I'm using Windows 10 on my PC. I have been using it for about 3 months now and I regret installing it. There is so many problems with it. One of these problems is my disk drive will not play or run any disks I insert into it. In the file explorer, the disk drive is not present in the "Devices and Drives" section. However, It is still present in the Device manager.

View 4 RepliesI need to replace the personal.xlsb file to my Excel XLSTART folder on my C: Drive but I do not seem to bore down to XLSTART using file explorer. If I go to this pc and choose C: then Users, then my user name I get only such things a Documents, Favorites, One Drive, etc. I need to get to AppData and then bore down to XLSTART. how to get C: completely?
View 2 RepliesUnder the Network tab of File Explorer, I can see three entries, one of which is my router (with attached Hard Drive) and two computers, each running Windows 10. When I expand the router entry, I can see my hard drive files. I can also see my Users icons when I expand one of the computer's tabs. However, when I click on the other computer's name to search for users, all I see is a message that "This folder is empty". In fact, the folder is not empty, as there are two users on the computer. How I can get this computer to show users, etc.?
View 6 RepliesI have two physical disks in my notebook, one simple partition each, BitLocker encrypted. Drive C:, which is my system drive and drive D:, for some media stuff.Windows Version is Windows 10.0.10586 x64.I have configured VSS to use the "Previous Versions" feature in case I accidentally delete or overwrite a file. I did this on my Win7 install to and it saved my butt at least three times.
VSS is running (Volume Shadow Copy Service set to "Manual"), snapshots are there but when I right-click on a modified file (or on the root of the disk) and click "Previous Versions", my D: drive correctly displays the existing snapshots, on my system drive C: there is always a "There are no previous versions available" message. But, when I click the "System Restore..." button, I get a list with my snapshots, so I guess I could restore my system.
configuration seems to be ok and the two manual snapshots are there on both drives. For the moment there is no system restore point, but it does not work with snaps created by them either.

Using Win10 Pro x64. I would like to disable windows showing .zip files in explorer as a folder...When you highlight it the contents inside the .zip are shown in the right pane view. I've scoured the net and found ways for Win7(which I did disable .zip folders on my other Win7 machine) and Vista, perhaps 8 too but I don't want to risk trying a method for older versions of windows. Any solution/reg hack or whatever to disable .zip folder?

Problem: When I go to File Explorer, in the left panel, when I click on a folder name, the contents of that folder (both sub-folders and files) show in the right panel.
In the left panel, when I click on ">" beside a folder name, it will expand in the left panel showing the sub-folders, but not "loose files".
I could have sworn that in earlier versions of Windows the files also showed.
Is there a option setting somewhere to change this behavior and to show the files also in the left panel?
When I edit a .mkv file (rename, delete or copy/move) on one of my partitions, file explorer freezes and I need to restart it with taskmanager.
I haven't encountered any other files that cause the same freeze as this one (yet..).
I already searched on google and tried editing from a webbrowser and the drive is defragmented automatically, so I don't know what to do.
Ever since I upgraded to W10, I get this problem wherein if I insert a disk in either of my two optical drivers, it would take Windows forever to read them and if I click them before they complete loading, Windows would become unresponsive and Explorer would crash. Mind you, it also happens even if the contents of the disk have already loaded. But even though the contents of the disk have showed, they all have blank white icons.I already tried sfc /scannow and they it reported no issues.
View 1 RepliesI'm currently on a PC with a 250GB SSD (Samsung EVO850 M.2). Recently my PC suddenly was out of storage and I wondered why, since I though I still had at least half of the storage free.
So I decided to run WinDirStat to figure out which directories were taking up all the space. As you can see in the screenshot it shows completely different values for the used space by the C drive. For your info, I only have a C drive, no second disk or second partition.
Currently we run 5 workstations on win7/8 on old hardware. In the near future, we want to migrate to windows 10 - and use the free upgrade offer from ms.Problem is, we'll get new hardware for all workstations. So the plan is, to build the new hardware. install win7/8 on every new hardware and use the free upgrade on the new hardware. After that, a new clean-install will be made.the clue is, besides the OS it'll take very much time to install all 3rd party software on the machines.To skip this work, we would like to duplicate the harddisk after the setup of the whole system is done. This should be possible from driver-side, because the hardware will be identical.
But now comes the win10 licence question :-) I know win10 will recognice the hardware and validate the licence due to the win7 upgrade. but what will happen if i switch the harddisk to the new system?or i can try to keep the system unlicenced (no network connection. Best way?) until i mirror the harddisk. There is no internet to update the other parts of the system ...
My DVD driver is not reading that a DVD is present. Windows Media Player says the drive is empty when it has a DVD inside. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the driver (E) but nothing has changed. I'd like to watch movies again.

View 5 RepliesI recently upgraded my windows 7 to windows 10. I have had everything activate properly. I then decided to do a fresh install of windows 10. I loaded boot media on my pc and everything went fine. Now with the fresh install of windows 10, at boot up, I get the option to choose windows 10 or windows 7. How to I change this so it ALWAYS defaults and boots windows 10? Considering I wiped my hard drive clean windows 7 shouldn't even be an option.

I've looked all over but I can't find a solid way to do it. I also only have a iMac as another computer so I'm not sure if it will affect how to put Windows 10 onto the USB drive. View 1 RepliesI successfully installed 14257; however, I have nothing but problems with it. I cannot get Internet explorer to work. It freezes up, cannot use the back or forward arrow, cannot change addresses, and at one time I received an error message saying something about a Microsoft Visual C++ runtime error message. I looked in my installed application files, Visual C++ is there, I ran a 'repair' on it, and the repair reported it installed without problems. I also cannot open most of the windows applications (Edge, Feedback, etc) then I cannot open any applications as the 'window' button freezes up. I have been able to run sfc /scannow, which reports no issues found and all system files are intact. I am destined to scrap the insider preview on this computer. It works on my laptop but the laptop is too slow and cumbersome to use. while Internet explorer will not work, it does open and I can view web pages but only those that are already on MSN (my home page). I cannot resize IE, nor can I move it anywhere else on the desktop.
Update: I went to Microsoft, downloaded Visual Studio C++ for Windows 10 that didn't get installed. The install seems to have corrected my problems. I can now open IE, EDGE, Feedback, and my start button works again.
My WD red 1tb hard drive wont appear on disk management but I know it is being found some how because it comes up under hardware.

Then i tried defragmenting my c drive but the results were the same every time. I defragmented the c drive 30 times with different software and stuff but the results didnt change.

View 9 RepliesI recently purchased a new Alienware Laptop with Windows 10 installed. I'm having issues where on start-up, programs such as File Explorer, Internet Explorer etc. are taking 5-10 mins to load, whilst Apps such as Windows Edge load straight away. If I also try to open say my C Drive on File Explorer once it loads, I just get the Blue Loading Disc for another 5-10 mins until that loads.
But if I restart my laptop, everything then seems to run fine after that (but obviously I don't want to have to keep doing that as a permanent solution). I'll run a Virus Scan and make sure there's nothing bad on there...
I have successfully upgraded to Windows 10 from Windows 7 (and solved the initial network connection problems).
However my OS has a lot of crud from the pre-upgrade state and I would like to do a clean install of Windows 10, without losing any old data files. I've read online guides on doing clean installs of Windows 10, but it is not clear whether you can only install into partitions that already have a valid Windows OS installed.
My computer has two identical hard disks, one of which is (or can be made) blank so what I would like to do is keep one with the 'cruddy' version of Windows 10 - at least until I have copied over all the files I want to keep and made sure I've installed all the software I want on the new 'clean install' Windows 10.
So, are there people out there who have done this? Are there things I should look out for?
I have a program that I wanted to install into my Win 10 Pro Machine (64 Bit) and have found that the disk can not be read by the DVD/CD-ROM Drive. I also tried it in another Windows 10 Computer (64 Bit) and it also can't read the disk.The disk worked fine under Windows 7, in both the same computers. The drive works as it reads other CD/DVD's.
The disk is good as it works perfect in an other Windows 7 (32 Bit) and Vista computers (32 Bit). Computer is up to date with builds etc.
After downloading Windows 10 my disk drive has stopped recognising that I have any sort of disc in it, I believe this is because of the Windows 10 download as I was using it up until the point of the upgrade.
View 1 RepliesI am getting a low disk space message from my system backup drive. It's 1 TB and it is full. There are not any files that I can delete. They are all system files.
Two questions:
1. Why is it so large?
2. Can I install a new larger drive and have it move the system files there?
