Received HP notebook for Christmas. Model 15-F211WM. Having problems with (1) making Mozilla Firefox the default web browser instead of Microsoft Edge; and (2) viewing DVDs (I insert DVD, drive whirs, lights flash, nothing plays, get no messages). How do you access the DVD drive anyway?

It says that there is no app or protocol installed for it, yet I do have the Calendar app installed.
When I try to look online at the Windows Store for it, it gives me this message:

I'm trying to update my desktop to Windows 10. I got the update, and downloaded it, but when I try to update via "Windows Update", it comes up with "Windows 10 couldn't be installed.""You can't install Windows on a USB flash drive using Set-Up".I don't understand, the only USB ports being used are for mouse, keyboard and PS4 controller for some games, I'm certainly not trying to install windows on a USB.
View 1 RepliesI am having a problem whereby my default browser keeps changing from IE11 back to either Edge or blank. Why this might be happening or what program is causing it to change? I thought it maybe the Windows Auto Update that keep changing but am now not so sure of that since the last recorded update is back on 14th January and my default Browser got changed again last evening.
The only other programs that run regularly are Norton Internet Security and Norton Utilities. However, I have been through the settings of both of those programs and cannot detect anything that would indicate that they change the default Browser.
Also, in IE11 under the advanced tab I have ticked the option the "Tell me if Internet Explorer is not the default web browser" and yet (a) I do not get a notification and (b) the default browser keeps getting changed.
Can't make Chrome default browser, only msEdge .
When in Chrome and I click make chrome default , nothing happens . And Edge won't let go .
Is there a way to automate changing the default browser from Edge to IE. We are still dependent on IE and can not deploy W10 with Edge as the default.
View 3 RepliesI'm having a persistent problem with Google Chrome. Although Windows 10 says Chrome is the default browser, Google Chrome itself does not "believe" it, and I keep getting the "Google Chrome is not your default browser" notification when I bring up the browser.
In settings it says that Google Chrome is NOT the default browser and no matter how many times I click on the button to tell Google Chrome to make it the default browser, it just pops up the Windows 10 window that shows me that according to Windows 10, it IS the default browser. I have run a Repair Install Windows 10 With an In-place Upgrade hoping it would solve the problem, but it did not...
Basically, I plan to disconnect every other Drive from my computer (my 2nd SSD and the HDD I use for data storage). From there, I'd do a clean install of Windows 10 onto my SSD.
Will that SSD become my C Drive by default (I want it to)? Will is stay that way when I reconnect my other drives provided I continue to boot from my SSD?
As I had a spare copy of Win 7 (upgrade version)
I decided to configure a new Hard Drive (Which I have on swappable pull out trays)
So to make sure there were no bugs or glitches, this is what I did.
(1) Formatted the Drive
(2) Clean Install of Win XP
(3) Clean Install of Win 7 (To Upgrade XP to Win 7)
(4) Using an Iso Disk I burned I then installed a free upgrade to Win 10 (which was accepted and registered by MS)
Everything was fine except for one thing.
When I try and use MS Edge, I get a banner on the Screen which says 'This App can't open, your trial period for this App has now expired.
Visit the Windows Store to purchase the Full App
Then there is a Link to go to the Store but there is no sign of an App for MS Edge!
I've still got Edge on this Hard Drive but not on this other New Drive.
my default browser doesn't want to change.
When i click it nothing happens.
i was playing about with the new search bar located on task bar for windows 10 and i cam across something odd i search for something on the bar and then a menu popped up asking me what i wanted to search through (firefox, google chrome, edge). when it popped up i didnt think much about so i closed but now i want to change something on it and i dont have a clue how to trigger it again. i want to make it so that when i search it goes through google chrome.
View 7 RepliesI seem to have a problem trying to save file to my default Docs, vid and Pics folder on my C drive. I have attached a pic of what it says.I have changed the permissions to let me do this or am I looking in the wrong place? If I save the files to the desktop however and then move to the relevant folder it works fine.
View 5 RepliesAfter upgrading to Windows 10, Outlook 2010 keeps asking how to open web links when I clicked. I keep telling him to use IE11. The registry update Looks like Microsoft removed if IE11. For if I click Edge or chrome then he start each link in Edge or chrome.
I do not want to used Edge for now until it not possible creates a simple link using drag / drop. And especially until it do not sync favorites with other machines in my park (windows 7 et windows 8.1).
This is a bug or it is by Microsoft? If this is the case, I immediately make a retro pedal to windows 7.
I can't use EDGE as my default browser as I have a few media servers and as has been pointed out that as EDGE is a universal app addresses like 127.0.0.1:8000 (i.e localhost type stuff) are no longer addressable. I need these types of addresses to use the web interface control settings on various of my media servers so I want to reset IE as the default app.

The only problem I am having is that Outlook won't open the default browser (IE11) when a link is clicked. Instead, it pops up a box that asks me what I want to use to open and , even if I select IE as the app and check the box that says always use this app, it doesn't "remember". I've set IE as the default browser, both in Outlook and as the default browser in Control Panel. Anything else I can do to make it open link with IE instead of Edge?

View 1 RepliesExcuse me if this has been asked before, I have a weird issue in This Computer. When I double-click a hard drive or other device, it tries to launch some unknown deleted application and fails with an error message (see below). If I right-click on the drive, I see that "cmd" is default instead of Open and I can proceed if I select Open. This issue occurs only in This Computer. Clicking any other folder on the desktop or elsewhere opens as expected. Could it be a malware? I'm now scanning with Malwarebytes Antimalware just in case.

Using Mail for Win 10 for first time, as that is what appeared for my Outlook email account. I found today that when using either CC or BCC a 'Return' occurs immediately after entering an email address, thereby moving the cursor to the line below, requiring moving the cursor back to that original line so that another email address can be entered, and again and again.. Never saw this before so probably/hopefully a fix is coming.
While typing an email I touched the Caps Lock key mid-sentence and typed one capital letter in error. I touched that key turning off the caps lock function and the light went off. But from that point on I could only type in CAPS regardless of what I did. I had to close email and restart it to have it return to normal.
Edge resets to default setting after every W10 update.
Can MS stop this?
Favourites are gone, I have to run xcopy to add back. Google search is no longer the default search provider. It also offers to remember password which I disabled.
Windows 10 installed painlessly over my old Windows 7. In starting web browser, it always asks if I want to make it my default. I click "yes" and it then opens a window to assign a calendar and email address to the browser. I do not want a calendar or email address assigned to this user ID, but it will not accept a default browser without email address and calendar. How do I get past this? Everytime I open the browser it asks the default question, but will not accept as default without email and calendar assigned. I'm ready to go back to Windows 7.
