Jan 12, 2016My current Intel i7 4770K desktop is running Windows 8.1 Pro 64-Bit with Windows Media Center (WMC), which is not available on Windows 10. Since I'm planning to upgrade to Win 10 Pro, I'm concerned that Microsoft's offering of Windows DVD Player won't have equivalent functionality to that of WMC.

Aug 30, 2015Still trying to figure out what it is that keeps waking up my computer from sleep.
I looked in the event logs and found this:
The system has returned from a low power state.
Sleep Time: 2015-08-30T03:12:34.409741300Z
Wake Time: 2015-08-30T03:30:51.010471500Z
Wake Source: Timer - Windows will execute 'NT TASKMicrosoftWindowsMedia Centermcupdate_scheduled' scheduled task that requested waking the computer.
What I don't understand is why is mcupdate waking the computer if Media Center was removed from Windows 10.
But more importantly how do I stop this from happening?

Sep 8, 2015My monitor keeps turning on in the middle of the night (desktop on 24x7) and I went through the power settings (advanced) and turned off network/keyboard/mouse pwr mgmnt in device manager. It still keeps turning on overnight but I don't know specific time.
Under powercfg - waketimers I see one entry for mcupdate scheduled. I went into turn windows features on/off via control panel and under Media there is only Media Player, there is no Windows Media Center that I could uncheck. How can I turn this *feature* off and hopefully it won't impact windows updates, my malwarebytes or avast scans (which both run after midnight at some point).
I was thinking it was Avast turning on monitor to display results of scan. Only issue it sees every night is unable to access my Outlook *.ost files for 2 email accounts. I think I just need to know how to disable the mcupdate task but haven't found exactly where to do this. What is turning my monitor on overnight. I physically turn it off when done using the PC and this only happens overnight while asleep.

Aug 4, 2015I can no longer use Search/Cortana as the Windows icon or Windows key are unresponsive and there is no way to open Search the web and Windows. Also, can no longer open Action Center.
Everything was working fine after upgrade from Windows 7 for awhile, then the above happened. (except for Action Center). After a clean install, things went well for awhile, and then started having the same problems again.
Antivirus :: Turn On Windows Security Center Service Nagging Message
Aug 20, 2015Every time I switch on my PC, after about 5 minutes, I get this annoying notification (see picture) from my OS asking me to turn on the security center service; please, note that, on my PC, I am judge, jury and executioner, meaning I decide what stays on and off, at least I've always been so although now, with Windows 10, this has become somehow more difficult. So, yes, I have turned off the security center service because I don't need it and I don't want it! Furthermore.
Now. I've tried disabling every possible notification I could find under the notification menu and the security center one; I've Googled for a solution but I haven't found anything: apparently, everybody loves this service.
While I'm here, is it possible to obtain system privileges in Windows 10? I've tried the old trick with the cmd task but it doesn't work anymore: the cmd windows does open and with "system" as well but it's not interactive apparently.

Feb 26, 2016I just noticed in the Task Manager a while ago that "Windows Driver Foundation - User-mode Driver Framework Host Process" under "Background Processes" was running at about 50% of CPU constantly. I did some research and found out that this only seems to happen when Windows Media Player is running. It seems to happen even when Windows Media Player is not doing anything, when it's not even scanning for new media. When I close Windows Media Player, the "Windows Driver Foundation - User-mode Driver Framework Host Process" CPU usage drops immediately to 0%.

Installation :: Media Creation Tool Install On New SSD
Aug 28, 2015In July I downloaded the Media Creation tool and created an USB version of the 29th release. I then used it to upgrade 2 pcs successfully. Now, I think I want to do a 'clean install' on a new ssd on another machine. Can I to I clean install with that USB? Seems to me I would have to have a product key or something like that to do an install on the blank ssd. If so where would I get one?

Feb 3, 2016I did an update a week ago and after that Windows 10 will boot to black screen without cursor.
When booting I get sometimes "Automatic repairs", I see the initial logo. After some minutes the screen goes back and that's it.
When I try to boot from an USB the same happens - I cannot get even to re-install Windows. The USB works on another PC just fine.
I booted from Linux and deleted the hiberfil.sys file, checked all the partitions of the disk (in this case SSD) with GParted- no issues.
I really don't know how to get even to the advanced options and try to reset or run command prompt.

Aug 13, 2015I'm a student and my university has a subscription to Dreamspark, so I got a Win10 key, along with an ISO-file from there. I'm using a Lenovo G700 and trying to perform a clean install from a bootable USB-stick.
I have tried creating this USB-stick with the "Win7 USB DVD Download Tool", using different guides from the internet with NTFS and Fat32 filesystem, launching the setup normally and through UEFI, using the "Media Creation Tool" ([URL]) to create the USB-stick directly and downloading the ISO file first and creating a bootable USB-stick from that with all the methods above, but no matter which of these methods I use, I get the following error during installation:
"A media driver your computer needs is missing." (URL)
Unfortunatley, I am currently running Win7 Pro x64 on my laptop and the following page says, that the upgrade to Win10 only works from Win8.1, not Win7: [URL]
When I try to use the "Media Creation Tool" to instantly perform an upgrade, I get the following error:
"Something happened... 0x80070422 - 0x90016"
What drivers could the installation possibly be missing? I don't have any external devices plugged in, except for the bootable USB-stick, of course. I tried downloading all drivers for Win7 x64 and Win10 x64 from the Lenovo page ([URL])
Installation :: Unable To Create Install From Media Creation Tool On Win7
Nov 15, 2015I am currently running Win7 Ultimate service pack 1 and am trying to create an installation of Win10 on a flash drive before I replace some parts inside my PC that will require an OS refresh. Unfortunately I am stuck at this screen.
I am sure my OS version is activated and I have extracted my windows key via Magical Jelly Bean finder but it rejected that key.
P.S. any PC stats linked to this account are a different piece of hardware

Mar 24, 2016Am trying to re-install iCloud on a 32 bit machine and keep getting the error message that I am missing media features and to download them. I have downloaded the Media Feature Pack for N and KN versions of Windows 10 and installed, but no luck.
Have tried the "Turn windows features on and off" trick to see if WMP was unticked and do not have any Media Features options at all.
Computer seems to have wmp in C:Program Files (x86)Windows Media Player, but cannot run it as it is saying that it is not properly installed and needs to be reinstalled. Clicking on the link takes me here:

Aug 17, 2015Win 10 - DVD Player, Windows Media Player not compatible with Win 10? This is a shock!! I downloaded the Windows Media Player from the Store and it played the DVD once. When it did not work a second time, I spent 45 mins waiting for Microsoft support and an hour on the phone. They confirmed that the Windows Media Player is not compatible with Win 10. I got my money back but no one could give me a Media Player that is compatible with Win 10.
