View 1 RepliesFor some unknown reason I cannot any more navigate to Update panel from "Einstellungen" - it is blocked.
I have to cancel the "Einstellungen" window by the task manager !
So in this moment I cant go forward nor backward any more: cant activate Win 10 neither start the restore of my old
Win 7 system - unbelievable !!!!!!
Question: is there a professional command that I can enter in the command line to start/complete the restore of Win 7 ?
I am frustrated by this dilemma of Win 10 Update. The update od the Defender library also doesnt work and stops after several minutes complaining about the network. Browsing works of course. Windows Firewall is deactivated. No Antimalware program installed.
In Windows 10 is new app for photos and albums as default picture viewer.
In Windows 8.1 I used JPEGView, and sometimes Windows Photo Viewer.
Now I'm customizing Windows and I know how to start Photo Viewer from cmd and created context menu item.
I want to associate pictures again to JPEGView and have context menu item for Windows 10 Photos, so, how to run Photos from command line?
I use Adobe After Effects, which I often need to run multiple copies of using the -m switch. Windows 7 let me modify the shortcut in the start menu so it'd start with this switch, which if AE is already running means it'll launch a new instance of it, rather than switching to the instance I've already got open. However, in Win10 I can't find any way to do this - it has the same behaviour that launching AE from the task bar in Win7 did, ie it just switches to the already open instance. Is there a way to add the switch I need?
Just dragged it onto the desktop as a shortcut, and interestingly there's no option to add the switch there either (in Properties)..
EDIT: I can create a shortcut with the switch in Program Files (or presumably elsewhere on the C drive), but right-clicking and choosing "Pin to Start" seems to remove that switch. It opens a second copy when I launch the shortcut from Program Files, but not from Start.
Lowering and raising the levels bar on this^ with a keyboard key or combination of keys.
I've been using Line In to listen to my game console audio but sometimes I need to adjust the volume, and I'd rather have a key to do it.
I changed Command Prompt on my Taskbar so when I click on it, it opens as Administrator. That sets the default directory as C:WINDOWSsystem32 which I don't like, since any files I create that do not have a path specified will be created there.
I want it to open in my user directory.
When I look at the properties I see Start in: %homedrive%%homepath% which converts to C:Usersmyaccountname yet when I launch the Command Prompt it still goes to C:WINDOWSsystem32.
Using the Dism command in Windows ADK for Windows 10 v1511, it is possible to change the name and description of a volume image saved to a wim file?
If not, you can tell me the method more proper to do this avoiding the use of the old imageX command?
I have an issue with my sfc and dism, as stated above. The issue started when i went to add windows features i get nothing but a blank box. Thinking there was some kind of corrupted file I ran a sfc scan only to get this, Beginning system scan. This process will take some time.
View 1 RepliesI have a very old laptop, but despite the age it has worked relatively fine for my needs with just an HDD change. I bought this at the very end of Vista lifespan with an almost immediate Win7 upgrade offered. I then skipped Win 8 totally, but rolled a Win 10 when it came, and it has been working well. But you get the picture. This machine is old.
Onto the point: I'm getting an occasional fan rev up, with the CPU at 100%. The process is Service Host: Local System (Network Restricted). Recently, I also lost all sound on the computer, which chkdsk /f /r was able to salvage. I have a feeling these might relate to a same problem.
I researched, and found out that sfc /scannow will work. OK. It starts the verification process, but fails at 18% saying corrupt files exist. When I export the sfcdetails.txt from the log, it does not really report which files are corrupt so as to replace them. 00000e22 [SR] Beginning Verify and Repair transaction and then the logfile ends.
Because I cannot complete SFC, I'm told to run DISM, and that is how I ended up here. When I run Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
Image version 10.0.10240.16384
At 20% an error 1726 with remote procedure call failed.
So I go to dowload the ISO and mount it. It will then give me the .esd
So I'm having my fingers crossed while running Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth /Source:esd:F:SourcesInstall.esd:1 /limitaccess
So I know pressing window+p brings up a menu that allows you to switch display but I want something like a bat command that when run, would switch the display to "Pc screen Only". How would I do this?
View 4 RepliesThis happened after the fall update. It's not a big deal as I can still read it, but it's annoying.
View 4 RepliesWindows Vista and XP used to have a built-in utility to remove unused seldom used icons from the desktop. Did they remove it for WIN 10 ? I can not seem to find it on here.
View 10 RepliesI recently upgraded to Windows 10. Since then searches in the Registry Editor do not work any more (the app consumes 20% CPU, but the search never finishes. Canceling the search crashes the registry editor.
View 9 RepliesAfter I installed Windows 10, I created a Microsoft online account to see what it was like. During the process, it changed the name on my local Windows 10 user account. I used Control Panel to go to Users, but there seemed to be no way to change the name back to the original. It's the only account on the computer. Surely changing the name is possible, but how? Will I have to create a new administrator account and delete the old one?
View 4 RepliesI am the only user of my pc, and I am the administrator etc but the user name shown in the C drive is John and I want to change that to Pete.
I have drives C and F
In C the user is called John
In F user called Pete

Possibly in Windows XP when it was installed, in order to have several desktops, dealing with various subjects, I simply created a whole bunch of User Accounts. So, I changed user accounts to get to the desktop I wanted.
Now that I have Windows10, is there an advantage to using the New Desktop feature? I'd just have one user account then.
I'm using Fences to sort my desktops.
Also, my data, which shows up in my desktops is stored on a separate partition from C drive.
I am the sole user of my pc.
Under Settings/Accounts
my name is:-
John Smith
my email address
Administrator
Q1 How do I change this to just:-
Pete
Administator?
Under This PC
I have drives C, F and G
In C the user is called John
In F user called Pete
In G user called Pete
Q2 How do I rename user John to Pete?
How does the administrator change passwords for users?

View 2 Repliesmy issue is that I set up my Microsoft account on my Win10 laptop back when Win10 first released. At the time it was associated with an older email account that I have since changed to a new gmail account. I was able to go into my Microsoft account settings online and set the new email as an alias, as well as the primary for the account. My desktop (the system I am typing this on) is on this account with the new gmail address attached to the user account (as a Microsoft account).
My laptop, however, still shows my old email as the account name. I contacted Microsoft directly and they connected to my laptop through a remote connection to try and fix it, but they were unable to figure out how to change the account name.
I have since performed an in-place upgrade to refresh the Win10 install, which prompted for my Microsoft account credentials. I was able to connect successfully, but the account name is still stuck on my old email address. Under User settings in the control panel, there is no option to simply change account name like the local accounts do, and the OS is the home edition, so I have no access to the group policy editor settings. I have seen a few references to registry edits, but I'd rather avoid messing with that because I realize changing the account name might mess up directory addresses (since the 'user' directory is linked to account name).
Since the latest major Windows 10 update (fall 2015), Internet Explorer has been refusing to log me into SSL-protected (https:) websites without me having to alter the recorded user name.
Windows changes my user name to MicrosoftAccountmy.email@address.com, even though the original user name was a short plaintext one. Windows does remember the correct password, so all I have to do is change the user name back to the correct one.I log into the site, however, the user name is back to the MicrosoftAccount one.
(The number of primitive bugs in version 1511 is just imagination-defying.)
Open Control Panel. Open User Accounts applet. On the left there's a link that says Change my environment variables.
Clicking on that link... does nothing (!!!). The link is simply dead.
What on Earth is going on??? How are we supposed to change environment variables in non-Administrator accounts now? This Change my environment variables link in User Accounts was provided specifically for that purpose. There's no other natural way to do it.
I know that there are workarounds for this (all ugly), but... WTH? Did they do even basic testing on this 1511 release???
P.S. Just confirmed that pre-1511 Windows 10 works normally in that regard. This damage was done specifically by 1511 update.
How to change the color of the user login screen. Mine is the ugliest color. None of the information I found on Windows 8 will work on Windows 10. I am unable to open its answer for some reason. Says I don't have permission.
View 9 RepliesI am using a ThermalTake eSports Challenger Ultimate Gaming keyboard. Everything worked fine for the first few months, until for some reason the right arrow key was not working. I reinstalled drivers. I unplugged and plugged keyboard back in, used a USB keyboard. Then I found out that it would work on the login screen, and on other users. I found out that it wasn't working on my user for some reason. I even used KEYBOARD tester, on MY user, and it showed the key being pressed, but no SOUND as a response. I went to another user, the key was pressed, it was shown, and it did the tick sound meaning it worked. I don't know what to do, and it annoys me. My main account was made a "child account" or child protected account, but then I set it to ADMIN. Typing from the ALT account right now. Some games that use the right arrow key are unplayable, like UNDERTALE. I even plugged a PS4 controller and it wasn't moving right either.
