I upgraded to Windows 10 recently, and I've noticed something strange happening. When I boot up my computer, the desktop looks fine, but after a while, the little arrow overlays at the bottom left corner of the shortcut icons disappear. Sometimes, if left long enough, the overlay will be some weird picture (Instead of an arrow, it will be a batman picture, like from the shortcut to my Batman: Arkham Asylum games, or something else.) When I right-click on the desktop and hit refresh, it reverts back to normal, but I still want to know why it is doing this. My previous OS was Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit.

I noticed today that the usual arrow at the bottom left of desktop shortcuts has been replaced by the user icon of two figures[URL]. When I go into security properties, there are two user groups that I don't see in other files. One called INTERACTIVE, and the other called Account Unknown(S-1-5-21-4180935659-2234933324-3389827175-1000). Upon doing some research, it was said these unknown accounts can pop up when an account was deleted. I only created one account on this computer since I built it, my main account. I scanned with Malware Bytes, which came up clean. I am currently scanning with Bitdefender as well. Trying to delete the user results in a message describing how I can not remove it as it is inheriting permissions from it's parent, and that I would have to disable the inheritance feature in order to remove it.
View 1 RepliesIs it possible to place different sets of icons on different desktop ? For example, having desktop 1 empty, desktop 2 full of files, desktop 3 with shortcuts to programmes/games, etc. Also is there a way to have a different wallpaper on each desktop, to tell them apart faster ?
My guess is all of that is not possible, given that additional desktops are not supposed to be "permanent", but rather added/deleted quickly. But maybe with a bit of tweaking ?
I created shortcuts for my most used Windows 10 apps/tiles to my desktop, but some of the shortcuts have blank icons. I re-copied some and they stuck, but a few others are still blank after several retries. i.e. Scan and Store are blank but Calendar, Calculator, Photos, Weather and Alarms have the correct icons.
View 1 RepliesI had shortcut icons on the windows classic desktop in windows 10 and now they have disappeared and I cant get them to come back.
View 2 RepliesMy shortcuts all have a new double blue arrow overlay since upgrading to Windows 10565. None of my older fixes (reg edits, etc) seem to work getting rid of this new visual change.
View 2 RepliesI recently made some changes in the registry to make the shortcut icons go away as per a tutorial written by Daniel Rubinho in Windows Central. 2 days later i see black boxes around the shortcuts i have on desktop. Why this happened. How to Remove this?
View 2 Replieshow to remap my menu button on my keyboard to show the Action Center introduced in Windows 10. I found nice programs that would work IF i had a desktop shortcut that toggles the Action Center. Unfourtunatly all I found is this but it's for the old-fashioned Action Center. Is it even possible? Knowing Windows nature, it should be...
View 1 RepliesI am new to Windows 10. I am trying to place a shortcut on the desktop to put the computer to sleep. I tried following the instructions from a few sites that recommended placing a link into the desktop shortcut menu and the suggested shortcut Command does not put the computer to sleep. instead it shuts the computer down. What is the Sleep command. The wrong command is as follows: Rundll32.exe Powrprof.dll,SetSuspendState Sleep.I tried one or 2 other variations of this command and the new shortcut also turned over the computer

View 1 RepliesHow do I change the color of the taskbar, and how do I remove the arrows from the desktop icons.
View 2 Repliesdo not refer me to System/Advanced/Visual settings. I've removed every check mark in there referring to shadows and ABSOLUTELY NOTHING has changed. These shadows are making me go blind. I absolutely cannot read them.
View 9 RepliesOther than virtual desktops can Windows 10 desktop icons be grouped like Android or Apple IOS?
View 2 RepliesI was using my laptop at school, when my trackpad starts to glitch out, wherever I moved it it kept clicking and in the process did something to my taskbar; I had my desktop Icons showing on the taskbar (the desktop checkbox ticked in the 'toolbars' tab of the taskbar settings), and they were square Icons that were under my taskbar Icons, but then, after I ctrl+alt+del to stop the glitchy clicking, I went back and now my taskbar looks like this: [URL] ... the 'Desktop' Icons used to have alot more and they were square and slightly bigger than the taskbar icons.
View 3 Repliesi need to get to the same functionality as i did in Windows 7:
Personalization>Windows color and appearance>Advanced appearance settings, where I can set the font style along with bold and italic. i have searched extensively without success.
How do I change the font size of my desktop icons in Windows 10 ?
In old versions of Windows you could do that thru Control Panel Display Appearance
But i don't see that in Windows 10. How to do it ?
Cannot arrange desktop icons the way I want them.
"Align to grid" etc options turned off.
Left click & hold used to work but . . . . . .
Desktop Icons move back to the left (default) side of the screen after customizing. this happens when the the computer is put into sleep mode and is woken up or when the monitor is turned off and turned back on. I upgraded to windows 10 Pro 64bit from windows 7 ultimate 64bit. This problem never happened with windows 7.
-Automatic Sleep mode is turned off - when I manually put computer to sleep mode and wake it up the icons are rearranged
-Automatic turn off monitor has been deactivated - when shut off my monitor but keep my computer on and then turn back on the monitor the icons have rearranged
-I have small icons setting
-Auto align icons has been deactivated
-allow themes to change icons has also been deactivated

Using Win 10 single language home version. How do I remove the little shortcut arrows from the desktop icons? Tried the regedit tutorial creating new shell with file 29, but it just created little black boxes where the shortcut arrows were so I had to remove it.
View 3 RepliesShortcuts used to be indicated by a fairly unobtrusive arrow in the corner. A few days ago they changed to an overly visible white arrow in a green circle in the lower middle of the program icon. Then they changed to a gray X in the corner. Now they're back to the arrow in the green circle.
View 7 RepliesAfter checking and configuring my router I went to the regular desktop view which is plain and looks like Win7. Only the quick access, internet icon, notices, language and clock icons were visible. I had created a new toolbar which referenced the start menu in Windows Program Data. It was spread across the taskbar rather than compacted and previously available by clicking on the title Programs tucked in beside Quick Access.
There was no visible line to use with the cursor for dragging this bunch of links across into the right side area. I removed that toolbar.
The few daily use Taskbar shortcut icons when created cannot be dragged to the taskbar even if I lock it. (Browser, email, Notepad++,Everywhere search and a link to a Quick Stack popup collection of shortcuts). Any open application is not displaying on the taskbar
Considered a 'Restore' and checked the list of restore points with a utility System Restore Explorer and it lists Oct.20 as the last restore point. I'm assuming Win10 does not do a daily restore point.
The last system image is Oct.7 so several Windows updates would have to be done over and there are a couple of those. Is there a registry edit or workaround to restore the taskbar so shortcuts can be pinned there?
My challenge is that I'm running a program that refuses to retain it's taskbar setting to always show. So, everytime I reboot, I have to go to "SystemNotifications & actionsSelect which icons appear on the taskbar" and find the program (it's Choicemail) and toggle on the notification.
I have a shortcut to get me to the "SystemNotifications & actions dialog", but I'd really like to go direct to the "Select which icons appear on the taskbar" dialog.
I'd use a macro to execute, but with Windows 10 walking away from shortcut keys on most system settings, I haven't figured that out. I also don't know what CMD to use from an admin run instance to get there.
I have used the Office XP shortcut bar with every windows version up to windows 7 without problems. When I upgraded to Windows 10, the Icons only show a ? and the program associated with the icon will only execute if I right click on the icon and click either open or run as administrator. The program name associated with the icon will display when I hover over the icon.
Is there any fix for displaying the actual icon picture? I have more programs that I use daily than would fit on the task bar. I don't want to clutter my desktop with icons. The shortcut bar allows me to organize my program icons in different task bars so I would like to continue using it.
The shortcut icons on my Windows 10 desktop are enormous! How can I make them a normal size?
