Desktop Goes To Sleep After 10 Minutes With Blue Sign On Screen
Aug 2, 2015
I have updated my desk top with no problems and have set it to sleep after an hour, however it still goes to sleep after 10 minutes. It then sits with the blue sign on screen with no account pic or sign in box for ages before going to a blue screen which flickers for a few seconds before giving me the sign in options. I have tried adjusting all the power saver options to no avail!
Ok, I have read several people having problems with the sleep/power save modes.
I have a similar problem. I can't keep my screen from going blank. Now what I have done is I went into the power save and sleep modes and had everything set to "never" including "none" on screensaver. Well in 5 minutes the screen goes blank but the computer, drive and my previous items & webpages are right where I left them. I also tried setting the time the display goes to sleep for 30 minutes and it stills goes into blank mode in 5 minutes. My assumption is, no matter what I set the power/save and screensaver to it still goes into a 5 min no activity screen blank.
Computer is a HP ENVY dv7, AMD A10,Quad core with 16Gb mem; 650Gb drive. Previous OS Windows 8.1. All drivers were updated to latest before update to Windows 10.
I installed windows 10 from 8.1 on my Vision E2 Gateway. When I sign in, the desktop keeps flashing a black screen every second. It doesn't allow me to open anything, I can't click on any icons visible, and this has been happening ever since I first signed in with windows 10. Is it a virus or something? It can't be that my computer isn't compatible, because it TOLD me it WAS.
I have a new Toshiba C55-C5241 Laptop, which came pre-loaded with Windows 10. (See Specs)
I clean installed Windows 10 last weekend. All went very well. I just started loading programs this weekend.
I started noticing the blue screen stops yesterday. These happen coming out of Sleep. I probably never would have noticed these before because I was not leaving the machine alone long enough for it to go into Sleep. So unfortunately I do not know when the behavior started - from the beginning or after some software installation.
Here are my reports: SCULLY-Sun_08_30_2015__64736_97.zip
Blue screens are mostly "Kernal Data Inpage Error" and the more serious "Critical Process Died", both I understand to be processor related.
I did not have the presence of mind to test or check any of this early on. But I do have images of the original factory installation and of the fresh, clean install (before any customization or software installs). I do not believe that I ever tried Sleep Mode on the original factory installation.
The stops happen very consistently when on battery power, less so when plugged in. For a while I thought they did not occur when plugged in - this was not the case. They seem to be more consistent when manually going into sleep, not so much when it goes into sleep from Power Settings.
All of the drivers in the clean install were the same as the drivers in the factory installation (at the time I finished). I did not turn off automatic driver update for a few days. I will check the driver list for changes later.
Software installed (in order) : Avast!, Firefox, Office 2010 (H&S), Nitro Reader, VLC (64 bit), Handy Address Book (a prog I've been using for years), Malwarebytes, CCleaner (never run), and Winamp. I am thinking of restoring the clean install image today (start over). Just to see if the behavior started then.
Until yesterday everything was working fine. This night I shutdown my computer and this morning, when I started it up, I noticed the icons of my dekstop in the default location and with the default dimensions.
I repositioned them , I changed icon dimensions again but if I sign out/sign in , restart , shutdown/startup the computer , all my desktop icons go back to default position and default dimension.
My Lenovo desktop locked up and I rebooted. First it went in to an endless reboot and after several tries I got the Lenovo start screen and then a blank BLUE SCREEN. The mouse and keyboard work. I updated to 10/10.1 over the net, no disk.
1) When my screen goes to sleep, I can't wake it up by using the keyboard or mouse. I have to force a hard reboot by pressing and holding the power button.
2) I just had a crash in which my screen became white with grey vertical lines. I would've blamed my gpu but I can run benchmarks just fine..
This happening right after i instal 10 on my laptop. Its about 5-10 mins after my laptop sleep then its shut down automatically.. And i believe there is nothing problem with power & sleep settings.
When I walk away from my computer, I want it to go to sleep in 20 minutes. Sometimes I return after an hour, and the computer is still awake. There's obviously a rat in the woodpile here. Some software is changing my sleep setting from 20 minutes to "Never" without my permission. Sometimes it will sleep normally for a day or 2, then suddenly something resets my sleep time to "Never".
Is there a way I can block this activity, or re-set it to the proper 20 minute setting on each startup?BTW, I had the same problem in WIn7 and Win8. I was hoping it would be fixed in Win10. It has not.
I have been monitoring for several weeks to try and find a pattern. After startup (fresh) or from sleep by Pc works fine for a several minutes or hours then just freezes!! I thought it was the sleep issue but now i notice it does it from a fresh start.
I have also tried using different browsers no different. It can happen when dragging to another monitor but it also happens when doing nothing it just freezes the mouse. I cannot recover i cannot activate Task Manager. I have reboot via pc power button.
I have latest drivers i think also Event viewer report not shutting down properly not sure if that is the crash or what. I keep loosing lots of work I am on.
The title sums it up but here are the notes i already made and things i have tried so far:
Freezing issue :
I boot up ssd system drive with blank cd in drive. Log in windows shows but the sound chime is repeating rapidly constantly and the system has frozen.
Tried the same in safe mode and it doesn't do this!
I boot into Windows and after 2-5 minutes i can guarantee it freezes up completely including the mouse and keyboard. There is no log left behind because the system locks up and doesn't allow any information to be saved!
This also occurs in safe mode with networking enabled!
This also occurs when i boot windows with diagnostic mode chosen via msconfig
If i boot into Windows and try to burn a disc the hard drive has a lot of activity and the burning never actually commences. After a few minutes of waiting around the system freezes up!
In diagnostic mode chosen via msconfig, the burning app (basic windows "burn to disc" connect menu option) days checking disc when i insert black disc but then no hard drive activity occurs and nothing else happens in terms of the burning process actually taking place.
System mechanic told me the smbus driver needed updating. It seems i started getting the freezing issue after updating this driver but it may be coincidental and actually may be a Windows update that occurred at the same time (i think i recall things "getting configured" around the same time too).
When i look at the smbus driver (it is the amd smbus controller driver) it troopers that there isn't actually a driver installed at all!?
My desktop ignores the settings in Power Options and automatically goes to sleep. I have made sure that all of the advanced settings are set to Never. In the screen saver settings, it reverts back to 2 minutes after I apply the changes. Also, editing the value for ScreenSaveTimeOut found in location HKCUControl PanelDesktop from 120 to say, 3600, has no effect and reverts after refreshing. Deleting the key altogether also has no effect.
The computer works great but is acting slightly strange and I think it can be fixed but I am still new to windows 10.I cannot sign-in to the desktop using the keyboard now. I am forced to use the touchscreen. The computer barely wants give me the touchscreen number pad on top of that. Is there something I can do to correct this? I would much rather use the keyboard again for this.
Also I keep getting what appears to be a volume control on the desktop (see photo). It appears on the desktop then disappears only to appear and disappear again later.
win10 after showing logo black screen take 2 to 3 mintus to show welcome screen. amd radeon dual graphic card 7400+6310 driver amd site shows it a latest updated driver ...
When I start my computer it goes to a page that has date and time of day...I click and it goes to a sign in page for my microsoft account with password or pin...Can I start my computer and by pass this and go directly to my desktop page?
The first win 10 upgrade worked well on my Packard Bell Easynote TS11SB laptop, but the next upgrade REALLY SLOWED DOWN the startup process. Now 2 minutes. I've tried the highly unintuitive disable quick boot up trick to no avail.
I upgraded from Windows 8 to 10 without a hitch an hour ago and kept all of my personal files and apps. I set up my start menu and everything was working fine, but I wanted to change the image on the logon screen (or whatever you call the screen in between the lock screen and the screen where you enter your PIN/info). So I took a risk and downloaded the 3rd party app here:
[URL] and uploaded an image and hit apply. Of course right after doing that I went to lock my PC to see if it worked, and as you can tell... it didn't.
I've tried rebooting and it hasn't worked. It's just very rapidly flashing between a blue screen w/ a loading circle and my lock screen image.
On one of the Windows 10 systems here (upgrade followed by reset) all applications including the desktop become unresponsive for up to 20 minutes or so with the "spinning doughnut" mouse pointer displayed. During this entire period, something is hammering away on the hard drive. If I leave it long enough, the hard disk stops churning, and everything wakes up again.
Clearly some process has locked out all application screen updates (why?) while it does something to the hard drive. There are no entries in either the Application or System event logs that match up with the times that this has happened. The only common factor is that on several occasions I've had a VMware virtual machine running, but I don't think that it is every time.
Graphics card is an ATI FireGL V7600 sfc /scannnow thinks everything is OK.
I have freshly formatted my computer, installed all the updates and drivers, I have also RMA'd my video card (which i thoroughly tested and found it works fine on other computers.) but I cant figure out why my screen goes black but the computer keeps running. I can hear my music still playing and I run a dual monitor setup but when my screen goes black both monitors keep bouncing around the "Analog / Digital" box and thats all i can see, i have tested the monitors on other computers and they work fine as well.
I've had a problem where Windows was booting up fine sometimes, but other times it couldn't find the desktop settings, and I couldn't open any files (even though I could browse the hard drive) and there was no Start menu.
I've been trying various things to fix this, one of which was to set up a new user account. I followed instructions to open Powershell and I typed "net user TestUser password /add". It said it was successful.
Now I cannot even get into Windows. At the sign-in screen there are no users available at all (I just have the nice picture of blue window). I have tried shift-Restart to get to the troubleshooting options, but this doesn't work, it just restarts the PC and I get back to the same sign-in screen.
Since I installed Windows 10 on my HP Pavilion laptop it boots up OK and I can get as far as my desktop. The taskbar settles in nicely and all seems fine.
But if I open any application and work on it for a few minutes the taskbar and everything else suddenly disappears. I generally can't close whatever programme I'm in but if I do manage to then instead of a desktop I have a blank black screen. Moving the cursor around is possible but there is literally nothing to open.
My only option is to ctrl/alt/delete for Task Manager and then shut down or restart. On restart, the same thing happens. It starts, I get to the desktop, everything looks normal, I open something then black-screen-death.
With Windows 8,1 I was able to sign out of my account and then put the PC to sleep (or shutdown, restart or hibernate) by selecting the option in the sign-in screen. But there is no power icon or any power options on the Windows 10 sign-in screen. I can only put the PC into sleep mode while signed in.
