View 9 RepliesThis is probably the worst operating system Microsoft has ever developed, Even worse than the Millennium, which was pretty bad. Somehow windows 10 installed it's self and I decided to try it....Then before the 30 days were up I wanted to uninstall. Guess what you only have 28 days. So when I tried to uninstall it my fences and desktop icons disappeared as well as my office software and other things. What a mess. When I tried to use shadow to reinstall the deleted programs, icons etc. They would not reinstall due to windows 10 deleting part of the programs. There is also a pop up screed on the windows that keeps popping up and you can't get rid of it. Well you know I am MAD! Not only that the AMD driver is also not working and HP says that it has not a fix for this yet.

Then i see that all my files (on desktop and documents) are gone. My programms and other files are ok but the ones that i moved to desktop and documents were deleted. How can I restore them?
View 3 RepliesRunning Windows 10 on a Dell Venue 8 pro Tablet. Several months ago, and just yesterday I lost my desktop. Turned on the Tablet went to the desktop picture after signing in and ... nothing. No live panels, no desktop icons, the action center would not appear. Just the desktop picture. If I tapped on the picture, the icons would appear for a split second. Anything pinned to the bar along the bottom would work. I was able to get to system restore and restore to a couple of days ago. That worked. What happened. Don't really know how to fix other than system restore.
View 1 RepliesJust upgraded to windows 10 and on 7 I was using Ultramon, a super awesome multi-monitor program. Needless to say, ultramon doesn't work on 10 but 10 has some pretty great multi-monitor functionality already.
I've got two monitors and I have taskbar shown on both and buttons are set to show on taskbar where the window is open. What I'm trying to do is hide the Start Menu, Cortana search, and task view buttons on the non-primary monitor taskbar.
Also, I'm wondering if it's possible to change the Windows keyboard shortcuts? Trying to change the shortcut for switching between desktops to something other than Ctrl + Win + (Left/Right)
The computer works great but is acting slightly strange and I think it can be fixed but I am still new to windows 10.I cannot sign-in to the desktop using the keyboard now. I am forced to use the touchscreen. The computer barely wants give me the touchscreen number pad on top of that. Is there something I can do to correct this? I would much rather use the keyboard again for this.
Also I keep getting what appears to be a volume control on the desktop (see photo). It appears on the desktop then disappears only to appear and disappear again later.
I want to prepare my desktop before selling it and wipe all personal data. I am aware of tools like DBAN which would wipe out the entire disk including Win 10. I would prefer not to do that.
On a related note - my desktop is HP - came with Windows 7 - has the disk partitioned to C: and Recovery Image D:. If I do wipe out the entire C: drive, how exactly will I be able to recover Win 7 from D: ? It won't boot, right?
So i have 2 hard drives. one is an old one with windows 7 still on it, and the other was new with nothing on it. I took out the old one with windows 7 on it but didn't wipe it, and put in the new one. I installed windows 10 on the new one via bootable usb. Now windows says it can't activate. I've already downloaded 100gb of games and i REALLY don't want to do that again.
How can i get the new hdd to activate windows without wiping it? will the product key be the same for both versions? Can I update the old drive then swap it out with the new one and it be activated?
OK, so, I finally got the install for Windows 10, and boom, it restarts into it's happy special circle with a percentage, explaining that it's this many percent done, I step away, and when I come back a couple minutes later..
View 1 RepliesAt the first after I upgraded my notebook from windows 8 to windows 10, I just realize that 1 of my 3 user account is not exist anymore (the Guest account is not there just after I upgrade it into windows 10). As I tried to make the new Guest account and still didnt work (I dont want to follow such a complex email registration required by windows 10 to make a new user account), I thought to delete my secondary user account. However, I just realize that there is a file that I saved in the Desktop under my secondary user account. Is there a way to restore this desktop file that is saved in my deleted user account?
I have opened C:Users but I cant find the folder with the name of my deleted user account. It's very important yet big file (around 2 GB).
Win 10. Using Sleep button on my HP desktop keyboard works fine.
WIN 10 On my Surface (SP3), using Logitech K740 illuminated keyboard with Docking station.
No obvious sleep button on the keyboard.

How can I create a Sleep hot button, or what is best shortcut to create sleep, rather then waiting for automatic sleep to occur (20 minutes)?
I am using the keyboard shortcut (CNTRL+WIN+arrows) to get to different virtual desktops. But I don't like the slide effect since it kinda makes me dizzy (I have issues with vertigo). Is there a way to just have it "snap" to the different desktops without any sort of transition effect?
View 2 RepliesThe calendar continues to wipe clean the previous months dates. It will retain things like government holidays but anything I input is erased. This is frustrating because I often need to look back to see when something happened and if the calendar erases these dates it is worthless..

I currently have windows 7 on my 1TB hard drive and have recently bought a new 256gb Crucial SSD (but not installed it in my desktop yet).
I bought the SSD to be able to install games onto it so they load quicker but also if possible to have my OS booting from it so my computer loads quicker from switching on.
Someone put me onto the idea of using a program called Steam Mover to be able to move games from my HDD to the SSD without having to uninstall them and then re-download them direct to the SSD. I understand this can also be used for other programs like photoshop etc too.
I want to upgrade to Windows 10 but don't want to have to do a clean install and lose all the programs that i currently have installed such as Photoshop, Office, iTunes etc. Is it possible to somehow upgrade my OS on my HDD but then actually boot from the SSD perhaps by using the Steam Mover program?
If not, do I just have to bite the bullet and accept that I will either lose or have to reinstall a number of programs to my HDD? I do have a second 1TB HDD which is empty at the moment in case its needed for cloning files?
A few weeks back on my Surface Pro 3, I was able to view my desktop and have the tablet style on screen keyboard popup in text fields. Now if I'm in desktop mode, windows does not load the tablet style on screen keyboard when touching an input box and the keyboard icon is gone from the systray. If I'm in tablet mode, the keyboard works like it should, but I'm not able to click on a show desktop icon somewhere. Is there a way to be able to see my desktop *and* use the tablet style keyboard that auto-pops up?
Also in chrome, I am unable to click anything except the X button to close it. So far I'm regretting my upgrade to windows 10!
Is there a way i can do this without wiping the drive and loosing all my data my back up drive is on back order and i need to take my system to uefi.
View 1 RepliesIcon shortcuts on the desktop? Even with SSD drive I will boot and whilst Windows loads in seconds when the desktop displays only about 75% of the icons display correct. The rest have the generic white paper icon, then after a couple more secs the majority then display correctly save for some stragglers which will then display correctly after a couple more secs. I thought really the icons should display properly more or less instantly.
After that it's all fine but it's same behaviour each boot. I do notice very occasionally the desktop icons refresh after boot but it's very rare and seems to coincide perhaps with app updates in background / new installs. When it does happen it's similar behaviour, the majority of icons flash white for a milli second and then appear fine but there are stragglers that take a few more secs to refresh correctly
I hid the icons when I had Windows 7 because I was using Rainmeter and I didn't want them to show. I honestly don't remember how I did it but I know I didn't delete them. Now I have Windows 10 and want them back, but "show dektop icons" is checked. How could I get them back?

View 9 RepliesMy desktop icons keep rearranging and windows explorer won't save the position I put them in.
I can rearrange them but when I click 'Refresh' or if I restart explorer or if I reboot they rearrange to another setup. This happens in both normal mode and safe mode.
I have tried all the solutions available on the internet with no luck, including the obvious ones (trying all the auto-arrange and grid options) and even some more complex ones (sfc, registry tweaks).
I'm unable to do anything. During the download, everything seemed fine. It started to install apps. It then said "This is taking longer then usual, it should finish soon". I stepped out for about 10 minutes, came back and desktop was flashing with no icons. I'm unable to do anything.
View 9 RepliesI like to position all my desktop icons in a custom order, but since I took my PC into the Geeks to remove a suspected virus, my desktop icons keep returning to default positions upon restart or refresh. I've experimented with unchecking grid and align options, and even followed instructions found online that instructed me how to modify the registry, yet no success.

This happened after resizing desktop icons and then rebooting.
I have recently done an update. Now, my computer turns on fine. However the only taskbar icons I have from the extreme left is the windows 'start' image, then the cortana circle then the taskview rectangle.
From the extreme right I have the usual show desktop sliver, then a blank gap of around an inch where wifi / volume / clock should be then a rectangular speech bubble 'No new notifications' then the up arrow - which only shows a single grey square 'ELAN pointing device'.
That's it. There were several quick icons there prior. Edge, MFF, folders, ASUS update, Chrome etc. All gone.
Also, I can't actually access anything from the start window icon. Clicking it does nothing. When I hover / click it it turns red, but that's it.
All my usual desktop icons are there. I can use them but can't minimise anything. If I do minimise anything it vanishes. I can open it again via the task manager as they are still running but that's it.
The ONLY way to shut down my computer is to go to the ctrl + alt + del to the red screen and use the icons in the bottom right hand corner. I can sometimes right click on the start windows icon and it will pop up a black menu and one of the options is power / sleep / shutdown etc.
