My Windows sign in setting is "never" yet when my computer is in sleep mode and I come back to use it has a sign in. I sign in and open settings and view the sign in setting and it is still "never". How can the system directly go against a system setting? Is there a correction for a situation where the setting is correct but the behavior of the system is wrong?
View 1 RepliesWhen I try and access sign-in options in the settings account screen, I get the dreaded dots that shoot across the screen but the sign-in options don't open.
Also i cannot access my microsoft account, when I try I just get the circle of dots.
But how does one get rid of the picture of the ugly guy in the midde?
View 4 RepliesI was curious if there happened to be a location where the image that shows up on the screen where you enter your password is. Not talking about the lock screen. In Windows 7 it's located under "C:WindowsSystem32oobe", but that's not the case in Windows 10. Is there a place where this image exists? If not, it might be in one of the various MUI files...
View 5 RepliesUntil yesterday everything was working fine. This night I shutdown my computer and this morning, when I started it up, I noticed the icons of my dekstop in the default location and with the default dimensions.
I repositioned them , I changed icon dimensions again but if I sign out/sign in , restart , shutdown/startup the computer , all my desktop icons go back to default position and default dimension.
I have fingerprint scanner.. I works in when I was in windows 8.. tried the same driver in windows 10 but "windows hello" is not appearing in my sign-in option... Why? My laptop is hp elitebook 8440p and I'm trying to use its built in scanner....
View 2 RepliesHP upgraded from Win7 and Toshiba upgraded from Win8.3 6-10 months ago to Win10.
I've tried to change from Fast Start which fixed only the failure on Toshiba to restart on command which was a good thing. Did nothing for HP.
I've changed the keyboard registry in both computers to the #2 which did nothing. (The HP was already set to 2)
I've gotten the latest patches and upgrades for Win10 on both laptops. Did nothing.
The numlock light comes on and stays on. The on screen icons show either locked or unlocked properly. Only the directional controls continue to work in either locked or unlocked mode.
I've found nothing anywhere that addresses this. Has to be a software issue as computers are different manufacturers and one is 3 years old and other is less than one year old.
It baffles me that it works on startup to put in my PIN and only fails when logged on to Windows 10.
After logging on I get a popup message saying, "Failed to connect to a windows service. Windows couldn't connect to the Group Policy Client service. This problem prevents standard users from signing in"... How do I rectify this problem.
View 2 RepliesI am having some problems when trying to install Windows live ID sign in assistant. When I download the Games for windows live it says that the sign in assistant gets downloaded and installed but when I open Games for windows it gives me an error and says that I have to install the sign in assistant.
I then downloaded it from the Microsoft site but the installer starts and then just quits as soon as it opens.
I love the dynamic sign-in backgrounds, and i would love for Windows to change my desktop background to the same images.

View 3 RepliesI've got a dual monitor PC running the now released windows 10. Everything about it went very smoothly, right up until I tried to change the background. At first both screens had the same image (that cool windows 10 logo with light beams picture). But of course that wasn't sufficient, so I changed it. I liked that windows 7 would rotate my wallpapers with pictures in my photo library. So I dug in and made the necessary changes, and.... then I hit an odd snag.
The two screens were showing different background pictures. At first it was cool! I was blown away. I never even thought about changing the wallpapers separately! But, I'm a creature of habit. And having that second monitor with a different wallpaper was getting on my nerves. Now, I know I can change both wallpapers to be the same picture. BUT, I'm greedy and want it all! I want it to also show the slideshow of all the photos.... one at a time, on both screens, at once.
On a side note, whenever I right click the desktop and ask windows to skip ahead to the next desktop background, it does one screen only. I have to do it again and then the other screen will change. If they HAVE to be separate, I'd at least like some control over them.
When scrolling using the lower arrow in a maximized browser window, occasionally I hit the clock causing the massive pop-up. I can change the clock to the Win32 one and I can find much on disabling the Windows 8 Charms, but nothing on disabling the 'click-to-show' clock pop-up.
I'm happy to retain right/click 'Adjust time/date' function for when I purposely click it.
I suppose I could resize the scrollbar properties to have a bigger button but I think this would throw a lot of websites out of whack and I'm not quite ready to accept it's time for the geriatrics home just yet - I believe my fine motor skills are still just that. Maybe it's lazy pointer control, but the amount of times I hit it is getting frustrating.

View 3 RepliesIn Windows 10, in Personalization > Background, I have red text that says, Some settings are managed by your organization, and all desktop background features are greyed out and inaccessible. What does this mean and how do I get the desktop background function back?
Please note: All other Personalization options are accessible, including: Colors, Lock screen, Themes (although they do not work once I go into them), and Start.
All I have for a desktop background, is the last wallpaper I used, which is now permanently locked as my desktop background.
I would like to select which pictures from a theme I would like to use for my background. To be more specific, I want to disable a few pictures. This used to be possible in Win 7/Win 8.1 by going to the Theme settings (in win 10: Personalize/Themes/Theme Settings), and clicking an icon called Desktop Background on the bottom of the page.
View 3 RepliesAfter installing Windows 10 in my Dell Laptop, all kind of settings like Control Panel, Volume setting, Bluetooth Settings are disabled to view.
When I click on Setting, my screen blink once and nothing happened after that, no settings got open.
Navigating to Settings > Personalization > Themes > Theme Settings, we get to the Personalization window for Themes same as on Win 7. In the window it states "Click a theme to change the desktop background, color, and sounds all at once."
However, the icons normally at the bottom of the window to change those settings are missing. All I can do is save the theme (right click).

I tried to change the windows update settings and I can't! I get a message saying that some settings are managed by my system administrator! I am the only user in this laptop with administrator privileges.
How comes that I can't change the settings?
I recently upgraded to Windows 10 and now i want to downgrade, because the OS gets more and more limiting with every Insider Build and Update (How do you expect locking the Taskbar texture to not be changed to the Taskbar my Classic,XP Luna,and Aero have?) and for gaming reasons (Minecraft keeps on crashing,due to 10s automatic driver updates). Unfortunatly, with the way MicroLocker provided,since my laptop came with 8.1, Settings only let's me downgrade to 8.1, which is the OS i hated more than 10 (Even though it's limitful, 10 is better than 8). So how can i do that?
View 9 RepliesI upgraded to Windows 10 earlier this week and I've had nothing but problems with it, namely that all of the new apps (Mail, Calendar, Microsoft Edge, etc) and a few of my 3rd party programs (namely iTunes) won't open. When I click on them from the taskbar, the Start menu, or Cortana, either nothing at all happens or I get a box that says "Explorer.exe: Element not found" or "RuntimeBroker.exe: Element not found."
After a long time on the phone with Microsoft support, we realized that my computer (Lenovo Ideapad Y580) wasn't yet compatible with Windows 10 because Lenovo hadn't developed the drivers for it yet. They said I should revert to Windows 7 until they create them. Here's the problem though: One of the apps that won't open for me is Settings, which means I can't get to the Recovery page to downgrade back to Windows 7.
Is there some way to downgrade without using Settings?
How do I get Windows Explorer to remember my settings when I exit? For instance, if I'm in a folder and click "Size all columns to fit", then I exit Explorer and come back to that folder again, it doesn't remember that I clicked "size all columns to fit" and I have to do it again.
