View 1 RepliesRunning windows 10 64. Common dialogs on 32 bit applications do not work/appear.First i thought there was only a problem with chrome, save dialog do not work/appear and i cannot download anything, unless you config chrome for autodownload. Then i realized that it was the entire system. 32 bit application common dialogs do not work. All 64 bit applications "open", "save" file dialogs work correctly.
I cannot even open a project in Visual Studio 2015. I have installed chrome 64 and it works ok.SFC didnt fix the problem, even after deleting common controls known files, such as comdlg32.dll, comctl32.dll from syswow64. With Process Explorer from Windows SysInternals, i have found that some 32 bit programs use comctl32.dll files from C:WindowsWinSxSx86_microsoft.windows.common-controls_... folders. I have not deleted them yet to see if sfc repairs them.
I have tried to reinstall windows 10 from usb but it does not work. I have disabled all non microsoft applications and third party shell extensions from startup...nothing.The only thing i have found to fix it is disabling visual themes in compatibility options (although windows 10 does not have this option, u can set the DISABLETHEMES flag in the registry, in HKEY_CURRENT_USERSOFTWAREMicrosoftWindows NTCurrentVersionAppCompatFlagsLayers). I thought it was the solution, Visual Sutdio works after 5 days!!, but besides it ruins all the aspect of the application, i have found some other applications that still do not work, such as openiv, a GTA Editor, when i click on "Browse" to select the path for gta, the dialog does not appear.
I made a simple visual studio solution and when calling openfiledialog showdialog, it does not wait, it continues running to the next line code. Normally it opens the dialog and the program execution is "suspended" until user closes/accepts the dialog. Maybe it opens and closes immediately, i dont know, i have not been able to trace what happens after ShowDialog is called.
Five days googling the same sites and no solution. Disable Firewall, windows defender, onedrive (thinking that "old" applications do not expect to find an onedrive access in the open file dialog side panel), i do not have any other network drive, nothing works. It's the only thing that i am doing from 5 days ago, trying to fix it, seeing the same sites once and again, and it does not seem to be a common problem, or at least i am not searching properly.
Is there a known way to create your own custom shell folders or "special folders?" Default shell folders are Documents, Pictures, Downloads, etc. The benefit of a shell folder is you can place it in a Users' Personal Folder, but have the location actually be in another location (even another drive).
An example of a program adding a shell folder would be Zune with "Podcasts."
A shell folder can be identified by its "Location" tab in the properties menu.
I'd like to create my own shell folders to things like "Books" or "Programs" etc. with kinds of files I make. Sort of like a library.
have a problem with usb drivers according to my control panel which says it is fixing the issue and then tells me to reboot but it is not fixed. Keyboard lights up on start but when the first blue window appears it goes off. I can get into the bios ok and the keyboard works there. only one port is working (USB3). as my mouse and keyboard are usb and there is no PS2 port i am kinda cactus at the moment. Been searching for usb drivers for win 10 but not having any luck. Everything was working fine since November until yesterday.
View 2 RepliesNew to windows 10, I have 2 accounts both in family. When I log into my account and open File explorer, I can see all the programs copied across from my previous PC, e.g. music, pictures etc., however, when my wife logs into her account, and opens file explorer the folders are all empty. How do we share common files on a single PC using file explorer and not a network or OneDrive?

( got off pictures by removing SD card and putting it direct in laptop.)Next computer slows down and run st 55 to 60 Deg C. (air temp about 23 deg and desktop computer running at 35 deg.)
Then Blue screen telling me Video_Krnl............ failed/error.Ran restore point and system worked again for a while(2 days). Now I can only get 3 to 4 minutes before blue screening and failing. Have blown out cooling fins but little to no dust as computer is only just one year old. Regularly run AVG and Wise 365 cleaner over it.

View 1 RepliesRecently i have upgraded to Windows 10 from Windows 7. Everything was fine the first hour, then all of the sudden the mouse stopped working and it was no where to be seen. The mouse that I use is an old Logitech mouse that has a ball to control the mouse. So, I plugged in another mouse and it was working, but the clicks were backwards.
View 1 RepliesRecently discovered Windows Explorer stop working. Ran SFC /ScanNow result were some flies were repaired, which directed me to C:WindowLogCBSCBS.log, nothing found there. What to do, it was only by accident I discovered it was not working, no error messages or any signs.
View 2 RepliesThe start button on windows 10 has stopped working for me. It came right after I installed a new graphics card though in the days before I had noticed strange stuff like when I searched for an app and clicked on its icon within the start menu nothing would happen. File explorer, settings etc stills works but are very slow.
View 2 RepliesI checked on the stability report last night, and I found out that the "Get Office" app has been having issues every single day.
The computer does not crash, and there was no error message. Without examining the stability report, one would never know there's anything wrong.
I uninstalled the app, and everything seems to be fine now. I sign onto Windows locally, without using my Outlook account.
I Tried to connect to my 2 other PCs this morning. I just get a screen where it says it's 'Initialising Display parameters' but will not get past this screen.
Was working perfectly yesterday! I can take control of these same computers if I try it from my Linux Ubunto PC. So that rules out the network and all of the other PCs which are still on win7
After upgrading my Dell Inspiron 15 3521 to windows 10, my number keys stopped working.
I have updated the touchpad and keyboard drivers but they are still not working.
I tried the other day to search for a program on the start menu and it worked fine. I then set up Cortana for speech mode and all I get now when typing in the box are four blue dots scrolling at the top of the search box.
View 2 RepliesMy start menu stopped working several weeks ago and I have been trying all the suggestions found of the various forums with the exception of reloading Windows 10. It looks like Microsoft should be responsible for publishing a solution to this problem realizing how many people are having the same trouble.
View 5 RepliesI have a Logitech wireless keyboard that uses a USB device. After a update on the 10 of March my keyboard stopped working. I have tried another wireless USB keyboard Mircosoft and a a wired Microsoft keyboard without success.
I have followed a few of the suggested fixes after doing a search without success.
On October 29 the start button and the Windows 10 taskbar stopped working. I have called Microsoft tech support and chatted online five times but they have not been able to resolve the problem. Windows 10 worked alright for over a month, but then this problem occurred. I believe there was a Windows 10 update around that time.
View 9 Repliesmy most used App the Windows Weather app has stopped working, I click on it to open and it open and then closes again right away. Is there anyway I can fix this? Is it a common Win 10 app system fault with the app or is my PC specific that has the problem?
View 7 RepliesAfter upgrading to Windows 10 on my sony laptop my mouse will not come back on the screen after I close my laptop and the computer goes to sleep. I have to restart my laptop after every time my computer goes to sleep to get my mouse back on the screen. Just checked DM and the touchpad drivers are current.
View 4 RepliesMy laptop has failed, the hard drive has stopped working, my question is having purchased a 750gb replacement drive can I download win10 directly to it using my tablet and an external drive then install the drive into my laptop to complete the installation.
View 2 Repliesi uninstalled it then it started to work again ,then i reinstalled and it stop working.i don't know how to solve this
View 1 RepliesI installed the Windows 10 beta from Window 7 a few days ago. I installed all the recent updates. Everything was working fine but then yesterday, I watched something on YouTube for about an hour and at that point the mouse became unresponsive. I've tried everything I can think of but nothing works. I've shut down, re-booted, gone into the bios but with no success. Windows 10 will open but the mouse remains unresponsive. I even plugged-in a brand new mouse but that hasn't worked at all.
I have another hard drive with Windows 8.1 from my other PC that has a defective motherboard and out of frustration, I installed the drive from that PC on this one. It works but sometimes I have to re-boot my PC a few times on start-up and then if I leave a browser open for a while without activity, the browser becomes unresponsive and although the mouse cursor works, it is not able to do anything.
I installed Windows 10 on my laptop few days ago and today the internet just stopped working. I uninstalled network drivers and reinstalled them but now there is a yellow triangle showing that connections are limited. Both Wi Fi and Ethernet doesn't work. Any workaround other than refreshing?
View 5 RepliesI'm running a custom built PC with win10 and an ASUS P9X79 WS motherboard.
I did a free upgrade from windows 7 ulti to win10 pro, everything was smooth for a month on win10, and the whole year prior with windows 7, it was built within a year ago.
So these updates appeared in the win10 update section:
Intel - Other hardware - Intel® Xeon®Â E7 v2/Xeon® E5 v2/Core i7 Power Control Unit 2 - 0EC2
Intel - Other hardware - Intel® Xeon®Â E7 v2/Xeon® E5 v2/Core i7 Power Control Unit 3 - 0EC3
Intel - Other hardware - Intel® Xeon®Â E7 v2/Xeon® E5 v2/Core i7 Integrated Memory Controller 0 Target Address/Thermal Registers - 0EA8
As well as many more.
I clicked to install the updates, then nothing happened, i let it sit over night, woke up still nothing. Restarted my PC and boom.
Asus bios screen says CPU overheat/CPU fan not working. I ignored them so it would boot and here I am. I included a JPEG of speedfan's stats on my PC, showing no fans operating, as well as high temps on core 0 and such.
I then worried maybe it's unsupported and I made a rookie move doing that update. Sure enough I went online and the ASUS website indicates no support for win10 64 bit drivers for my motherboard.
Now I'm wondering how to undo such a thing, I really don't want to use windows restore, as it says it will erase ALL my apps no matter what. Which is strange to me as windows 7 was able to revert back without getting rid of a single app. I'm also wondering if there's another restore function I'm unaware of that doesn't require deleting everything I've installed app-wise.
