Customization :: Enable NumLock On Fast - Startup
Nov 17, 2015
The issue I am currently having is enabling NumLock before the logon, I have modified the corresponding registry key (Find attached my screenshot below) and that works perfectly fine when restarting my PC, however I have fast-startup (Screenshot also below) enabled and if I shutdown my PC and then boot it up again, NumLock is disabled by default. I have made numerous searches and can't seem to find any information in regards to Fast-startup or any registry keys linked to it and I don't particularly want to disable Fast-startup. Just to clarify, NumLock is always enabled before logon when booting up my PC and Fast-startup is disabled, however with Fast-startup enabled, NumLock is only enabled when restarting my computer.

HP upgraded from Win7 and Toshiba upgraded from Win8.3 6-10 months ago to Win10.
I've tried to change from Fast Start which fixed only the failure on Toshiba to restart on command which was a good thing. Did nothing for HP.
I've changed the keyboard registry in both computers to the #2 which did nothing. (The HP was already set to 2)
I've gotten the latest patches and upgrades for Win10 on both laptops. Did nothing.
The numlock light comes on and stays on. The on screen icons show either locked or unlocked properly. Only the directional controls continue to work in either locked or unlocked mode.
I've found nothing anywhere that addresses this. Has to be a software issue as computers are different manufacturers and one is 3 years old and other is less than one year old.
It baffles me that it works on startup to put in my PIN and only fails when logged on to Windows 10.

I've been reading that having fast startup on in windows 8/10 can cause issues with dual booting systems with other operating systems installed like windows 7. I have windows 7 on one ssd and going to have windows 10 on a second. Will i have to disable fast startup in windows 10 or any other type of hibernation settings.

Installed MSI's "Fast boot" software, upon restarting every time I am greeted with a bluescreen mentioning it not detecting a device.
MSI Fast boot also seems to increase the time it takes for the mouse and keyboard to start so when it asks "Press enter to Retry, or F8 to change settings" i cannot do anything as the keyboard and mouse are not on.
If its possible to fix this without reinstalling.

Unchecking the "Turn on Fast Startup" command in the above setting path does not do it. There is supposed to be a motherboard software for enabling a normal startup the next time the computer is restarted.

Everybody wants disable - but what to do when I want to ENABLE ?
From the very first time after fresh update from Windows 8 to 10 - there was a problem to have Lock Screen.
I like the simple information on it and quick display off after a while not used...
Then, after any option possible used to enable it, it somehow appeared after windows update. I was lucky to have it back. Self customized to black background without any disturbing images and icons - only pure time and date.
And, then, after last whole build update from 10240 to 10586 - again NO MORE LOCK SCREEN .....
Tested again any possible option (system option, gpedit option, registry change) - nothing works like after first upgrade from 8 to 10...
If I try to set the notebook (Lenovo Yoga 15) to Lock, it appears blank black (my custom solid color) background for around 2 seconds, and then it goes directly to login dialog (personal image with login button).

I would like to know if there is a way to enable rotation of the background wallpaper in win10. It was easy to enable or disable in win 7 but I don't see a button for it in win10.

In Windows 7 I used an aliased font for my taskbar, start menu and desktop icons, because the text looks crisp and clear. Windows 10 makes the taskbar, start menu and desktop icons' text anti-aliased (fortunately the window titles are still aliased). How can I make Windows use aliased (i.e. non-blurry) text everywhere?

So I'm having trouble with NumLock defaulting on the Logon screen in Windows 10. I have a Dell Inspiron 15R.
I tried the following;
1.On the Logon screen, press the NumLock key on the keyboard to turn it on. On the bottom right corner of the Login screen I clicked the power button to reboot Windows.
2.using Registry tweak, InitialKeyboardIndicators under HKEY_USERS.DEFAULTControl PanelKeyboard using code(s) 2147483650 then tried 80000002 as well as just 2
Before installing Win10 it worked as desired (I did #2 above using code "2").

When I reboot and go to enter my login PIN the numlock is off and I have to turn it on. I can't seem to find a solution to make it stay on on reboot, except turning off fast boot. Windows 10?

I just got a new gpu put into my computer. A few things were changed around in the settings. It boots fine and everything is good. Except my number lock key use to light up during boot and I would just keep hitting delete which is my mobos command to enter bios and it would go in. Now when booting the numberlock key doesn't go on and just pressing delete doesn't work. It just goes straight into my windows login.
My computer works %100 fine and I just need to change 1 thing in the bios but I can't get into the setup. How to get my numberlock on during boot or to get into my bios? I don't even see "hit del to enter bios" at the bottom of the screen anymore. And my numberlock key doesn't even go on during start up until the windows login. I went into my settings and unchecked the fast boot up option in the power settings menu. Nothing has worked yet.

I chose to log in use the PIN option. I like typing with the num pad.
At the log on screen Num Lock was always off.
1. Checked the BIOS settings:
Ensured that the NumLock status in the BIOS was set to enabled
2. Modified the registry a few times
Key: HKEY_USERS.DEFAULTControl PanelKeyboard
I set the String Value: InitialKeyboardIndicators
to 2
then I tried 80000002
then I tried 2147483650
So I have partial success, where NumLock is enabled after a restart, but it is not enabled after a cold-boot.

I want to keep my selected tiles setup as my start up view without having to tap the windows button on screen or the windows key.
Yeah, I know, most people want to go back to the old start up menu. I liked the tiles view on my old Windows phone. I want to have the tiles I have selected and arranged to be the desktop view, not a blank photo image where then I have to add another step to select something.
So far any searches for keep tiles as start up returns info for Windows 8. I have Windows 10, native install on a Nextbook Flexx 10.

Any way to force Windows Spotlight to use a random image on each startup, as opposed to the default beach cave? I understand from other posts that since the user hasn't yet signed in at that point, it seems to default to that picture. However, using other 3rd party Win10 apps such as [Chameleon][URL] .... and other lock screen changers, I can confirm that they are able to change the lock screen picture on each startup (by doing it in the background while I'm using my pc, and then saving the changes I would assume).
I would assume the "slideshow" lock screen option works in a similar manner. Why is Windows Spotlight unable to do this out of the box, considering if I choose to lock my pc Windows Spotlight shows a new image most of the time. However, at each startup it reverts to the beach photo. I rarely lock my pc, so it seems like a waste.
Is there some setting, Windows app, or registry hack I can use to get the functionality I am describing? I was thinking Windows would store all the Spotlight photos it downloads in a folder somewhere, so I could choose a lock screen "slideshow" of that hidden folder, but it seems there are logos and other files in that folder as well.

I have a new configuration (z170 chipset, i3-6320, fast SSD) for my desktop and it boots slower than my laptop (Acer V3-574G (i7-5500) with the same SSD as my desktop). I don't think the i3-6320 vs i7-5500 can explain such difference.First thing is that Hibernation and Fastboot are activated but not working on my dektop PC: command "Get-WinEvent -ProviderName Microsoft-Windows-Kernel-boot -MaxEvents 10 | Where-Object {$_.id -like 27}" gives me 0x0 (cold boot from full shutdown). Parameters ares ok in settings and in registry (hiberboot = 1).I tried using Fast boot and MSI fast boot in the bios: no effect. I tried to enable win10 whql in bios but it is disabled after rebooting, with a warning message saying that my graphic card does not have GOP.So, I'm not able to fast boot due to an "old" hd7750 graphic card ?

I have three entries (among others) that are slated to startup when I logon. Each of them are featured twice in the start up tab of program manager.
On checking with autoruns I found that they occurred twice in the registry under
HKLMSOFTWAREMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionRun
and
HKLMSOFTWAREWow6432NodeMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionRun 14-12-2015 02:23
Is this normal?
My laptop is running windows 10 64 bit.
