Customization :: How To Disable Recent Files
Aug 4, 2015
How to disable that? When i open something (folder, files, pictures, etc....) it's automatic added to the recent files. And i saw everytime when i right click folder icon at taskbar.
Edit: After the updated 10586. I disabled this in options in Start setting. It's is OFF but i still saw Recent Files when i right click active Folder on the taskbar.
Found a solutions from here: Quick access - Add or Remove Recent files in Windows 10 - Windows 10 Forums

I have the option "Show recently opened items in Jump Lists on Start or the taskbar" off.
However since the last update whenever I either copy or move a file into any folder windows puts that folder under the Recent group in the taskbar.

In Windows explorer with W10 when i first had the RTM version Recent files were there, but as that os had been from Win 8.1 upgraded to 10 preview and then 10 RTM it was bloated. So i reinstalled a fresh copy of W10.
But now no recent files show up. I found how to go to view, folder options, but these settings were already ticked by default.

MS Paint keeps showing the last 9 files which were opened. Is there a way so that when I close the Paint, these files could automatically removed. I do not want to make a new user. Or if there is any other free program which is like MS Paint but have option to not to show last opened files.

At work, I'll open files on a network path that is only accessible at work, e.g. mywork.orgsharesfile.xyz
These files will appear in my recent list when opening File Explorer (Win+E). The problem I have is at home where that network path is not accessible, and the File Explorer window will HANG for minutes trying to find the file. I can get around it by running CCleaner and cleaning recent files, but I was wondering if there was something else that could be done where I don't have to wipe out my recent list?

Every time I open file explorer it displays my recent files. I would like to turn this feature off. If I can't find my own files without recent files, you can have my computer.
Why does Windows 10 want to hold our hand on everything?
You know those little kids in the Win 10 commercials? The ones that don't have to worry about security.
Well they will not have to worry about their EMAIL either. If email arrives Win 10 will never notify them, action center, sound and banner notifications never work.
Naturally the Mail App live tile only displays for 10 minutes if at all.

My new laptop has Windows10 pre-installed. It crashed and file explorer won't now show recent files. It seems to be showing recent folders but there are no recent files. Settings/personalisation/start shows "recently opened files" is turned "on" and File Explorer is showing on the Task Bar....

I've learned to like the "Quick Access" feature of Win 10. Recently it has shown a strange trait. That is, instead of listing my "frequent folders" in a list in a pane at the top of the window and "recent files" in a pane at the bottom at the bottom of the window (in a separate pane), both "frequent folders" and "recent files" show up on the same detail list (in a single pane).
Likewise, the entries are all sorted by name instead of (recent) date, as I would like.
See image:
Here is a sample (imaged grabbed from Internet) of how it should look. ("Recent folders" in a separate pane at the top and "recent files" at the bottom. This is how I want my Quick Access window to look again.
How can I get Quick access to once again separate the "recent folders" from the "recent files"... and make them sort by "most recent date first"?
By the way, I tried "restore defaults" but that was to no avail.

I've seen adding shortcuts for these folders to Quick Access, but not rooted in the Navigation Pane. Critical info regarding display in Navigation Pane was found here: URL....Critical info regarding the appropriate flags for display in Open/Save dialogs was found here: URL...These files work on a per-user basis. This avoids having to deal with Ownership/Permissions issues of the CLSIDs under HKLM. So here are the files:

Links-Add to NavPane-Per User-64-bit.reg
Recent Folders-Add to NavPane-Per User-64bit.reg

I am trying to find a way to prevent image thumbnails from displaying on my Desktop only.
I have my folder options set to allow for thumbnails. I embed images often, and I find it much easier when I can look for the image by sight, rather than by name only. I am trying to find out if I can leave my folder options set to allow for this, but not to allow thumbnails on the actual Desktop.
I thought that thumbnails would only work when the icons are set to size 'medium' and above, however I did right-click the Desktop and select "Small Icons," but the files still show as thumbnails.

This lock screen is just another click I have to do to get started. How to disable the lock screen.

I love Windows 10 but this may be the most annoying feature so far for me and I have no clue how to turn it off. I've searched online and all results concern windows 8/7/vista... and not only were there no real solutions but there is nothing about Windows 10. Never encountered this in Win7 (and never used Win8).
the problem here is I can't see where I'm dropping the files, I use the list view and manage a lot of files this damn icon hides the folders!

I have an Asus X550L and it came with Asus Smart Gesture, which I've been used to for quite a while now. I really liked using the three finger horizontal swypes to navigate webpages since I use strategy guides a lot and move back and forth between pages frequently. I was kind of shocked when my three finger swype performed an [Alt+Tab] instead of [Backspace].
Is there currently any way to disable this feature or override it so I can use Smart Gesture again? Or perhaps there is some way to customize what functions it performs?
Windows 10 Swype also changes the direction of scrolling when I use two finger vertical. I prefer inverted rather than regular, can I change this at the very least, if nothing else?

I tried to disable the lock screen on windows 10 through regedit.
I went to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE SOFTWARE Policies Microsoft Windows
but instead of creating a new folder PERSONAL i went to the right pane and created a new DWORD (NoLockScreen) and set value to 1.
Now when power up my laptop it goes into diagnose mode and I have to do a restore point before I can get in.
I tried doing a serach for DWORD and No Lock Screen in regedit but cannot find it.

I have disliked this "feature" since windows 7 and I see they still have not restored the ability to manually sort without having to give every file a "tag". Note: I do not want to use windows live essentials as I hate photo gallery, so this is not an option. I used to be able to arrange my photos by dragging and dropping them next to another similar photo and it would snap to grid where I dropped it. This eliminate duplicate pictures. I found this ink for windows 7:
Windows Explorer Auto Arrange - Disable. However it says very clearly at the beginning not to use it for any other OS versions. Does this works for windows 10 as well or if there is a way to do it in windows 10? I would prefer a 3rd party program as oppose to editing my registry if it can work (all the things that need "fixing" for customization in windows 10 seem to always suggest a reg fix, but I am afraid to edit my registry too much).
