To change the default Color of the Start Menu & Taskbar go to Control Panel > All Control Panel Items > Personalization > Color And Appearance then select Show Color Mixer. These 3 sliders will modify the solid color chosen above that also modifies the color of the Start Menu & Taskbar.
The Color Intensity slider only modifies the color of the window borders.
Color and Appearance - Change in Windows 10
Color Intensity & Color Mixer functions (Sliders) have been depreciated and no longer have any effect of altering a chosen color for builds newer than 10130.
I have Pinned a few sites to the start menu using Microsoft Edge. My problem is that all of them have the same "E" edge (internet explorer) icon. So unless I keep them at large size, or remember in what order they were pinned/arranged, I have no clue which pin is for which site.
When you click "Pin To Start" in the options menu in Edge, where are those pins stored?
A friend of mine who recently upgraded to Windows 10 is legally blind and is struggling with some accessibility options. Here is what we are struggling with: We need to change the font color of desktop icons to black. Certain contrasts are more visible for some impairments and in this case, a yellow background with black bold icon text is the best condition.
What I've tried : Tried high contrast theme / modeTried to modify regedit based on a suggestion for 8.1 here.
Where I've looked : Control Panel - System - Advanced System Settings - Advanced - PerformancePersonalize - Change Desktop IconsPersonalize - ColorsControl Panel - PersonalizationDisplay SettingsThemes - Theme Settings
I was able to get the text black when using the white high contrast mode, but that option won't work. While it does change the icon text to black, it also takes over many other options that deliver a less than desirable contrast for the user. We originally were thinking we could start with the high contrast theme, save as another theme and then systematically roll back the changes we didn't like, leaving the black text. Does not work - when in high contrast mode it effectively locks out your ability to make certain changes.
I really like how Microsoft combined the old start menu with the new Metro style tiles. There is only one problem though: How do I even change the color for a single individual tile? I know I can change the color of every tile, but how about only one?
View 1 RepliesWhere Windows 10 stores it's new folder icons. I've tried changing folder icons but I am directed back to where I'm seeing the very old icons from XP, I think.
View 4 RepliesI would like to change default folder icon, but don't know how. I think it can be done with regedit, but I need to navigate where and what to change.
View 5 RepliesI created a new folder on the desktop and I can't change its icon to a one I downloaded. selecting the icon from the stock list (shell32.dll) works fine though. I tried with another folder in different location, still no luck. however, when I created a shortcut to the folder I placed on the desktop, I can change its icon to the custom one just fine. I just wanna have a folder with a blank icon.
edit: I fixed the issue. turns out Windows didn't like the fact that there was an "ą" letter in the icon path.
Why are some tiles gray and others blue? Can I set DVD player and weather gray too?

But for me it is not working properly, the color does not change and if changes, the start menu color does not change?
I am on Build 10240.
I've got a slideshow of images set as my desktop background, and under the Personalization settings for Colors I have the three settings "Automatically pick an accent color", "Show color on Start, taskbar, and action center" and "Make start, taskbar, and action center" all switched to On.
The problem is the accent color selection does not automatically refresh when the slideshow rolls to the next image. I have to either send the computer to sleep and wake it up, or toggle the "Automatically pick an accent color" slider in order to get it to refresh. Needless to say this is pretty impractical and I end up just sitting through the whole day with an accent color that only matches the first image of the slideshow.
It looks like the super-thin window border telling you which window has focus is still updating color correctly, but nothing else, anywhere, does at all.
Where is the option to change the fonts for your icon, menu's etc... don't want to change size or colour just type.

View 1 RepliesMy Windows 10 is in Turkish so some folder descriptions my differ from the English one! I'm using a folder in D (Windows 10 installed on C) named as Downloads to secure my downloaded files incase of a format or etc and changed the location of the Windows Downloads folder by simply right clicking the folder and choosing the Properties > Location in C:User[my username]
But in the start menu (which i enabled the view of Downloads folder from Control Panel>Personalizations>Start>Choose which folders ll be shown>Downloads "ON") when i click on Downloads it says "This shorcut doesnt work............... Do you want to delete the shortcut?"
How can i correct this error?
On the start menu each application / file has an associated icon. Unfortunately it appears that Windows 10 is using the accent color as the icon's background. So I get squares of color with the icon in the middle. There are screen shots from Windows 10 previews that show the icon backgrounds as transparent, or at least matching the background color of the start menu. But with transparency turned on, the icon backgrounds are not transparent, but instead the accent color.
It is as if Microsoft said "Hey - ALL icons should be SQUARE - so we will make all icons SQUARE just like tiles, whether you like it or not".
So - how does one make the start menu icon background color transparent?
I wonder if there is a way (through editing system files or registry) to change Windows 10 Start Menu "All apps" to something else like "My Programs". Also where is the icon file located in the system and how to change the default icon.

View 1 RepliesI have two desktops (work and home) with more than one screen, on these computers, I would like my start menu on the far right side of the right screen.
However, on computers with only screen (my laptop), I would like my start menu along the bottom.
Is there any way to set up an IF statement that places the start menu in a location based on the number of screens or, worst case, stop that property from updating across computers?
There's no way, i can't change the taskbar color. No matter if i go to Settings - Colors and change the options, it keeps showing me a white ugly taskbar. i've found in my w10 installation.

View 2 RepliesIs there a way to change titlebar text color? like for active and inactive title bars? I mean I really do not understand at all why they removed all these customization options in windows 10, that even windows 95, 98, xp, me, vista, 7 and I think 8 had.
