Customization :: OneDrive Storage On MicroSD Card (Dell Tablet)
Sep 21, 2015
This is a strange problem that only seems to happen on Windows 10. I have a Dell Venue 8 Pro, which shipped with Windows 8 (it may have been 8.1, can't remember)
Well, the problem with it is that it only has a 32GB on-board flash memory. After the OS and drivers are installed, there's only about 18GB usable for me.
I have around 16GB worth of files on OneDrive... you see the problem here? And that's only going to get bigger as I add more. So what I did before on 8 and am attempting to recreate now on 10 - I have a 64GB MicroSD card inserted, formatted as NTFS (because in Win8, you could only put OneDrive storage on NTFS, not exFAT or anything else). I made a folder called Danny's Data, and then went into C:/Users/Danny and changed "location" of each folder to that folder. Desktop, documents, pictures, music, videos, etc.
It was able to successfully move the locations there, so when I put any files on my desktop, they're *actually* stored on that MicroSD and not taking up precious flash memory space.
But for some reason, OneDrive refuses to move to it. I tried to change the location using the OneDrive software itself, and it gave me a message saying that location could not be used. I tried creating a symlink and it would give an error saying it "cannot find the files" even though they're obviously there.
I even tried opening up the registry editor, searching for C:/Users/Danny/OneDrive and changing it to D:/Danny's Data/OneDrive (it was in there 3 times, or possibly 4, I forget) and rebooting - got that same error that it can't find the files.

I had my systems set up to store a copy of the stuff I had on OneDrive on the local PC's under Windows 8.1. Since I upgrade to W10 that option has disappeared? Am I missing something? I have Googled and Binged and can't find anything specific to W10 and the W8 explanation ain't there no more in W10! I really liked the ability to access my OneDrive Stuff if/when the internet is down.

I have a lot of photos on Dropbox and wanted to switch them over to OneDrive, as my Dropbox was full and I have unlimited OneDrive space so I may as well utilize it, but after moving everything over, all the photos are showing up in the OneDrive folder in Windows Explorer. The folder is taking up the same amount of space as what I had saved to Dropbox. What is the point of OneDrive cloud space if I have to download everything to my desktop anyway?

Just got off the phone with Microsoft. They said that this option is not currently supported. In fact, they told me there was no way to even move the Onedrive directory. This was the big selling point for buying a tablet with limited storage.

I am really missing the ability to easily see how much storage space is left on each of my drives. Why is this not easily seen just by opening "This PC" like it was in Windows 7. It seems like I have to click on properties in order to see disk usage.

I need to store files at a location other than my SSD boot drive. I right click on a folder icon e.g., "downloads" and go to properties/location and change the drive letter. I go to the icon, right click and the location has been changed.
However, downloads continue to go to C:users/myname/downloads.
How do I change where files are sent by default?

I really tried to like Win 10, but the mail not syncing, the virtual keyboard resetting all the time, not having Cortana or offline map in my region, oh and of course all the various BSODs made me give up after a month. It has promise, it may become a great OS, but right NOW, I simply can not work with it.
So anyway, I am on a Asus Vivo Note 8 tablet, I deleted windows.old after the install because of the lack of space.
I have a factory-made Recovery drive in the shape of a Micro SD card, which I plugged in, hit Reset system, just to end up with a clean install of Windows...10...
I read that you can download Win 8 to an USB and install it from there, but I DO HAVE a Recovery Drive so I'd like to use that, it has custom made drivers and MS Office and whatnot on it too. The problem is that I can not start the process. It will not auto-start if I plug the SD card in, it won't start by double clicking on it, and if I open it in explorer, there's only a folder called Sources with absolutely nothing on it.
Can I just randomly format the SSD and stick the SD card in and start the install or something?

I'm finding the taskbar to be useful in desktop mode (where I tend to be using more apps), but to be a waste of space in tablet mode (where I want a full-screen experience). Is there any way to set the taskbar to auto-hide only in tablet mode?

Is it possible to have the apps pane (burger menu top left corner) remain open when viewing the start screen I find this screen extremely dull compared to 8.1, I think the lack of colour has a big impact.

I have a Cherry Mobile Alpha Morph that works without problems aside from the fact that, when I undock it from the keyboard, it doesn't detect that it should now be in Tablet Mode. I have to manually go to the Action Center and toggle it there. Same with docking it back. I have already checked my settings and I didn't disable Tablet Mode either.
how I can resolve this? I just want to seamlessly dock and undock the tablet and it should switch to tablet or desktop mode respectively.
I don't know if it's relevant but the OS is Windows 10 Home Single Language.

I actually do use OneDrive, and I am not trying to remove the app entirely. However, it seems like if I remove the OneDrive folder from my libraries (music, pictures, documents), next boot they show right back up.
This is incredibly annoying as I actually want my folders isolated... Documents is my local documents, and only the stuff I want put in the cloud is in OneDrive.

I would like the OneDrive icon to be hidden/removed from File Explorer on my 64 bit Windows 10 Home device. I find the same steps all over the that don't seem to work for me involving setting two flags in the registry as follows:
Set the System.IsPinnedToNameSpaceTree DWORD value to 0 for both of the following:
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOTCLSID{018D5C66-4533-4307-9B53-224DE2ED1FE6}
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOTWow6432NodeCLSID{018D5C66-4533-4307-9B53-224DE2ED1FE6}
I've set them both on and off, restarting inbetween, several times but it doesn't seem to affect OneDrive in the File Manager. The other option presented is ripping OneDrive out completely but that doesn't seem to work for me as well. Those instructions involve killing the OneDrive process and then removing it using the following commands:
64-bit edition of Windows 10: %SystemRoot%System32OneDriveSetup.exe /uninstall
32-bit edition of Windows 10: %SystemRoot%SysWOW64OneDriveSetup.exe /uninstall
I've though I'm running 64-bit Windows 10 I don't even have OneDriveSetup.exe in my System32 folder. I do have it in my SysWoW64 folder but when I run it with the /uninstall switch nothing seems to happen and the OneDrive icon remains in File Explorer.

how to get rid of "Documents" folder created by OneDrive for Business? See the below screen
This PC 'Folders' - Add or Remove in Windows 10
The above mentioned tricks don't work for this particular folder and I can't really find it in the Registry...
I was hoping this was this one {24D89E24-2F19-4534-9DDE-6A6671FBB8FE} described as "OneDrive Documents" but the well-know trick with adding "ThisPCPolicy" string with "Hide" value doesn't seem to work..

What my user folders looked like at first: Notice how the OneDrive and Podcasts folders stick out due to the Windows 7/8-style folders icons. So I found an alternative OneDrive icon in the image shell32.dll in C:Windows, extracted it and used that one (Windows 10-style icon). Then I created my own podcasts icon. I used the Windows 10-style folder paired with the Zune podcast icon to create my own custom icon. Here's the end result:
All of the folders match, now!!If you're interested in getting your hands on these folder .ico files yourself,
1) Download the ico files to a permanent location
2) Start with C: then navigate to the parent folder of the folder you want to customize (like C:Users[USERFOLDER])
1. Right click the folder, select Properties
2. Select the Customize tab
3. Click "Change icon..."
4. Then click "Browse..." and find where you saved your .ico file, and select it
5. Click OK.

I have installed Windows10 on a Gateway FX530 desktop PC. All has gone well with one exception. The OS seems to recognize that there is a card reader attached, I can see them through Device manager. When I insert a SD card the system completely ignores the device and will not allow me to access it. I have tried to change the drivers, without success. This card reader worked just fine with Windows 7 Pro and there was no indication that they would not work with Windows 10 when I ran the upgrade test.

Can the C: drive be part of a pool, having all drives (including the c: drive) look like 1 drive? If so, how do I do that? I created a storage space, but it made me set it up as drive D:, and I see no way to combine it with C:.
Next: I want to have the C:/boot drive be part of the redundancy equation. I plan to use Parity. I can see where it would be if all drives looked like 1, but I don't see how it would be if not part of the pool.

I just made purchased a new computer and would like to replace the HDD with an SSD. I haven't turned on the computer yet. Could I just swap out the drives and use a windows 10 boot disk, or is it better to turn the computer on and setup the windows 10 that it came with and then clone the SDD? (This will be go in the 2.5" bay of this computer - [URL] ....).

I just did a fresh install of windows 10, and I have decided to try and start with a better form of organization. I want to try and keep my SSD with my OS on it as clear as possible. By doing that I wanted to keeps all my pictures and documents, videos, etc on my second hdd.
That is simple enough. What I want to know is if there is an easy way to have it set so every time I add pictures or music it stores on the secondary drive and still shows up in my "Pictures" file. How do you organize?

I'm running Windows 10 Pro from SSD and before I installed my storage drive (drive H) it would boot up in less than 15 seconds. With my 2TB Seagate drive installed, it has taken as long as 45 minutes to boot! Every time I start the PC, it says scanning and repairing Drive H. I have scanned the drive with SeaTools and it came up with no problems. I also scanned it from within Windows using sfc /scannow and it also found no issues. Even transferring files to the H drive, is impossible as it just stops transferring altogether and causes the PC to freeze and trying to download Steam games to it, results in a timeout error.
It is not listed in the BIOS as a boot drive so I am absolutely stumped! I have replaced SATA cables and changed the SATA port with no difference.Remove the drive and the PC boots and behaves like it should.
I have replaced the drive twice under warranty thinking that it was a drive issue, but every drive has the same problem. My other 2 HDD's (both 500Gig) have no issue like this at all.
BTW, I have my games folder on the drive, nothing else and it still has about 70% of it's capacity free. It is fine when the drive is empty, but the more data that you put on it, the more it slows the computer down until it gets to the stage where I am at the moment and nothing more can be installed or transferred onto it even though there is tons of storage space available on it.
