Customization :: How To Remove Quick Access
Aug 18, 2015
How can I remove "quick access", or at least change the option to point to a file in the folder where I save it.
Only after saving several files that were directed to "My Documents" (not on C: drive) did I find that I couldn't locate them. I finally found them on "quick access".

For Pinned items in Quick Access in Win10 Navigation pane, a gray Pin icon is displayed beside each item.
Can it be removed or made transparent with Reshacker?
Note: I wanted to keep the Quick access feature so that I can still drag and drop in Nav pane.

I'm not a fan of quick access/frequent folder/recent files. I liked the windows 8 system. Reason is because I don't want people who use my computer to have quick access to files that are personal or nsfw.
I don't to use a type of security system because I use my computer often at work and at home so it would waste time. I just want to avoid those moments when people borrow my computer spontaneously and Quick Access is the first thing in the files explorer. I just want to classic file explorer system.

I'm not sure when it started, but all of a sudden I discovered that I did not have the ability to Drag and Drop a file from File Explorer's right pane to the left pane. I get the circle with line through it indicating that I can't do that. I can drag and drop a file within the right pane but not to the left pane. To move a file, I could only copy or cut and paste.
I wondered if some of the registry tweaks that I performed to clean up the Navigation Pane some days earlier might be causing the anomaly. I had followed Shawn's tutorials to remove Videos, Pictures and Music folders. I also removed HomeGroup and Quick Access. His instructions worked flawlessly.
To see if any of those tweaks was causing the DnD problem, I systematically reversed each one, one at a time. Here is my finding.
As soon as I restored Quick access my ability to Drag and Drop in File Explorer was restored! To verify my findings, I removed Quick access and lost my DnD again. Restored it a regained DnD again. I Hope this can be useful for those who are having the DnD problem.

You used to be able to change the names of the items in quick access - like you can a shortcut - in Windows 8, but now you can't. Other than replacing all of them with shortcuts, any way of changing this?

I have turned on "show recently used files in quick access" and "Show frequently used folders in quick access" , but still nothing show up on the quick access tab, even though ive accessed many files and folders. Also i can't pin any folders to the quick access.

While it shows recent files, somehow my pinned folders were removed.
This is after doing a clean installation of Windows 10 (via Reset my PC post-upgrade from 8.1 Pro).
Here's the dialogue box when I try to pin my user folder to Quick Access:
Here's what my Quick Access folder looks like:
As you can see, my recent files show up, but my pinned folders have disappeared and Windows does not allow me to pin any folders at all (via error above).

I upgraded to Windows 10 several months ago and the Quick Access menu was working normally. A few months back however, all of the pinned items disappeared and I cannot pin anything to the quick access menu either.
I can find and all I have been able to do is temporarily fix the problem by deleting the "5f7b5f1e01b83767.automaticDestinations-ms" file in the C:UsersRobAppDataRoamingMicrosoftWindowsRecentAutomaticDestinations folder.
Deleting this file does bring back the quick access folders that I had pinned before this problem started to happen, but every time I restart my computer, the quick access menu is again empty and nothing can be pinned to it.

This all started when something happened to my registry and I was unable to create new folders.
On my "Quick Access" tab in my File Explorer, it duplicated all the folders. At first I thought it would simply correct itself if I restarted my laptop, but it made it worse. Now the duplicated folders have no names and I can not delete them because an error pops up saying that the folder does not exist.

How do you remove Quick access from the left side of your folders when you have the navigation enabled? I can remove all of the icons under it just fine, but I cannot remove Quick access as a whole.

I went to customize the bar but when I clicked on "Customize Quick Access Toolbar" nothing happens. All I can do is add or delete the six options that is presented. I previously customized it and used that a lot! It is a deal breaker for me. Any work around or should a buy CD and reinstall 8.1 which came on the machine?

I can't seem to remove them. I have right clicked it but there is not delete option. My only option to get rid of them is to delete the folder which are originally in "documents" which I don't want to do. However, even when I delete the folders from documents, the folder on the sides will be replaced with another folder.
(The folder faces, graphics and tactics are for a game if you were wondering.)

Today after starting my computer, I realized that quick access items disappeared and I am unable to pin anything.
In addition, all pinned items in the menu that appears when you right click on the file explorer disappeared as well.
I am attaching images to clarify the issues. How to solve?

I want to add shortcut link of one of the folder location to "Quick Access" in Windows 10 x64.
In the case of Windows 10 x86 I used to put my shortcut link in the folder "C:Usersuser_nameLinks" & it showed me shortcut in favorites at left side. Also it works using this command :
Code:
mklink /D %USERPROFILE%LinksMyFolder C:MyFolder
I want to do same thing for Windows 10 x64. So I try to use that command on Windows 10 x64 also I have tried to directly copy shortcut & pasted into the location of Quick Access.
But, still it's not showing in left panel of Quick Access.
So, how to do that on Windows 10 x64 ? (or perhaps through Registry) ?.

While trying to tweak Quick Access, I somehow broke it and no matter what I do, it is stuck as shown in the screenshot. It doesn't get removed or restored with the registry keys but I am also unable to add or pin anything to it and recent files/folders are not displayed.
is there a way to restore it? (Using 64-bit Windows 10 final build)

I am having problem adding folders from a network drive to the Quick Access.
Firstly I can only drag and drop into the QA in explorer, as right clicking option doesn't work and it only allows one folder at a time to be included. Local folders are not a problem and any number can be included in QA.
Also pinning files to taskbar apps has a similar problem if they are on the network drive.

I am getting a bit frustrated with Windows 10 Pro and not sure what to try. So I do not want to use OneDrive or Quick Access. One of the first things I did was go to folder options and changed "open file explorer to:" this PC instead of quick access. I then unchecked both quick access options under privacy. So now when I hit start and select downloads, pictures, or file explorer, it actually opens to this PC. Not documents though. It still opens to quick access every time. I tried a restart, still nothing.

I seem to have lost Desktop as a print to and Quick Access location. Seemed to coincide with this past Tuesday's update (3/1/16). Also lost Desktop as a print to location.

When I try to drag shotcuts to it, it shows a no symbol (red circle with a dash through it) no matter which item I try to add to it. I had no problem adding anything in it every time I upgraded or reinstalled Windows 10 but after the last reinstall I'm having this problem. I suspect that this could get resolved by some registry hack.

When I download a pdf file (A billing statement in this case), I would like to select "Save As" and be able to select the folder directly from one of the folders shown in Quick Access that is shown in File Explorer without having to rummage through all the folders on my three drives. Right now, "Save As" causes the folder selection to start with My PC. Is there an easy way for the list of folders in Quick Access to be displayed when I select "Save As" to save the file? Starting in My PC makes me go through the mess of finding the folder in which I want to save the file.
