Customization :: Washed Out Taskbar Fonts
Dec 7, 2015Have washed out toolbar fonts? Is there a tweak to make them crisp ?

View 1 RepliesIn Windows 7 I used an aliased font for my taskbar, start menu and desktop icons, because the text looks crisp and clear. Windows 10 makes the taskbar, start menu and desktop icons' text anti-aliased (fortunately the window titles are still aliased). How can I make Windows use aliased (i.e. non-blurry) text everywhere?
View 1 RepliesI do not like the blue fonts . I have tried many on line sites . I have been thru the computer and can not find any way to change the color .
View 1 RepliesI am using windows 10 and I am trying to change the default fonts of the OS(I think is Segoe UI). I know that has been changed since windows 8, but I was able to change them so far by modifying the keys in "HKEY_CURRENT_USERControl PanelDesktopWindowMetrics" in registry(Segoe UI look terrible on my screen and I prefer Tahoma).
Since the last version of windows 10(10586) something changed regarding the fonts. Now the fonts of the right-click context menu in desktop and file explorer are somehow connected with the the fonts of the new black right-click context menu in taskbar and start menu button and the fonts of the control panel and I think the ribbon in file explorer. I came to that conclusion because when i deleted all the keys regarding Segoe UI in "HKEY_LOCAL_ MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindows NTCurrentVersionFonts", all the fonts of the above "fallback" to Arial and when I deleted only Segoe UI regular they fallback to Segoe UI italic.
As a result modifying menufont key in WindowsMetrics doesn't change the fonts in context menus of desktop and of file explorer. Menufont key still has an effect in menus of third party software like my player(MPC-HC) or in some right-click menus of windows like in the volume and network icons in taskbar. The other keys in WindowsMetrics folder(iconfont, statusfont e.t.c.) still working.
Now my question is obvious, is it possible to change the fonts in the other menus? Is there a separate key in registry regarding those fonts or are they hard-coded in some dll? Why oh why they keep changing these things?
I am a graphic designer, so I have to use helvetica, however, with windows 10 there is an issue. Some sites that use helvetica end up picking a weird version of it. One of them being paypal, uses this awful Helvetica thin compressed.
There are other sites too. Some use a Helvetica heavy oblique. The weird thing is the website itself doesn't use that specific Helvetica font.
on previous releases of Windows you could select Fonts for Window titles, menus , toolbars etc.
On two of my monitors the current fonts just look HIDEOUS and there's no way to change them -- worked fine on Windows 7.
This is going to cause BIG problems for some people if we upgrade to W10. They are using laptops - then it's fine if not using an external monitor but when plugged into decent monitors via HDMI is when the problem starts. Applications are fine but the menus / titlebars etc are almost unreadable !!!!!
For instance -- no problem typing this post on to the Forum but looking at the http address or the menu line of the browser is HIDEOUS.
Using latest INTEL HD graphics drivers.
At least on XP --->W8 you could st the individual fonts for system items such as titlebars etc.
I'm running W10 x-64 pro build 10240 (RTM).
This is a BIG showstopper.
Note it's for the WINDOWS SYSTEM stuff I need to change the fonts for -- in things like Word you can change as desired in the APPLICATION area but not the Menu area etc.
For example -- File explorer list --hideously unreadable !!!! However uploading to png you can't see how bad it is !!! but it IS unreadable on the monitor.
Where is the option to change the fonts for your icon, menu's etc... don't want to change size or colour just type.
View 8 RepliesI have poor eyesight and have setup high contrast to see things better in windows 10.Also set the font to 10 point bold and tried the 125% setting. In windows 7 I did not have this issue, I used the classic theme, and just set the fonts all bold, no problem. I think I set the DPI also to a larger setting.
But I have a problem setting up personalization settings when it comes to colors now.It does not seem to affect windows apps already installed on the computer, but .3rd party programs mostly. One in mind is the information tab in the AMD Catalyst Drivers for instance. When I open this up the background is white and the text is an unreadable light gold color. In general if I set my theme to a normal without high contrast most of the text in all apps and programs is a light gray color, which I can barely read. I've played with my ASUS monitor settings some and been able to get more contrast.
It's subtle and hard to put your finger on at first, but I noticed my eyes getting tired and getting a headache from the lack of contrast, so I plugged it into an external monitor and compared between a computer with an older build and the new build and the blacks are no longer black, they're grey and the whole contrast is muted with everything washed out.
No update available to the GPU so I had to roll back to an older build. I've still got a headache from that, hope they catch this and don't just steam ahead
Taskbar color choices are extremely limited in W10, very difficult to read tabs. What is wrong with MS.....?
I tried run<"control color">, but it was useless as well.
Is there any external tools that will allow me to customize taskbar color independently from accent colors and borders.
I saw some suggestions to modify registry, but I do not want to go this route.
This is an issue that has bugged me for years. Windows still cover autohidden taskbar!
When the taskbar is hidden, and any window is maximized or snapped, the mouse is sometimes unable to trigger the taskbar. I have to shrink the window before the mouse can touch the taskbar.
Is there any possible way to have a 3d task bar and window borders like earlier versions of Windows?Really not liking the 'flat everything' and limited customisation. By 3D I mean gradient edges that give a solid effect.
View 6 RepliesTried pinning to start and right-clicking there but there is no "pin to taskbar" option. how to put the recycle bin in my taskbar?
View 9 RepliesWhen I first upgraded, the taskbar on my first display was located on the left side of the display and the taskbar on my second display was located on the bottom. I liked this. But I wanted to see how I'd like having both on left hand side. I went into taskbar properties. `Taskbar location on screen` was set to `custom` and I changed it to `left`.
I decided I didn't like this and wanted to change it back. But `custom` no longer appeared in this drop down and I couldn't find any other option to change them separately. Is there any way to change it back? Perhaps a specific registry key?
UNPIN UNWANTED ICONS FROM TASK BAR I just upgraded two systems to Win 10 this weekend but am having trouble finding out how to remove unwanted icons from the task bar.
DesktopDownloadsPicturesDocumentsMusic
These take up space I prefer to use for desired icons. I don't need or want them there but there is no "un-pin" option for those. I have searched and all I can find are results to hide the entire task bar or instructions on how to add to the taskbar but not a word on how to remove those unwanted items.
I would also like to know how I can un-pin one specific drive which is encrypted so it is not available on taskbar...it always wants me to format it! Better to hide from taskbar. Still needs to remain visible to encryption program of course.
I'm trying to work out how to get the below icons larger:
I'm sure when I upgraded, they were twice the size ... but for now they seem to have got a lot smaller. I've had a look around, and can't seem to find a way to make them larger (I have 20/20 vision, but even I'm having trouble seeing which icons are which )
I know this has to do with virtual desktops... but it's super obnoxious. Is there a way to get rid of it? I don't really need or want multiple desktops anyway, and it's irritating that it shows a little green bar under every program even when I only have one desktop...
View 1 RepliesI'm currently testing Windows 10 (in virtualbox), I use Classic Shell to change the taskbar opacity. a way to do this manually?
View 2 RepliesThe apps that are pinned on the taskbar those ones. Any way to do that?
View 2 RepliesThere appears to be no way of configuring a taskbar clock on my Windows 10 desktop - I have tried every visible menu option.. The taskbar properties menu provides no option for a clock although I have seen Windows 10 displays that show a clock (and calendar).
Note: My original Windows 7 system, before the upgrade, had the taskbar clock disabled as I already had a clock gadget on display - could this be the reason?
Looking for steps or procedures required to place a Google icon on Windows 10 Taskbar?
View 3 RepliesI have a black taskbar with dark gray fonts....so basically can't see anything at all... not real familiar with changing settings, how do I change this?
View 2 RepliesNew windows 10 installation; background color of taskbar is ugly black, and can't figure out how to change it.
View 2 RepliesHow to change the taskbar icon size? Because Windows 10 Taskbar icons looks so small too me. Here is different from Windows 10 to Windows 7.
View 7 RepliesThe symbols that show the battery percentage, the calendar, and the sound.... they are in the lower right corner. I want to move them to the lower right corner of my second monitor, without making my second monitor the main monitor. Is there anyway to do that? Or at least duplicate the icons so they show on the second monitor?
View 1 RepliesSo I just tried out ClassicShell on Win10 and although I didn't like it, it has a nice option which allowed you the control the level of opaque/transparency on the taskbar.
However ClassicShell changes a ton of things that I do not want so I was wondering if it was possible to manually change the opaque level without installing ClassicShell.
Also, is it possible to modify the transparency level of the title bar as well? Glass8 does a nice job of adding TitleBar transparency but it's not transparent enough IMO.
