View 4 RepliesMy setup uses two monitors. I am running a screen saver (a very old one by Firehand which works fine) but I can't get it to work the way I want with the two screens. At present when it kicks in, the displayed image alternates between the two monitors. One displays the new image and the previous one on the other monitor goes to blank screen and so on.
I am sure that when I used it with Windows 8.1 it worked as I want - each image remains on screen until it is replaced. i.e. I have the current image on one monitor the and past image on the other, then it switches and a new image appears on a monitor with the previous image remaining on the other one.
A possibly related issue is that although I have the desktop image set to change every few minutes it doesn't do so and I have a different image on each monitor (which is fine). But why won't they change?
I set the screen saver to " blank" and " 10 min. " and at some point it re-sets and won't initialize and the time is set to " 1 min. " It never comes on at that point.
So, I set it again. and again at some point it's back to as if it was not set again.
At first I thought it was just me not doing something right but it happened to my Mom's computer as well.
Update : It seems to change when I shutdown and then start up in the morning as well as any re-boot.
I have a few personal photos set up to show as a screen saver. When I preview the settings all is fine. When screen saver starts, it runs through the photos and then the screen goes black with a message about an error stopped screen saver from running. It doesn't tell me what error or any other information. The setup is the same as I have on another PC only with fewer pictures.
View 5 RepliesMy screen saver does not work when my computer is turned on. I have to "restart" it and then the screen saver works.
I have not added anything or changed anything and all of a sudden for the past four days this has cropped up.
I have the bare minimum items in my start up folder.
Why do my screen saver settings change after a reboot?
View 1 RepliesI have a screen saver that was a bonus feature of a Hidden Object Game I played. After I removed the game I still had the screen saver files in the game's program directory however it no longer worked. I looked up online somewhere that there are three directories that are used for screen savers on windows 10 (just to make life complicated! as far as I know in previous windows version there was on directory for them!). The directories I found are as follows:
C:WindowsC:Windowssystem32C:WindowsSysWOW64 (on 64-bit versions of Windows. So I copied and pasted all the files for the screen saver into each of these directories. In the screensaver settings window it lists the screen saver I am trying to use and shows it in the little monitor preview box. however when I actually click the preview button to see if it is working I get a black screen and nothing else. When I click the mouse I get the chime error sound. So I alt+tab to get out of it and there is an error window. I saved the error log and this is what it contained (never mind the times at the beginning of each line, that's just reflective of when the error occurred and when I saved the log):
12:49:26 PM: Cannot enumerate files in directory 'C:/WINDOWS/system32/Com/dmp' (error 5: access is denied.)
12:49:26 PM: Cannot enumerate files in directory 'C:/WINDOWS/system32/config' (error 5: access is denied.)
12:49:26 PM: Cannot enumerate files in directory 'C:/WINDOWS/system32/inetsrv/Config' (error 5: access is denied.)
12:49:26 PM: Cannot enumerate files in directory 'C:/WINDOWS/system32/LogFiles/Fax/Incoming' (error 5: access is denied.)

how to fix it so my screen saver will work properly? I realize that screen savers are a relic of the past but in my case it's actually useful because it keeps my monitor from turning off and my pc from going into standby when I am in the middle of doing something but have to step away for a moment to answer the phone, or door or whatever.
My screen saver is set to display my Pictures on Shuffle after a minute, then go to Sleep after 25mns. There is nothing wrong with my Power settings, as that goes off OK, as one person had trouble with both. I upgraded to Windows 10 a couple of weeks ago from Windows 7 without any problems, and my screen saver has actually come on once since doing this.
I have changed to a WI FI modem about a week ago, but I'm sure the I had this when the screen saver came on. I do have a Logie Tech Skype auto mic plugged in which I don't use regularly, but haven't tried unplugging this to see. Everything worked perfectly with W7 and WXP before that. Even with these though, I did used to have the odd time when the screen saver didn't come on, but it always righted itself. Just wondering why, if it worked once, that it doesn't work now. My Desk Top just stays put for 25mns now that the screen saver doesn't come on, then goes to Sleep, but I know I could change the time for this.
Even if we don't need a screen saver now, I liked to see MY Pictures slideshow coming up, as they looked really nice. If it is a Microsoft Error, then I hope they will fix it. Mine's not due to poor maintenance, as I have AVG Tune-up and Security installed as well as the AVG anti-virus. The Tune-up keeps the Registry clean and cleans up the Desk Top and space management etc.
Screen saver will not start. No shutdown, sleep, etc. using the Power Management. Stays on desktop forever. Can shut it down manually, but not using the Power Mgmt tools.
View 11 RepliesI have searched all the posts about screen savers not working - it seems the only ones solved had to do with game devices interfering. I have W10 preinstalled on a new desktop computer and no gaming devices. When I go to the screen saver settings, it is always set at turning on after 1 minute, but it never does. If I put it at another time and keep the computer on, the screen saver works, but as others have found, if I shut down the computer, I'm back at no screen saver again. MS must have a fix for this since others have found this too.
View 8 RepliesWhen I turn on my computer in the morning the screen saver (after my setting of 2 minutes) does not come on.HOWEVER when I restart the computer the screen saver works properly. This happened without my adding or changing anything.I am running a Dell machine with 12GB of ram running Windows 10. I have my settings to update automatically.I have tried to locate through auto update as to what has been installed but I cannot seem to locate what might have caused this problem.
View 1 RepliesI use a program that turns the screen saver into a mail notification. All of a sudden the screen saver doesn't update. Just shows the same still even if I uninstall and reinstall the program. Tried to clean registry too. where Windows 10 stores the screen saver information so I can delete it?
View 2 RepliesI have upgraded three different machines to Windows 10 in the past month, and all three (two desktops and a laptop) have the same problem. I can't open the dialogue window for screen saver settings. When I click the settings link in "personalization", nothing happens. (It's not grayed out, it just doesn't do anything.) I can try to run it from a Cortana search, and nothing happens. I can try to run a CMD line commend, and nothing happens.
This isn't a problem with USB peripherals; I have nothing plugged into the desktops other than a keyboard and mouse. Nothing at all plugged into the laptop. I don't have gaming apps or flight simulators or anything else running. These are very clean systems that were running flawlessly until the Windows 10 upgrade. And the SS problem started immediately after the upgrades.
When watching a full-screen video, my screen saver slide show tries to start. It blacks out the screen and the pictures start showing after a few seconds. That didn't happen with my XP and Windows 7 installations.
View 4 RepliesI've set up screen saver to show my pictures. It works fine during the day. If I turn off my computer at night and turn it on in the morning the screen saver does not work.
View 3 RepliesI was just wondering if there was a way to customize the background of the screen where you are prompted to enter the background
View 1 RepliesI'm not 100% sure what it does exactly. Does it disable the auto update of programs? Does it make some apps and stuff not work?
View 9 RepliesOK.. I have a laptop where the battery charging is broken so it has zero battery and needs be on mains all the time. I use it to test Windows 10.. (just installed build 10074).
the problem is, is that it will not install updates. it finds updates. but it looks like battery saver is on - so it says to put it on mains (but it IS on mains!!!) and will not download.
If I go to 'battery saver' in settings it is on and the radio button to turn off is greyed out.. There seems to be no way I can turn this battery saver feature off (I guess because I low on battery.. so I now in a catch 22) so it will do its updates..
How I can turn battery save off? I guess there must be a registry key somewhere..
Since I installed Windows 10 and I set up the power saver to recommended settings:
Turn of the display: 10 min
Go to slip: Never
It always change by itself to:
Turn of the display: Never
I do not know what to do to keep the settings I saved

View 1 RepliesI've had this since i got windows 10 and basically i cant change my lockcreen, i cant change what type of lock screen i have eg (spotlight, slideshow, picture) its just stuck on spotlight.
View 1 RepliesI've noticed that while with Vista you could choose as a background screen the folder Pictures and the slideshow would includes all the sub folders as well, now you can choose only a specific folder ( if you choose Pictures and it contains only sub folders the screen get stuck with the last picture displayed ).
