View 1 RepliesI accidentally happened to make all my .bin files open with notepad. Ive tried to restore the default association of the .bin files through the default choice in control panel and also through regedit but without any success. how to restore the default state for .bin files.
View 1 RepliesI have the option "Show recently opened items in Jump Lists on Start or the taskbar" off.
However since the last update whenever I either copy or move a file into any folder windows puts that folder under the Recent group in the taskbar.
I'm currently running a MSI Leopard, laptop.
I have this one issue. I set up Chrome as my default browser for example, or VLC as my default player for .avi, .mp4, .mkv or else.
But as soon as I will have rebooted the laptop, these settings are reset. Edge for web pages, Windows Media Player for videos etc ...
After upgrading to Windows 10, Outlook 2010 keeps asking how to open web links when I clicked. I keep telling him to use IE11. The registry update Looks like Microsoft removed if IE11. For if I click Edge or chrome then he start each link in Edge or chrome.
I do not want to used Edge for now until it not possible creates a simple link using drag / drop. And especially until it do not sync favorites with other machines in my park (windows 7 et windows 8.1).
This is a bug or it is by Microsoft? If this is the case, I immediately make a retro pedal to windows 7.
I'm trying to add my own program (AkelPad) to the list of Default programs.I created and applied the reg-file, but the program still is not in the list.
Code:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREAkelPadCapabilities]"ApplicationDescription"="AkelPad - Text Editor"
"ApplicationIcon"="C:Program FilesAkelPadAkelPad.exe,0""ApplicationName"="AkelPad"
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREAkelPadCapabilitiesFileAssociations]".txt"="AkelPadText.txt"".ini"
[code]...
How to add my own program that doesn't appear in Default programs list?
I have Windows 10 64-bit, I did a clean install on a new build (SSD). I would use the Windows "move" application feature and the default download location option but Microsoft greyed out the option on the final release of Windows and nobody knows when the feature will be back.
So should I change this stuff in regedit, using this method* or what should I do?

Whenever I plug a photo card in to my PC, the new Photo Viewer program is launched (which doesn't find the card but that doesn't matter as I don't want to use that program anyway). How can I change the default import program to one of my choice (Lightroom).
I can of course shut it down, load Lightroom and then select the card but I always have to go through the process of first shutting down the program that loads automatically. If anything is going to load automatically I would rather pick my own!
I'm using a Sony a3000 camera, although I don't think that's the problem. When I download photos on my old computer, which is still running Windows7, my photos go straight to my default program, PaintshopPro. On my laptop, which has Windows 10, I have set PaintshopPro as the default, but when I connect the camera, I get a pop up to choose the device, either F:/ or PMHOME.
When I choose F:/, I get a pop-up to start importing and it gives me the option where I want to import, but the photos end up in the Photos App in the Collections folder. I don't want to use the Photos app. I want them to go straight into PSP. How do I do that?
when I set a default program in the Settings app and then open a file, Windows still asks which program I want to use. Admittedly, it does this only once per file type, but this is extremely annoying in a work environment where there are numerous computers.
For example, I went into the Settings app and set the .AU3 file extension to be opened in a specific program. Then, I double-clicked an .AU3 file, and I got this window:
It has the correct default in the above image, but it asks if I want to "keep using this app." Why? Can I make this stop?
is there a way to recover all my default program settings? I have made some mistakes and some settings arent working any moren

Unable to resize a batch of photos using the built-in Windows 10 resize feature with the Send To option:
1. Open a folder containing photos.
2. Select some photos.
3. Right-click selected photos and choose "Send to."
4. Click on "Mail Recipient" in the listed options in the pop-out menu.
5. Notice that the "Attach Files" dialogue box displays.
6. From the drop-down menu, I selected "Smaller: 640 x 480"
7. An estimate of the new total file size is given... press the Attach button.
8. Notice that the progress of the file re-size operation displays, "Preparing to send."
Receive error message, "There is no email program associated to perform the requested action..."
Not true, I went into the Control Panel and associated the Windows 10 Mail program as the default email program. Please see attached screen shots as verification/clarification. Is there something I am missing? I am using Windows 10 Pro.

View 1 RepliesWindows 10 . How to change Program Files Location. i know in windows 7 and windows 8 all i had to do is go to ''HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersion'' and change ProgramFilesDir to the hard driver letter to the on that i prefer. same goes to the ProgramFilesDir (x86)
Now here is my real question... on windows 10 we still can do same as i mention above for both x86 and x64. but the problem is if i change the ProgramFilesDir (x86) on windows 10 most of the things on windows 10 stop working. if i change my ProgramFilesDir (x86) :C >>ProgramFilesDir (x86) : D i can't even open the run. and most of the other stuff doesn't response correctly either
I've (install windows 10/clean install ) multiple times. after installing is done, every time i go change the ProgramFilesDir (x86). PC stops responding correctly.
Is there a program that will backup windows 10 files and settings like windows easy transfer that was in windows 7.
View 4 RepliesI have used an old Brodabund family Tree Maker programme in many Windows versions as they have evolved. I successefully started it running in Win 10 but now I cannot open it. I get a message that tells me that variouse .dll files are missing.
View 1 RepliesWindows 10 did an update on my wife's desktop that was incompatible with the Nvidia graphic drivers on it. As a result, the dual monitors no longer display. We took the computer to the local Microsoft store and they were fully aware of the problem and are working on it. But, after two weeks, the problem has not been solved. Meanwhile we bought a new desktop and had Microsoft empty the entire contents of the C: drive onto an external hard drive. They did and showed me that the external drive contained the root directory and program data that contains years of work using Lightroom.
I brought the external hard drive home and connected it. Luckily I can see the User Libraries but not the Program Data. Is there some way that I can make everything visible in the external hard drive so that I can copy the contents to the new desktop?
Program files (.exe) which are not installed (and so don't have a shortcut) are not being found by Windows search. Shortcuts, folders etc with the same name all show up.
Indexing is complete and .exe is defined (as default) in indexing options to Index Properties Only using the File Properties Filter. If I open up the old Windows 8 fly-out style search then .exe are found so they must be in the index.
I found this thread which is the same [URL] .... but the HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionExplorerFolderTypes registry key doesn't exist in 10.
How to make this work in the normal Windows search? (I'm not interested in any third party search tool).
My wife is getting a new computer with windows 10. Her old computer had windows xp with outlook express. How can we export the old outlook express files such as folders, email contacts etc. into the new windows 10 mail program.
View 4 RepliesWhenever I try to do anything, like install a program, open some files, I get an UAC warning saying: :"To continue, type an administrator password", but there's no textbox where I can type the password and Yes button is disabled. I found a solution on the forum [URL]..., but I can't enter Safe mode whatever I try, I never get an option to enter safe mode and I can't use msconfig cause UAC blocked it. What can I do?
View 1 RepliesI noticed my menu bar icons started showing a different icon (the default windows program icon) for some reason and Internet sites html started messing up too, so i decided to reboot my computer. Now my background is gone, it's just black. And all my folders and programs are gone. There's just one folder left on my desktop and all of them are empty. My downloads folder is also empty, there's just one folder left and its empty.
View 9 RepliesWhen I create a shortcut to file in Program Files, the target path for that shortcut will be to Program Files (x86), even though the start in path will be correct. Furthermore, even though the target path is incorrect and no icon is displayed for the shortcut, the shortcut still works.Shortcuts to items placed in the Program Files folder by an installer do not have this problem. It is only for files that are manually placed in the Programs Files folder by me the user, i.e. copy and pasted there.
