View 7 RepliesI wish to know if there is a way to change the font size/style (bold, etc.) of the icon labels ONLY on the desktop screen.
I've tried the Control Panel method (Appearance & Personalization -> Display) that allows me to change the fonts for 'ICONS'. However, this option also changes the appearance of fonts in the directories/filenames, which is not what I want.
E.g. Labels on the desktop with size 12 and bold. Fonts in folders: size 9 and UNbolded (default style).
I just installed Build 9879 over Windows 7 on a spare machine and it went as expected except for the size of the Icon fonts and size of the taskbar. They both are much larger than they were on Win 7. I can't remember how to make them smaller. I make the icons themselves smaller (medium) by using View on the desktop but the fonts and taskbar are way to big. How to reduce them under Win 10?

View 6 RepliesI tried the registry fix that worked last time on Windows 7 to fix this issue of custom icons not automatically changing, but apparently it cropped up again in Windows 10, and is also not fixable via adding the ",0" to the end of the registry entry.
View 1 RepliesNew windows 10 installation; background color of taskbar is ugly black, and can't figure out how to change it.
View 2 RepliesI have used the usual route to changing a default icon in "Properties" for internet shortcut(s). However, changing one file icon strangely does not change all the rest. Is this a bug? Is there a workround?

How can I reduce the taskbar button icon width?
I have an HP spectre laptop with a 2560 x 1440 display on a 13" screen. Needless to say on the default settings, all the text is very very small.
So. under Windows 8.1, I was able to enlarge everything to 150% and then adjust the menu bars and other text to suit my eyes.
I then upgraded to Windows 10. And the ability to adjust the menu bars is now greyed out.
What do I have to do to re-enable it?
I have just plugged in a second monitor to my PC, the resolution of both monitors are as recommended (1) is 1366 x 768 and the other (2) which is the main display is 1920 x 1080 - I would like to increase the size of the font, task bar icons etc on my main display (2) but when I go to the "advanced sizing of text and other items" and then to the "Change only the text size" I cannot select specific items as this part is grayed out and I cant click on it. Could it be because I am trying to change something on the (2) monitor (even though it is ticked as my main display)?

View 2 Replieshow you change the size of the font in windows explorer, I do not wish to increase/decrease the screen's overall DPI.
View 8 RepliesLove the Win 10 preview. My problem is some of my icons are too big or too small. Half and half on the desktop. My fonts are so small I can hardly see them Also my icons are just about touching. Need to space them better. On Explorer the text is fine but when I go to the address bar they are so small I can't see them very clearly. I am running a L34 Ultra wide monitor at 3440x1440.
My second question is I bought an extra SSD hard drive to load the 10 preview on and left all my win 8.1 pro on my bigger SSD hard drive. I want to0 upgrade it to the bigger T-1 SSD EVO Samsung. Will the upgrade know that I want to put it on my EVO SSD?
I increased the size of my desktop icon and everything else to 500 %. The icons are now so big that I dont even see my task bar items. I have tried to reduce the size again but not able to do so because I cannot see all the buttons I need. How can I reduce the size
View 2 RepliesCurrently, my OneDrive icon is sitting in the 'hidden icons' section. I have seen pictures of the icon sitting on the taskbar next to Edge, the store, and all the other taskbar icons... how do you get that icon on the taskbar? I have tried all the normal ways I can think of (click and drag onto taskbar, going into taskbar settings, etc) but I can't get it to be removed from the hidden icons area.
View 2 RepliesI'm trying to find a way to change my Recycle bin icon to a Mac Pro, because, well, I can. I know you can do it on OS X, but I haven't found a way in Windows.
View 1 RepliesWin10 update and the start menu icons. I can change the colour but only for all of them to one colour, but can I change individual ones? And/Or better still can I make the small icon in the middle of them occupy the whole tile. I notice some tiles are only the brand icon whilst others have my single chosen colour as a border round a small brand icon. I find it really hard to identify individual tiles in the mass of a single colour. What I would really really really like to do is to see the brand icons be the full size of the tile.
View 3 RepliesI swear the more I use Windows 10, the more I hate it. It is beyond a doubt the least friendly of all their OS'swhere do you go to change the desktop icon text size and font? or is it another Regedit thing?
View 1 RepliesI know I can change the appearances of text and icons in Display settings. But in Win 8, I had the option of only affecting text and icons. Not everything, such as apps.
View 3 RepliesI just upgraded from W8.1 to W10 and it looks like the icons got smaller by default in the "details" view in the File Explorer.
My problem is that now the overlay icons which are used by TortoiseSVN do not seem to show anymore in the "details" view (when they did use to show in all previous versions of Windows). By overlay icons, I mean things like a green arrow or a red exclamation mark which show up on the icon to indicate that the file is up to date in SVN or has been modified (see screenshots below).not good alternative: the overlay icons do appear in the "Medium icons" or bigger view; (but not for "Small icons"), as well as in the "Content" view.
But none of these is satisfactory to me as I much prefer the "details" view for the things I do -- I like to be able to see both the SVN status at the same time as the details of files, in a reasonable presentation (I don't like the "Content" view, it wastes too much space when you have a lot of files to go through).
I suspect that if there is a way to change the size of the icons in the "details" view, the overlay icons would show up again. The reason I believe this is that the overlay icons do appear in the "details" view when I use the 125% setting in the SYSTEM | Display "Customize your display" setting (which was used by default on my high resolution (1920 x 1080) but small (11.6") laptop screen). See screenshots below:
normal (100%) setting for "details" view in File explorer:vs. 125% setting -- notice that now we can see the green arrow overlay icon for the folder temp_SKH_code:
Question: Is it possible to change the size of the icons appearing in the "details" view of the File Explorer (through a registry hack, or anything)? I am also open to any other alternative which would enable me to see the overlay icons of TortoiseSVN in the "details" view at 100% display setting.
As I use the 125% display setting on my laptop, I do not have any problem there. My problem is with the big external monitor (27" 2048 x 1152) that I use for which a 125% display setting would make everything way too big...For more information about the TortoiseSVN overlay icons and potential issues with Windows, see here. I originally thought that this was my problem (see also this post), until I realized that the overlay icons show fine in some of the views of File Explorer, as well as when using the 125% display setting.
Is there any way to freeze the size of the desktop icons and text size once you select them?

View 3 RepliesI just installed windows 10 but I dont quite like the small size of the taskbar icons. How do i increase their size without increasing the size of everything else?
View 1 RepliesI have a high resolution screen, so the taskbar seems disproportionately small by default/ In prior versions of Windows I would just increase the taskbar height and icons would adjust in size accordingly, but not so with Windows 10. How can I resize them, or is this deature just not implemented yet? I am using build 10130
