View 2 RepliesSo yesterday I installed 10 on the laptop. It appears to work very well, even though it seems, and is, intrusive (privacy concerns) and for me a long learning curve to figure out how all the new 'apps' (old redesigned programs and UI) work.
Here's the problem:
I have read through this tutorial (plus many other posts and articles): [URL]
I want/need to change the timing of the background pictures/theme and the colors of the window from the stock (forced upon me) settings, but the display does NOT show the controls in the bottom of the personalization area as they are shown in that tutorial (They were there in W7 and Vista, and in the tutorial above made in March).
I have tried different resolutions (none smaller available, currently at 1366x768, native), and only two font/display/text sizes I could find of 100% and 125%: The needed controls still don't show up.
The laptop is an ASUS G50VT - 5. Stock except for a 500GB Hybrid drive.
I downloaded and tried out some different pictures for my desktop background. After deciding on one of them I deleted the others from my pictures folder but the deleted pictures are still showing in the personalisation window and can even still be set as background. Why that's happening or how to stop it?
View 1 RepliesIs there any way to take Windows 10 back as if I had just installed it without losing programs I have installed?
View 9 RepliesNew Windows 10 Home Computer, set up using PCMover from Windows 7 Home Premium Computer. A few problems, of course, so far mainly applications that did not transfer properly, and those easily solved.
One problem however I don't understand, and, therefore, cannot fix. I've gone into the settings for default applications, some of which are constantly ignored. I know that they are ignored, as WinPatrol keeps notifying me of attempted changes. One such pop-up is on the screen right now, stating that a change for files with the extension .avi have been changed from the setting to use VLC media player to use Windows Media Player. I clicked on No, to reject the change, whereupon a new one, this time for .cab files popped up. I will reject it, and a series of such changes will appear and be rejected.
Everytime on my brand new computer i have to change the settings for the touch pad and click apply.. When i reboot the computer the settings are back at default settings.. Is there something i am not doing right..
View 1 RepliesI have gone into settings in my Windows 10 and changed the default music player from groove music to windows media player. But when I click on music files, it automatically starts playing in Groove and NOT windows media player. I have restarted Windows several times with the same results.

Can MS stop this?
Favourites are gone, I have to run xcopy to add back. Google search is no longer the default search provider. It also offers to remember password which I disabled.
I have an Acer (Intel Pentium Windows 10, 64-bit) computer which I bought a few months ago, and created one 'user' (my name - say John) Suddenly this week when I logged in (as John) the only items on the desktop were the default programs installed with the computer; all my files were gone. When opening the browser, or windows media player, all my custom settings were gone and it was as if the programs were being used for the first time. The default program used to open files (e.g. the original program instead of windows media player) had all reverted also. The start button was/is also not working.
I then discovered my files are still there and accessible - to do so I have to right-click on one of the programmes on desktop and 'open file location' then I can use the left column to (through windows explorer) get to C drive then 'Users' then 'John' and I can access everything that way. Also, the keyboard settings have bizarrely changed ie shift + 2 gives the @ sign instead of quotation mark.I have Norton which suggests no virus involved.I didn't have system restore activated. When computer starts it says press DEL to enter setup but nothing happens when I press it.is there anyway to fix this without doing a reset?
Trying to reinstall a WD MyBook external hard drive. Receiving the following "One or more network protocols are missing on this computer" Following diagnosis receiving "Restore network protocols to default settings", and "Windows Sockets registry entries required for network connectivity are missing". My computer is an HP Pavilion 23 all-in-one. My wireless router (connected with an Ethernet cord) is an ATT 67XHG8k.
View 4 RepliesSo I have been trying to get into the personalize and display settings by right clicking on my desktop. This is the error I get.
This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Please install a program or, if one is already installed, create an association in the Default Programs control panel.
I am also not able to get into settings by click the Start and Settings link. Nothing happens. what to do....
I somehow messed up my max memory setting from 8196 to 520 in the system configuration under the 'Boot' tab. Every time I try to restart my laptop, it said bad_system_config_error. How to change back my max memory setting to default. Btw, I'm using lenovo y510p and my os is windows 10.

I upgraded to windows 10 today and when I restart my PC, I always get an error issue called rtwlan.
"cannot find device configuration file, load default settings"
Is there anyway to solve this issue and is it related to my wifi drivers?
Had to try a few different methods to get the start menu not working problem to go away. Finally I had to go back to a restore point from just after the upgrade from Windows 7 to get the start menu to work again.
Now I try to turn back on the folders in Personalization > Start > Choose which folders appear on Start and the only one that is able to be toggled off and on is the Settings one. I want to turn most of them back on, but they are all locked to off.
I hope you can see what I mean if my words do not make sense in the attached screen capture.
It seems the default font on this WIndows is Arial and it's really ugly, especially when reading an entire page in Chrome or in any other browser. Tried to change the font in all browsers- no result. It can change only the size- Arial still there. It bugs me that it's everywhere, even in games. This compact font in games is really annoying and made me quite after playing a few minutes. I have no problems with overlapping or unreadable font problems I've read on this forum.
View 2 RepliesWhy the default for most folders and subfolders is the Icon view and why its so hard change that view to something else permanently?
For instance My Pictures, you can right click My Pictures / customize / "optimize this folder for general items" which will change the view to Details, but only temporarily. This also applies to the Desktop. You can create a folder on your desktop, inside create a sub-folder and put some files inside that. You'll notice the default view for the sub-folder will always be the Icon view. Now anyone that's on computers a lot will know that the Icon view when dealing with a lot of files is just a big jumbled mess, I always use the Detailed view, for everything.
It also seems to me they never stay the same. I'll go to My Documents one day and it will be randomly changed back to the Icon view, I can't be the only person who has noticed this. And why there no master setting to set all the folders on your computer to one view, permanently.
Where is this wallpaper stored? also, where can I find the different resolutions of it?

View 2 RepliesI would like to change default folder icon, but don't know how. I think it can be done with regedit, but I need to navigate where and what to change.
View 5 RepliesJust a question about the default start menu/tiles. Originally I didn't like the look of the tiles so I removed them however now I'm thinking I may actually like them. So is there a way I can get the default start menu/tiles back?
View 5 RepliesI have a home built Desk Top Computer and when I turned it on this morning and when it finished booting I had lost a lot of my icons and what was there all moved to the left side of the screen and the wallpaper went back to the Windows 10 Default. Also the Application short cut screen that comes up when you left click on the Windows icon in the bottom left enlarged and took up half my screen. I tried to adjust it by using the mouse and dragging it but that wouldn't work either. About a month or little more ago I had upgraded from Win 7 Home Prem with no problems at all. It has been working fine until this morning. I had to go back to a restore point to correct it. My wife has a Toshiba Laptop that I upgraded about the same time and hers did the same thing except that she didn't loose her Icons or wallpaper they all just moved to the left of the screen.
View 1 RepliesSince upgrading to Windows 10 my computer has developed a little glitch where every time I turn it on it switches the function keys to default, instead of the special action keys. I've tried switching it in settings but it does nothing. I've tried switching it in the Bios menu. Also nothing. I hate having to press the [Fn] key every time I want to pause a song or change the volume or the screen brightness, but the system seems determined to force me to do so?
