My desktop icons have disappeared, the text associated with the icons is still present, the graphic images are missing. Clicking on the text still activates the application.

Well, I did something, but cannot find out what it was I dis or how to rectify it. This AM when starting Windows 10 Home, I had no icons on the desktop. Using the file explorer>desktop, they are there, so i did not delete them. Somehow I have hidden them from view. The normal app that controls the default icons does not have a hide/unhide, so I am at a loss.

I can no longer view my desktop and the icons on my toolbar are missing (Edge, Chrome, Word, etc.). When I reboot my computer, I can see my desktop wallpaper in the background, but there are no icons/files on it, and the windows apps are up front and center, which I cannot move or minimize (Screenshot below). Even when I have windows/applications open, the icons do not appear in the toolbar. How restore my desktop and icons to the way they used to be?

So after my computer randomly restarting itself my desktop items have gone crazy. The text is miniscule, the alignment is insane and the (for lack of a better word) hitboxes are whacked out like so:
And then I go to access my Control Panel, no luck. Doesn't open.
I then go into Display Settings/Advanced Display Settings try clicking "Advanced sizing of text and other items", again nothing. Doesn't even change screens.
I then go to Windows Update and an update is "Downloading" but stuck at 0% permanently.
*EDIT* I am using bootcamp on a MacBook Pro

I have had a problem on Windows 10. My icons for various applications (non stock) have gone missing. Many apps and games like Cities Skylines, Steam, Simcity have gone missing. They all have changed to either a globe or a blank paper icon. It has become very frustrating as I am used to looking at the icon and not actually reading the name. I have tried moving the apps from my HDD to an SSD and, nothing.

I'm currently running Build 10130. For some reason, when I view "All Apps" I have folders for my desktop apps, but nearly all of the icons for the apps themselves are missing.
I have tried the following solutions & none have fixed the problem:
SFC /scannow
DISM /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth (I've run both of those alternatively 3X in a row - based on another thread)
Deleted the icon cache in my user folder
Run the Windows Troubleshooter for Windows Update
Created a new local account & logged in.
Enabled the Administrator account & logged in.
Did a repair install of Build 10130
When I navigate to C:ProgramDataMicrosoftWindowsStart MenuPrograms I can see everything and it's all just fine. For some reason the icons simple refuse to appear on the start screen.
I've checked the permissions on those folders and they appear to be fine.
I've tried right clicking on a program and selecting "pin to start" and nothing happens.
I've checked C:UsersmynameAppDataRoamingMicrosoftWindowsStart MenuPrograms as well and it seems to be fine, but still nothing changes.
How is Windows 10 creating the Start screen icons? Is there a way to force it to rebuild everything?

It's been a few days now since icons aren't showing everywhere including Desktop (really bugs me, this one), Taskbar (Not actually disappeared, but deformed), and File Explorer. I did things like calling Task Manager up and end the process of explorer.exe and run it again, no luck. I restarted Windows, yielded no results. I also tried turning the machine off and on again, to no avail.
Here are some screenshots regarding the problem I am facing.
While Desktop and Explorer are not working as well as they should, Start Menu and Tablet Mode appear to be quite fine by themselves.
My machine is running Windows 10 Home Edition, not Insider Preview. I don't know how to find the version/build numbers, but I'm positive it's the latest build available since I just checked Windows Update.

All the app icons have disappeared from my desktop, as well as task bar and file Explorer. Where the icon should be is just a blank (but clickable) space.
I tried to manually alter the app icon by right clicking and going into properties, but no properties will open!

It seems there used to be a windows interface for the clipbrd.exe utility but if there is one in Windows 10 I cannot find it.
I am trying to add 2 <cr> (line break) or <Enter> characters to the end of anything I put in the clipboard before it gets pasted back. Since different applications appear to treat pasted items differently I would prefer to have them even if they are "extra" or in addition to any added by pasting into a particular program. 99% of the time, I am pasting to Notepad. But it seems that i get the same results no matter what i paste to or copy from. The text or image that is copied always pastes to everything with no break. If i click Paste (or Ctrl+v) twice in a row I get the items or text exactly side by side, no "eof" marker or anything else.
When trying to copy text to create a "list" it requires clicking <Enter> twice after each paste to get it double spaced. Or at least once to keep it from not even going to the next line. In windows 7 it seems the default action included a line-feed after the paste and it was an issue to try to strip out the <cr>'s. Is there any way to get them back in Windows 10?

This is probably the most painful issue I have with Windows 10 right now (and likely previous versions as well, but I didn't have a multi-monitor setup back then).
The monitors I have are as follows: 3840x2160 (4K UHD) monitor with preferred DPI: 144 (150%)1920x1080 (Full HD) monitor with preferred DPI: 96 (100%)
Whenever one of these monitors are set as primary, all desktop applications displayed on the secondary monitor (doesn't matter which) has blurry text. Exceptions are the Windows Store Apps like Windows Store and Microsoft Edge, along with the Taskbar/Start Menu, the Taskbar/Start Menu settings screen, the Taskbar context menu, and the desktop context menu which passes the DPI test with flying colours, with crispy text on both monitors (occasionally a DPI switch bug gets in, but I can mostly ignore that). The problem is, as you can probably guess, is that >99% of the applications I use aren't Windows Store Apps.
Here are some screenshots. The "Taskbar and Start Menu Properties" text is what the text should look like while the Visual Studio 2015 text is an example of the text most desktop apps get. The blurry image is what happens when the UHD monitor is not the primary monitor. Attachment 48493Attachment 48494 Note: Both of these screenshots came from the 150% DPI monitor so it's best viewed at that (144) DPI level. The 96 DPI monitor is similarly affected.
Things I've already tried: Reinstall the graphics driver. Did this multiple times in fact for unrelated reasons.Reinstall Windows 10 (through Reset This PC recovery option). I did this for also unrelated reasons but it definitely doesn't fix this issue.Use the XP Explorer "fix". Merely worsens the problem. Adjusting Clear Type options. Alleviates the issue a bit but see next point.Disabling Clear Type on the affected monitor. The text obviously sharpens, but it's painful to read and a close inspection of the text reveals the issue isn't solved at all, only mitigated slightly.Replacing the video card. I swapped this in with my older GTX 560 Ti but it's obvious the problem remains. Both it and my current card are NVIDIAs though, so it's vaguely possible the drivers or the cards themselves are the cause. I don't have an ATI/AMD card (that still works, at least) to test the setup and every Intel iGPU I have either has only one monitor output or is incapable of handling UHD resolutions.
Things I won't try: Setting both monitors' DPI to 96. Text would become microscopic considering the UHD monitor's actual size.Use the text resizing feature instead. I'm going take a wild guess that this is not monitor-specific and would cause everything on the HD monitor to be far too large to the point that I'd rather unplug it.
Looking for multi-resolution, multi-DPI, multi-monitor setup with or without this issue? The text is painful to read on whichever is the secondary monitor right now, and is extremely apparent whenever the background is dark.

After checking and configuring my router I went to the regular desktop view which is plain and looks like Win7. Only the quick access, internet icon, notices, language and clock icons were visible. I had created a new toolbar which referenced the start menu in Windows Program Data. It was spread across the taskbar rather than compacted and previously available by clicking on the title Programs tucked in beside Quick Access.
There was no visible line to use with the cursor for dragging this bunch of links across into the right side area. I removed that toolbar.
The few daily use Taskbar shortcut icons when created cannot be dragged to the taskbar even if I lock it. (Browser, email, Notepad++,Everywhere search and a link to a Quick Stack popup collection of shortcuts). Any open application is not displaying on the taskbar
Considered a 'Restore' and checked the list of restore points with a utility System Restore Explorer and it lists Oct.20 as the last restore point. I'm assuming Win10 does not do a daily restore point.
The last system image is Oct.7 so several Windows updates would have to be done over and there are a couple of those. Is there a registry edit or workaround to restore the taskbar so shortcuts can be pinned there?

There is a feature missing with screen configuration under Windows 10 and new Amd drivers Crimson, even the last WHQL ones (15.12). The Amd setting do not have the screen configuration, no more.
The driver choose ( I guess) the screen number 1 by its connection type Hdmi vs the screen number 2 the vga one (by default the main screen, in Italian "schermo principale")
It's impossible to change that order . And it can be a problem because if the screen 1, a Panasonic plasma through its Hdmi-2 port), is turned off (not the stand-by) the screen 2 do not became the active screen and no login screen is displayed on start. Obviously when screen 1 is turned on the issue ends.

Ever since I installed Windows 10, a lot of text and icons in the search menu are not showing up ever. I've tried the obvious things such as restarting my computer and making sure I have all Windows updates. My start menu and everything else seems to work normally. I have just plugged in a second monitor to my PC, the resolution of both monitors are as recommended (1) is 1366 x 768 and the other (2) which is the main display is 1920 x 1080 - I would like to increase the size of the font, task bar icons etc on my main display (2) but when I go to the "advanced sizing of text and other items" and then to the "Change only the text size" I cannot select specific items as this part is grayed out and I cant click on it. Could it be because I am trying to change something on the (2) monitor (even though it is ticked as my main display)?
