How can I reduce the taskbar button icon width?
Horizontal task bar works just fine but vertical task bar on left side (same problem on right side) is very wide with a small column of task icons in the center. Basically unusable when a vertical task bar is configured. I've tried with and without Classic Start Menu and it does the same thing.

View 3 RepliesHow to change the taskbar icon size? Because Windows 10 Taskbar icons looks so small too me. Here is different from Windows 10 to Windows 7.
View 7 RepliesHave Windows 10 Pro 1511 10586.17 installed but want to make the windows borders bit wider as I do not like the ultra narrow ones.
I have changed borderwidth setting in registry and have also done so with the paddedborderwidth setting but regardless of what I do to that setting, after reboot the border stays the same.
I have read everywhere on how to change the start menu width, however what I am asking for does not seem to be covered anywhere. When I open the "All Apps" section of the start menu to get to my installed programs I am unable to distinguish between some of them due to their width. (See attached screenshot)
What I want is to extend the width of the list of apps, NOT the width of the live tiles area. Seems everywhere covers how to change the width of the start menu but it only affects the live tiles area, not the app list.
I have searched through the registry and can't find anything there. Maybe I missed something?
I'm loving Win10 so far! Real improvement on Win7 (and most certainly on Win8, which I hated so much I went back!)
One thing I have noticed, that I can't seem to change... is how you set it so that icons in the start bar, go full sized once you open them? I liked that feature in Win7, as it was quicker to view what was open (without having to "read" the icons to work out what was what)
(I've attached a pic of what I mean)
Currently, my OneDrive icon is sitting in the 'hidden icons' section. I have seen pictures of the icon sitting on the taskbar next to Edge, the store, and all the other taskbar icons... how do you get that icon on the taskbar? I have tried all the normal ways I can think of (click and drag onto taskbar, going into taskbar settings, etc) but I can't get it to be removed from the hidden icons area.
View 2 RepliesIs there an easy way for an older person to get his HP laptop to bypass the welcome screen direct to the desktop in win 10? (I have already managed to stop needing to sign in etc every time I start the thing up).
View 4 RepliesMy taskbar button is unresponsive. When I click it nothing happens so I am in effect shut out of the programmes. What is the solution to this problem?
View 2 RepliesMy laptop is LENOVO G510. It came with windows 8 single language. I upgraded to windows 8.1 single language a year ago. I updated it to windows 10 home by triggering the update. The upgrade went successfully. But the problem now is the start button, applications in the taskbar(only right click) and icons on the taskbar on the right side(time, battery, wifi etc) are not working. They work if I click them after a gap of ten minutes. But if I click them for a second time immediately, they won't work.
Is it my only problem or it occured to many laptops?
So, all of a sudden while watching YouTube (with Windows 10), my computer's sound stops working.
So to try and fix this, I restart the computer. But when I sign back on, the taskbar is completely clear of all my previous apps on it and the windows button refuses to work. Even when I right click the windows button, nothing pops up.
Also, when I open up apps on my desktop (like Chrome), there is nothing on the taskbar, so if I minimize anything, I can't get it back!
For some reason i cannot set the Home button on the top bar on Microsoft Edge .I have followed the Advanced Settings with no luck.I have attached a image of what i mean.
View 5 RepliesThe left-click on my Start icon has stopped working and several reboots have not resolved the situation. My Windows key doesn't work either. I cannot launch Edge either. I'm running Windows 10 Home on a new Dell laptop.
What the heck is going on and how do I fix it? I've got apps that don't appear on my desktop which I am completely unable to use now.
For what it's worth, I can right-click the Start button since my latest reboot but I can't left-click it. (On the previous reboot, I couldn't right- or left-click it.)
I need this machine working ASAP because I use it for my job and my shift just started!
I'm running Windows 10 and have been since it was first released. This morning I was playing a game, and my sound stopped working, so I rebooted my computer to see if that would fix it. It fixed the problem, but I had no icons pinned on my taskbar, no time & date, and the search and start button would not work. After hard-booting the computer for a second time, there was still nothing. When I open a program the icon doesn't show on the taskbar.
View 5 RepliesNow & then when I start my computer, nothing appears in the task bar, the Microsoft Start button at the bottom left fails to respond to either a left or right click, the Cortana window "Ask me anything" & the Task View are also unresponsive'.
I then restart the computer either by pressing the power button for some time or by the Ctrl/Alt/Delete process. On re-starting everything is fine. What I don't know is how to prevent this problem from occurring again.
I have Window 10, just upgraded it was working great I turned my computer off and went to bed last night. Today I turn it on and now when I click the start button or windows key. The mouse just looks like it is loading, the taskbar flashes, and nothing comes up. I'm not able to use the Search Bar, however I can click my apps that are pinned to the Taskbar to open them. I can't right click on them tho to do anything with. I have tried to restart Explorer. It did nothing Also something else I think might be worth adding. I had Microsoft Edge pinned to taskbar when I turned my computer on and tried to open it is when all of this started. The Icon of Edge went black and then just removed it self from my Taskbar. Now nothing works.
View 9 RepliesI have tried everything under the sun to fix this. The search/Cortana button on the taskbar is unresponsive. Whenever I try to adjust setting under Cortana & Search I get this error:
ms-cortana://StartMode=Settings&QuerySource=Settings
The app didn't start
I have installed all updates on my windows 8.1 but I still don't see the little reserve windows 10 button on the end of my taskbar, how I can get it so I can reserve windows 10...
View 1 RepliesI upgraded windows a few months ago. about a month ago my search bar and my start button didnt work and no matter what i clicked i couldnt get it to work. I wasnt to mad about that but now i cant right click my icons and ive tried restarting windows explorer and ive googled alot. Its starting to bug me to the point where it may be better to go back to windows 7 or do a fresh install to get rid of all the problems.
View 1 RepliesI want jump lists on both taskbar and Start button, they are only showing on Start button. I have checked the registry key that controls this attribute and the value is "1" so both should show. The "Show recently opened items... " switch in Settings is set to ON. Something is supressing the jump lists on my Taskbar icons. I do get live thumbnails on the icons but that is all. Right clicking does nothing.
Windows 10 Pro is an upgrade install and did not clean install afterwards. In my opinion not needed. I have run SFC /scannow and got a clean report.
CORRECTION: The Start button is showing the context menu on right click, not the jump list, unless that IS the jump list.
Is the registry key value 1 to show the jump lists?
I cannot print email after upgrading to Windows 10 due to taskbar covering up print button at bottom of print screen
View 7 RepliesSomething has suddenly changed on my computer (I used the AOL Computer Checkup program yesterday but this problem seems to have started today). When I left click on the Start Button, nothing happens. If I right click, I get a pop-up menu that is different than the Start page and is all in black and white. I don't know if the right click menu was there before because I don't think I have ever tried that. When I right click either the Word or the Excel icons in the taskbar, nothing happens (left clicking still opens the app as usual). In the past, if I right clicked the icon I would get a pop-up menu with the files that I had pinned to the taskbar plus the most recent files that I had used that weren't pinned.
View 8 RepliesI have a Surface Pro 3, updated for Windows 10.
I have been switching in and out of tablet mode, and I find myself at a point where now my task bar are not working.
For example, when I click on the "Action Center" nothing pops up, or when I click on the WiFi icon, or Volume icon. My start button on my screen, and the physical one on the tablet itself are not working either.
I am trying to get off of tablet mode, but I can't access the Action Center do be able to get off of it.
The power icon, which isn't being displayed on the taskbar, is not selectable in the SETTINGS area, as described here...

About a week ago an icon for Recycle Bin appeared on my taskbar near the right side. (see the attached image.) Not a pin but a larger icon, just like the one residing on my desktop. In fact, it is identical, having the same right click menu. The only resolution suggested was to set up a new user account. But, as I like my setup and don't want to spend the time to recreate it in a new account, I've resolved to live with the icon.
