Disable Login Screen Netplwiz Did Not Work?
Mar 14, 2016
I want to remove the login screen from Windows then but when I followed the suggest route through typing netplwiz into Run, and unchecking the account, it still doesn't work. I think the issue might be the other accounts. In my list, there is me, the administrator, but then there are also these other accounts. I went to User Accounts in Control Panel to remove them but they aren't there. What to do? I attached a photo to show what it looks like when I run netplwiz.

I activated the ctrl alt disable login screen for Windows 10 by using this registry key from this forum.(Lock Screen - Enable or Disable in Windows 10 - Windows 10 Forums).
I downloaded and installed the key to disable only to find it didn't work so I tried to manually do it by changing the number from 0 to 1 only to find its already at 1.
I also tried going the user passwords2 to find the box to disable ctrl alt disable login is already ticked, but is greyed out meaning I can't untick the box.

How can I get rid of the login requirement when booting into Win 10. It is bad enough that it DEMANDS a login on a home personal PC (If someone is in my house then I have been broken into), BUT MS goes farther and insists it has to be a passwork of a certain strength containing this many characters and so many upper and numeric - there has to be a way to defeat this. I tried leaving the field blank and it will have nothing to do with that.

How Do I Disable The Windows Login Screen Every Time We Reboot?

Alright so for some reason ever since I've "upgraded" to Windows 10 from Windows 8.1 I've been having numerous issues with my computer taking a very long time to boot and I've noticed it is logging me in sometimes without asking me for my password at boot. I really want to stop the black screens as waiting 5-10 minutes every time I turn my computer on is annoying. Also I don't see why it would log me in without prompting for my password as why else would I have a logon password?

I had Win 8.1 started 2h ago updating to Win 10. After update log in(first log in) was really long, but that is no problem. The problem is after the log in only black screen and cursors appears. I tried ctrl+alt+delete it works but wen i click on task manager it sends me back with message. Task Manager Stopped Responding.
I tried Restart,Safe Mode with internet connection,Safe Mode(it fails even in safe mode). I will now even try delete all my personal documents and setting maybe that will work (clean install). *Clean install worked* (hour 2 later)
Upgrading now video card driver i guess different drivers because diff. OS and DirectX( DirectX 12 i think ). But with clean installed Win 10 did not activated by it self (6 hours later). Went to activated manually by press of a button but failed for some reason have to now wait for tomorrow to talk to microsoft people.

I'm trying to clean up the Users on my husband's computer since being locked out via the Microsoft Account when even after changing the password online in the correct place still got Password Incorrect message on login. All good now using Local Account.
Using netplwiz, his account showed the following:
Administrator HomeUsers; Administrators
His-name HomeUsers; Administrators
HomeGroupUser$ HomeUsers (even though the network has NO Homegroup now)
UpdatusUser HomeUsers (used for NVIDIA updates so probably OK)
So I deleted the HomeGroupUser$ account.
This is a lot different to mine which just shows one account: My name Administrators. His Administrator account may be the one I enabled to access the computer during the lockout though I did go back afterwards and re-set it to /active:no. Should I leave this there?
What I really want to do is to remove the Microsoft Account. When I went to Settings etc and clicked on Remove Account, it said if I remove this account it will remove email and all content associated with it. There also seems to be an account listed under Email. This email address is not actually an Outlook email address as it is a private email address I set up from his website. He doesn't use the Mail facility on W10. So I imagine that closing the MS Account will in no way impact on this email address used via Thunderbird and the removal relates only to the USE of this address for his MS Account.

I'm having troubles disabling the password that is required at startup. With my previous laptop(also Windows 10) the 'netplwiz' trick worked, but now it does not (screenshot 1). Another strange thing is that I always have to choose between two user accounts while I only have 1 user account (screenshot 2). I suspect that one account is a Microsoft account en the other one a local account.

I have two login issues.
1. After installing W10, it seems rebooting brings up two accounts with the same email address. The first account is linked to my live.com account and uses the live.com password to login. The live.com login is what I wanted and I set up the PC to auto login with those credentials. But now this second login option pops up and kills the auto login. This second login seems to allow for a local or domain login. How do I disable that second login option?
2. I was putting up with item 1, but today I have managed to lock myself out altogether. Since I have my W10 connected to a TV and am viewing from a distance, I right clicked on the desktop and changed the font size to 150%. It asked me to logoff so that this change could take effect. When coming back up the live.com logon password box only seems to take 5 characters. My password is 9 characters. I am now locked out of my PC.
I am now on my Chromebook and have confirmed the live.com password is still valid (just in case that is the problem).

This is a thing that was also on 8.1 (that I hated a lot) and i couldnt remove. I have 2 accounts on my pc (home and my own account) and everytime i turn the pc on, the last account that was used logs in automatically (mine asks password actually, but the home's one doesn't, so it just logs in).
This is a thing i hate, since makes me waste time login out and login with the account i want to use. Is out there any option for disable that? In 8.1 that wasn't possible.

I'm stick on the below screen. My keyboard and mouse will not respond. I don't get a login prompt. The time is correct and the little icon in the bottom right indicates if my Ethernet cable is connected.
I had Window 7. I used the microsoft provided upgrade to install windows 10. The process seemed to have completed successfully. I was able to get a login prompt once and successfully logged in. I opted to not send any information to microsoft at the initial propts. I got to my desktop, everything seemed to be working ok. I thought there were a few startup apps I didn't need in my tray. So I turned off auto startup on login for OneDrive, Skype, and my logitech camera. I restarted and now I get stuck at this screen.
The time updates correctly over time, its not frozen. I can plugin/unplug the Ethernet cable and the little icon in the bottom right will change to indicate if it has internet. I can press the power button on my computer and it correctly interprets that as a shutdown command and it gracefully shuts down.
My mouse/keyboard wont work. They used to work fine. I am able to use the mouse/keyboard in my BIOS with out a problem. However the moment the system starts to load, the lights on my keyboard and mouse go out and they become unresponsive. I tried various combinations of pluging the USB keyboard/mouse into different ports. I tried using different mouses and keyboards. I tried disabling legacy USB support in the BIOS. Nothing works.
I tried getting into safe mode but can't. Most solutions to get into safe mode require your system to already be working correctly. Holding F8 or F8+Shift don't work.
I'm currently installing windows 10 on my lap top so I can try to create a restore disk. Which should then allow me to go into safe mode and try to repair what ever has gone wrong.
My computer is sporting an i7 with 16 gigs of memory. I use a 128gb SSD for my system and have 3 other hard drives for various data storage. No other OS installed. The computer has been functioning fine for the last two years.

I did a bit of research and this seems to have been an issue for a while, or has been in the past. Was upgrading to windows 10, I first had to restart my pc cause it was initially stuck on that preparing to install problem with the green bar being stuck around 25%.
It then got through that and began the installation process with the big circle and rebooting process. However around 91% when I last looked at it it was just black screen, this stayed this way for about 3-4 hours. I then decided to reboot the pc and it has now booted to the login screen. Is this a known bug or could there be a possible issue?
The problem seems a bit different as some people I saw have had to fall back on PC restore points etc. So not sure if it installed or what could be the problem.
Also side note, I upgraded my pc when windows 10 first publically released, but rolled back because I had about 5min shutdown times.

I reinstalled windows the day before yesterday and since then every time I turn my laptop on after entering my password the screen turns off for like 2 seconds then turns back on. This have never happened to me before. I tried putting my old windows back via Macrium Reflect and I even tried reinstalling it again but neither of those things worked. I have an Acer Aspire V3-572g laptop.

I upgraded from Windows 8 to 10 without a hitch an hour ago and kept all of my personal files and apps. I set up my start menu and everything was working fine, but I wanted to change the image on the logon screen (or whatever you call the screen in between the lock screen and the screen where you enter your PIN/info). So I took a risk and downloaded the 3rd party app here:
[URL] and uploaded an image and hit apply. Of course right after doing that I went to lock my PC to see if it worked, and as you can tell... it didn't.
I've tried rebooting and it hasn't worked. It's just very rapidly flashing between a blue screen w/ a loading circle and my lock screen image.

The black screen occurs before login screen. It happens randomly. I have to move the mouse (haven't tried pressing keyboard) and it will show the login screen and windows will continue normally. On my device driver it shows only 1 display adapter that is NVIDIA GTX 970. My motherboard is H87-PLUS and its specs shows that it does have an Integrated Graphics Processor.
Tried installing Intel Graphics Driver but just shows 'This computer does not meet the minimum requirements for installing this software.' Tried disabling the lock screen too but its not working. Tried putting PCI-E as the default graphics in BIOS but its not working either. how could I prevent the black screen from showing up again?

This issue has plagued me since I've transitioned to Windows 8 and up. The Lock Screen feature (primarily ctrl + w) gets in the way of using certain programs. I've tried a few methods, all of which either don't work or stopped working.
Registry Editor
Local Group Policy Editor
And Winaero Tweaker
Is there any other way to disable this feature? It's the only problem I have with this OS. As I've said before, one of the methods worked fine but I feel that an update might have nullified my changes.

I've got a feeling I'm missing something really basic but I am unable to disable the lock screen that appears after approx 5 minutes of inactivity. I've used registry and deactivated it following tutorials but that has only stopped the lock screen on start up.
I'm sure I've got it turned off in settings but it still appears.

When I got home and turned my computer on I was made to sit through several interstitial screens after logging on.
>>Hi
>>We've updated your PC
>>All your files are exactly where you left them
It wasted my time giving me no more information than a notification in the system tray. I had to sit through it twice because I had to re-login as an administrator to repair registry settings for a monitor that the update apparently unfixed, which made it feel sarcastically obnoxious. "All your files are exactly where you left them... but we secretly changed some on you!" My blood pressure went up.

When I start up my laptop, this new Windows 10 has the lock screen. It has that picture of the sea and rocks etc. All I need to do is click it and it disappears .. but I don't want the nuisance lock screen. I don't have a touch screen, I still use my mouse and pad. This lock screen is just another click I have to do to get started. How to disable the lock screen.

I tried to disable the lock screen on windows 10 through regedit.
I went to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE SOFTWARE Policies Microsoft Windows
but instead of creating a new folder PERSONAL i went to the right pane and created a new DWORD (NoLockScreen) and set value to 1.
Now when power up my laptop it goes into diagnose mode and I have to do a restore point before I can get in.
I tried doing a serach for DWORD and No Lock Screen in regedit but cannot find it.

I have been having a problem with disabling the touchscreen in my windows 10 laptop. At one point, my laptop fell on cement. Luckily no hardware was damaged except for the screen's glass, losing its touchscreen capability. The problem is that the screen keeps recording false touches, making it difficult to get work done. I took the liberty of disabling the screen on Device Manager, however, after a few boots, the touch screen was somehow re enabled. I tried uninstalling the device, but it is built into the windows operating system and would simple be re enabled at the next boot. Is there any way to keep windows from recognizing the touchscreen without physically removing the touchscreen?
