View 1 RepliesI'm having a problem with windows 10, it keeps resetting my default apps for watching videos and listening to music.
I want Windows Media PLayer to be my default app for all of these multimedia files but at least once a day a pop up informs me that there was a problem with one of my default apps and that it has been reset to default.
Is there anyway to disable Windows from taking this action?
1)open cmd as admin
2)Go to C:Users<Insert Username>AppDataLocalPackages and search name of your broken app (I will search Photos app)
3)Look at folder's name (Microsoft.Windows.Photos)
4)Now you know your app's id. Let's go back to cmd
5)Use this code
PowerShell -ExecutionPolicy Unrestricted -Command "& {$manifest = (Get-AppxPackage Microsoft.WRITE APP'S ID HERE).InstallLocation + 'AppxManifest.xml' ; Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register $manifest}"
It will be like this
PowerShell -ExecutionPolicy Unrestricted -Command "& {$manifest = (Get-AppxPackage Microsoft.Windows.Photos).InstallLocation + 'AppxManifest.xml' ; Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register $manifest}"
6)Press Enter and wait till the command finishes its work.
7)You don't have to reboot. Open your broken app and it will work now
I was trying to install WMP on my PC; I disovered that it was already installed, even though there was no icon on the desktop, start menu or application bar.
Anyway, I'm now trying to set it as the default application for opening music CDs. The problem is that it is not listed in the default programs, and I cannot seem to get it included on the list. I know how to associate programs with different file types, but that's not really what I want; I'd like WMP to launch automatically when I insert a CD.
I'm using a Sony a3000 camera, although I don't think that's the problem. When I download photos on my old computer, which is still running Windows7, my photos go straight to my default program, PaintshopPro. On my laptop, which has Windows 10, I have set PaintshopPro as the default, but when I connect the camera, I get a pop up to choose the device, either F:/ or PMHOME.
When I choose F:/, I get a pop-up to start importing and it gives me the option where I want to import, but the photos end up in the Photos App in the Collections folder. I don't want to use the Photos app. I want them to go straight into PSP. How do I do that?
Is there anyway to fix the photos app for a specific user account? On my main admin account it works ok. But there was a series of updates to some of the native apps a few days ago, one of those was the photos app. Since then the photos app will not work on my wife and son's user accounts (both standard accounts). Clicking on it brings up nothing. When I went into the store for their own accounts and searched for photos it actually gave an option to install it. I tried that and it went through the motions downloading/acquiring license but it made no difference. Still doesn't launch the app for them.
I don't particulary want to have to go through the process of deleting their accounts and setting them back up (which is time consuming). Creating a new user account does get the user a working photos app (as I did a test). Is there a simple way to do it without potentially breaking the photos app on other accounts (where it is currently working)?
I am aware of powershell fixes but I have read some horrible stories where the code just makes things worse and breaks a lot more especially in the current build of 10586. I'd want any attempted fix to be purely isolated to the affected user's account.
It does seem that the native apps have some pretty bad problems with updating and breaking down. Sometimes I go into the store and look at the check for updates section and see them seemingly stuck in the update process. Sometimes they need a bump to get them going. There seems to be a riskiness to when they are auto updating on my own user account and how it can translate to the other user accounts. In this latest scenario the photos app has been rendered useless for half the users of my computer. Why MS cannot make their own apps easy to uninstall and re-install is beyond me. All other non MS apps are easy to work with and can be uninstalled and reinstalled with comfort. Plus unlike the MS native apps they seem to have no trouble updating themselves!
However, the same cable connected to my HDD was connected to my SSD. (I fried my HDD due to over voltage) now when I try to watch videos or when I try to listen to music it will all play, but will stop after about 12 seconds and freeze. I have tried restoring windows 10, I checked my Intel SSD with their toolbox software, and I have uninstalled and reinstalled my drivers for my Astro A40s and MIXAMP-TR along with the firmware.
I never experienced any of this before the frying of my HDD. So could it be the SSD? Because the HDD was used for only steam games and nothing else. My graphics card is the Gigabyte GeForce GTX 970. The SSD is Intel 730 Series 480GB. My HDD was the Seagate ST 1000DM003 1 TB. URL...In playback devices the green bars stay frozen and no audio can be heard. My Internet download speed has also decreased from 70 mbps over LAN to 10 mbps, and I know this is not my ISP because my other devices are still around 70 mbps.
Is it ok to delete Music, pictures, and videos folders from C:/Users/user? I recall this not working and having to hack the registry a bit to make it work in Windows 7. How can I do it in Windows 10? I really don't need these folders as I find they just clutter up my file explorer and anyway I choose to store my media elsewhere.
View 1 RepliesAfter the last update on windows 10, sound dont work on my computer... No sound in programs, videos, music or system. Sounds works just in Chrome.
View 6 RepliesIn Windows 10 is new app for photos and albums as default picture viewer.
In Windows 8.1 I used JPEGView, and sometimes Windows Photo Viewer.
Now I'm customizing Windows and I know how to start Photo Viewer from cmd and created context menu item.
I want to associate pictures again to JPEGView and have context menu item for Windows 10 Photos, so, how to run Photos from command line?
Can't manage photos and videos using windows 10.
View 1 RepliesI have 2 accounts on my machine. On my primary account, the Xbox app would not launch - no error given, just click and nothing happens. So I logged into Windows with my second account and the Xbox app launches with no problem. However, the Groove app won't launch under the second account, whereas it will under my primary account. I have tried the Powershell command to remove and reinstall the app and that has been 100% unsuccessful.
It appears to do nothing more than remove it from the start menu as it still says "installed" if I search for it in the Store. If I reboot, then the Store will allow me to reinstall. The same issue persists in not launching and providing no errors.
I am completely baffled as to why some apps work under one account and not the other - both accounts are admins. Is there something else I can do? I had originally upgraded from Windows 7, but after getting all kinds of BSOD errors, I did a complete wipe and fresh install. I've had these default app not launching errors - or lack of errors as none are shown - since then.
I have seen lots of people saying their Store won't launch or the Start menu doesn't work, but I have had no issues with that...
I am using Windows 10 for around 2 days now. But today my computer freezed while playing a game, so i restarted my computer and when i logged in, the start menu, notification menu and metro apps would not open anymore.
View 9 RepliesI swear I had a import photos and videos option for devices on Windows 10 but now it seems I don't. This is what I get for options.I don't even have the options in my autoplay settings and default settings.
View 9 RepliesI've got some new photos in my laptop recently and yesterday I was able to open any of them. I did it for the entire day. From this morning I suddenly can't open any photo. When I click on one of them it says ''the wait operation timed out'' after 10 seconds. I really need to open some photos. What can I do and why did this happen ? Also I can't open any music files as well.
View 1 RepliesIs it possible to have the start menu open with all apps as default?
View 5 RepliesAnyway to make start button list all my applications without having to to click all apps and remove the abc categories?
View 2 RepliesI can not figure out how to remove Photos as my default SD card reader. It is totally useless, does not read my SD card and I think it is what has locked me out of my Photos folder.
View 4 RepliesI have all my media, music and movies sitting on a ReadyNAS 516 and have the shares mapped to Win 10 just fine. I can access all my media from the OS and other applications just fine. The issue is when I add "where to look" from both Groove Music and Movies and TV app, they never pick up my media and add to the available media for playback.
View 9 RepliesOn my desktop, when I run a music app in Windows 10, say Plug radio or Tunein, it stops playing music after a second or two of being minimized. If I maximize, it starts playing again. If I change the volume with the keyboard, and the little pop up window with volume, artist, song info, etc. pops up, it starts playing again, but as soon as it fades away, it stops again.
I checked under Task Manager, and the .exe file for the app suspends when you minimize it, and starts running again when you maximize it.
I have a laptop that I also upgraded to Windows 10 from 8.1, and it doesn't do this. I can minimize the same apps and they continue to play. When the desktop was Windows 8.1, I didn't have this problem.
I'm not sure if it's just me or not, but in installed Pandora a couple of weeks ago.
Pandora will randomly start playing music. Doesn't matter if the laptop is idle or actively being used, it will start playing.
I've stopped the process multiple times and that hasn't stopped it, even after restarts too.
When watching a full-screen video, my screen saver slide show tries to start. It blacks out the screen and the pictures start showing after a few seconds. That didn't happen with my XP and Windows 7 installations.
View 4 RepliesBefore I do a clean install of Windows 10, I would like to know how to back up any music which isn't covered by my iTunes Match subscription. I know that I shall be able to bring in most of my music and I have backed up the ring tones which I have created to a thumb drive. I am really concerned about the CDs I have added to iTunes but have since given away.
View 4 RepliesGet started videos wont play also videos in new apps downloaded from the store wont play. videos play fine in browsers and downloaded content. I am connected to the internet, (don't post things like check your conection or other obvious replies) this is a conflict or update issue I think.
