View 4 RepliesI hope this hasn't been already asked. I'm trying to get my "Start Menu" to look similar to the below right image. I've read tutorials and I simply do not have or can not find the "Customize Start Menu" dialogue box. I am currently running the final release of Windows 10 Enterprise x64.
View 9 RepliesI wanted to add some programs to the top of the left side of the start menu (free space on the screenshoot). I have read about the "Pin to Start List" if you rightclick while holding shift. But this seems not to be working anymore!?!?! Is there another possibility to customize this list or to re-add the function? I don't want to use "recently added apps" or something like that ...
View 9 RepliesI want like Windows 7, I see the file shortcuts (not folders) at the top of start menu rather than in its alphabet folder.
I also want to disable showing alphabets A~Z and just show folders sorted by name.
Where are start menu tiles (pinned shortcuts) stored? I can't find them. I want to customize the start menu and back it up to deploy elsewhere.
View 1 RepliesI can't pin shortcuts to start menu , i tried drag and drop , but it won't let me. I also don't have a "Start Menu' tab in taskbar properties.
View 9 RepliesI know how to add and remove things from the Start menu but is it possible to add more Groups? I can only see 4, which can be renamed, but I'd like a few more in order to organise my icons.
View 1 RepliesHere's a way to create a pretty convincing looking Menu using your Taskbar.Try it out yourself.(click on the image 2 or 3 times if you find it hard to read). You'll have to loose the Search Box and Taskview as well.

Settings > Personalization > Start > Choose which folder appear on Start. I need to enable ONLY the following ones:
File Explorer
Settings
Documents
Downloads
Personal Folder
As usual via registry!
In Windows 7 the key was:
[HKEY_CURRENT_USERSOFTWAREMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionExplorerAdvanced]
For example: "Start_ShowDownloads"=dword:00000001
But in Windows 10 registry address is changed I think. What is the new address?
How to do it? I removed a couple of apps from there and they either get replaced by a random program or disappear.
View 1 RepliesI haven't been impressed with configuring the Start Menu so far. I would like to be able to create new groups in the Start Menu, including the fancy tiles and be able to create my own shortcuts in each group.
I looked at the tutorial All apps in Start menu - Add or Remove Items in Windows 10 but this doesn't work as described. I tried creating a group for all users and copying shortcuts to that group but some items are not shown.
I've installed Classic Shell which I've been using in Windows 8. This gives all the features I need and also still lets you use the standard Windows menu giving you the best of both worlds.
While running the newest Insider build (10532) I do not see an option to customize the Start Menu. What I wanted was when right-clicking and seeing the list having "Devices & Printers" listed as an option. As it is not there, there is also no apparent way to add it...?
View 3 RepliesIn continuing the Windows 8 tradition, let's see your Start Screen or your Menu if you're into that! I haven't done much here yet, this is my VM to toy around with before I install onto my SSD.
Have to say, I really want the Windows 8 style Start back. Muscle memory has me wanting to hit Start, and then quickly mouse over to the This PC tile in the lower left corner. There is no more lower left corner.
I just re-installed my computer and I can't remember the names of those third-part programs that you could use to change your start menu to look like win 7, the free ones.
View 4 RepliesIm trying to sort out a problem, recently I noticed that I cant add tiles to the start menu, I cant delete ones already there, I cant move them where I want them to be and that the *context* menu that appears when I right click on the tiles already pinned to the start menu only contains the work "more" with an arrow that opens a sub menu giving me a few options but nothing about unpinning from the start menu or choosing the size of the tile, I am given the option to pin to the taskbar (ive tried it and that does work). Searching for answers in the forum I came across one called "cannot move start menu tiles".
As a last resort and one I was sure would sort the problem out, and that was to perform an upgrade repair. Well it made no difference to my start menu tiles. I have windows 10 loaded on an older hp laptop (cq57) and the whole process took slightly more that 6 hours to complete. Since I don't often customise my start menu tiles I cant say when the problem began and therefore narrow the cause down to a conflict with an installed program or something else. I do remember that about a month ago that my pc took a long time to shut down but no error messages popped up and it did eventually shut down. I also remember that suddenly my Microsoft office outlook 2016 started freezing when I used the program to create a new email or when I replied to an email I received.
In trying to sort out that problem I think I may have caused this start menu tile problem, I read somewhere on the internet that I needed to belong to a special group of administrators to perform one of the things I had to do. It didn't change anything after I joined this special group so I uninstalled ms office and then reinstalled it and the new email, reply to an email was working fine. That's when I noticed the start menu tile problem and that was about a month ago. One thing I read somewhere that I need to modify an administrator template.
I am trying to customize my Start menu but am unable to do so. How to do this?
View 9 RepliesI have show folders enabled for the start menu documents photos videos ect, I would like to change them to large icons
View 1 RepliesI upgraded from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10.
When I first installed Windows 10 the Start Menu had categories like "Life at a glance" and so on. However, I removed all of the tiles because at that time I felt like I didn't need them.
Now, I would really like to have the News tile and Weather tiles back but adding them to Start Menu doesn't seem to be able to activate the Animated versions that I had of these tiles when I first installed Windows 10. Like shown:
As you can see in the above image the "News tile" has a live picture and title relating to certain news whilst mine is a static tile and doesn't act this way. I have tried turning Live Tile on and also making the tile larger in size.
I cannot for the life of me figure out how to make the tiles animated again.
So I generally like the W10 start menu with the exception of the alphabet soup in my all apps listings. It's making it look very cluttered and actually disorganized even though everything is obviously listed alphabetically.
Is there a way to turn off the alphabet letters and just list everything that I have in there alphabetically without needing to show me
A
B
C
D
E
etc...
??
If I change a icon to small that is pinned to start I loose the icon.It comes back if I change to medium, just started with new build 10586
View 1 Replieshow to increase the font size and/or font type in the start menu? All the regular "personalize" options are basically for desktop and text and borders and the like, but nothing for the menu itself. Turning the magnifier on is NOT practical.
View 7 RepliesI have tried creating a folder in every known location to get an additional folder to show up in the start menu so I can throw some games and what not under it..I've tried creating a folder named "Games" in the following:
C:ProgramData
C:UsersmynameAppDataLocal
C:Program Files
C:Program Files (x86)
C:ProgramDataMicrosoftWindowsStart MenuPrograms
Apparently the 0-Z list doesn't read any of these directories, but I am baffled that my Nvidia driver created a folder and it shows up under "N" just fine...I'm assuming this is some type of regedit but I have no clue where to begin.
Just a question about the default start menu/tiles. Originally I didn't like the look of the tiles so I removed them however now I'm thinking I may actually like them. So is there a way I can get the default start menu/tiles back?
View 5 RepliesWhen a new program is installed it displays 'New' next to it and next to 'all apps' in the start menu, any way to disable?
View 1 RepliesWhy is it that some programs (like Edge, which I don't use), can have a bigger tile, on the start menu, and others (like Firefox, which I use) don't?
View 4 RepliesIs it possible to swap out the default icon with custom one? I use to use a app called OblyTile within Windows 8 and would swap out my icons with custom ones. Is there anyway to do this in W10?
