r-click and pin the program, the task bar seems to 'refresh' and suddenly I see all my pinned programs in the task bar - and they all work when clicking on them.
How I can make the task bar show the pinned programs without having to pin a new program after every reboot?
So my laptop was purchased in China which came with authentic windows 8.1. I recently upgraded to windows 10 through official pop up notification. However after trying all means I couldn't alter the display language. In the settings-region and language-language-add a language/I am able to add any language in here but when I click options in one of the added language, there's no option of "download language pack" as many tutorials on internet.I have tried under English (United Kingdom) "set language as primary" but after restart, nothing's changed . Still display Chinese.
In control panel-add a language-options-windows display language/Again there's no option of setting a new language as display language, it says under windows display language "not available in this version of Windows" (something like this, I did the translation).I can add or change input keyboard without problem. The version of windows currently in my laptop is "Windows 10 Home Chinese Version" (something like this, again I did the translation). Is this the reason I can't change display language?
I have a Toshiba Satellite (P755-S5215) and the resolution is "squeezed" ... from top to bottom. In addition, I cannot change the resolution. I currently have a "Microsoft Basic Display Adapter" showing in Device Manager.
Should I get the latest Intel Display driver from the Toshiba Support site? ... which is from 2013 and just over 300 mb (why so large)?
So I know pressing window+p brings up a menu that allows you to switch display but I want something like a bat command that when run, would switch the display to "Pc screen Only". How would I do this?
