View 2 RepliesI was wondering if going from Windows 8.1 to 10 Will erase all of my data?
View 1 RepliesSo recently Windows 10 came out and I manually downloaded the Media Creation tool and started upgrading my PC BUT I had to turn it off and all of the data that it downloaded has taken up my small amount of space in my SSD (I only have 16 GB left) where does this tool store all of it's data so I could delete it.
View 9 RepliesMy system install of build 10162 won't activate, as they pulled the validation from these builds. Unfortunately, I can't upgrade to 10240, which can, I was told by Windows support, be activated. This is because Windows isn't already activated!!! (Windows Update won't download it (it always stays at 0% )).
To solve this, I want to upgrade manually and thus I flashed the ISO on a blank USB stick. Can I keep all my data and app settings, etc. if I upgrade using the ISO on the stick? Or, in other words, is it possible to "upgrade" when installing an ISO, or do I have to do a clean install?
If I decide to do a clean install of Windows 10, can I just disconnect my Data HDD from SATA/Power during the process? This would be really ideal since I only have docs/installers/music/videos/photos and could even backup my current steam library. I don't have an external drive to back up anything with, and I don't see why it'd be needed here.
I feel like the internal drive is acting similar to how an external drive acts anyway
how can I delete "saved password" and "form data" of microsoft edge manually ?!
after too much search in google ....
I trid to delete some value of the following registry address
HKEY_CURRENT_USERSOFTWAREClassesLocal SettingsSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionAppContainerStoragemicrosoft.microsoftedge_8wek yb3d8bbweMicrosoftEdge

and finally I could not find the way ...!!!
Our desktop used to be our only PC. Everyone had an account and logged in to use it.
We now all have our own notebooks. I removed all the accounts on the PC but the main admin.
We have upgraded to Windows 10. I notice under windows explorer/network there are still old media devices based on the old accounts I have deleted. How can I delete/remove these media devices?
I ran the upgrade and now have a Windows.old folder taking up 31GBs. If you are not planning on rolling back to 8.1, you can remove this folder following these steps: Windows.old Folder - Delete in Windows 10 - Windows 10 Forums
View 1 RepliesI tried to download win10 twice with media tool but it reached ~75% and then its just gone without any error ... however this is not the problem.
I think the downloaded 75% are still stored on my C drive because i have a folder called $Windows.~WS its empty (there is folder called Source but also empty) but 5.26 GB in size (invisible data) .i want to delete it to save some space but im afraid that "get windows 10 app" is downloading in it and i dont want to delete it ( im still waiting for the notification though)so
1) is get windows 10 app downloading? knowing im still waiting the notification?
2) if 1 = true how to delete the media tool failed downloads?else if 1=false is it safe to delete the whole folder?
I upgrade to windows 10 after a month of it being out. I still have the windows 8.1 recovery media I made for my system do I need to make windows 10 recovery media for it? or will the windows 8.1 recovery media work and will I be able to re upgrade if I ever have to use it after the free upgrade period runs out? System specs below ....
View 9 RepliesI have upgraded to Windows 10 and it's activated. Now I want to do a clean install using the "media creation tool", but I'm not sure if it's going to affect my C drive only or all the partitions. And also, should I just reset the PC from the recovery option in the settings?
View 2 RepliesI am in the same boat as a lot of people in these threads and unfortunately, Windows 10 is not automatically installing. I've downloaded the Media Creation Tool (x64) and have my original Windows 7 Product Key, but is there any specific disadvantage to installing with the tool instead of waiting for my reserved copy?
For instance, will I forfeit my reservation for a complete, free copy of Windows 10? Will I not receive a decades worth of updates?
My DELL Latitude laptop came with Windows 8.1 Pro x64 on it. I decided that I want to upgrade it to Windows 10 Pro x64.Before I did anything I used DELL Backup and Recovery to create a flash drive so I can always restore the PC back to factory if anything goes wrong during the upgrade process.
After creating the recovery media I used the Windows 10 upgrade wizard to upgrade to Windows 10 carrying over all of my existing files. I primarily did this so my Windows 8.1 Product Key which is injected into the motherboard would officially become a Windows 10 Product Key.Now I would like to do a 100% clean install of Windows 10 through a bootable Windows 10 USB flash drive that I just got done creating but have a few questions:I booted from the flash drive and went to Custom (Advanced) install and I am currently viewing all of the partitions:
Drive 0 Partition 1: "ESP" type: (System)
Drive 0 Partition 2: "DIAGS" type: (OEM)
Drive 0 Partition 3: "" type: MSR (Reserved)
Drive 0 Partition 4: "WINRETOOLS" (Recovery)
Drive 0 Partition 5: "OS" type: (Primary)
Drive 0 Partition 6: "" type: (Recovery)
Drive 0 Partition 7: "PBR Image" (Recovery)
Which of these are DELL related and which of these are just the additional partitions Windows automatically installs? Can I just delete them all and fresh install Windows 10 on Unpartitioned space? Is there any that are non operating system related and might be worth keeping like the DIAGS one? Will my DELL Backup and Recovery media rely on any of these if I delete them and then try to use it later on?Is there any use for any single one these anymore now that I have backup recovery media and will be going to Windows 10?
I have removed the hard drive and have in in a caddy, but the data files are not where I expect them to be. In the Users folder, all the folders (Documents, Desktop etc) are empty.
View 8 RepliesI used my Vista Home Premium 32 bit OS to create data file back-ups to an external hard drive. I bought and used the Win 10 Home 64 bit disk to install Win 10. I have copied the " Backup Set" to my C drive, but I can not open any files. Vista was "Backup & Restore"..... Is Restore different from copying?
View 3 RepliesMy hard drive shows 20 more GB of space but everything is gone that I used or saved on the computer. I did not back up everything since the info I read said I would not loose this information.
Is there any way to retrieve it or roll back the hard drive to Windows 7 and retrieve the data I lost?
I've upgraded from win 8.1 to 10. after upgrade all my files were in local disk user and in the folders but were not in library folders e.g pics were in local disk user pictures but not in file explorer pictures. so i moved every thing to the folders and after restarting my laptop everything was gone... what can i do to recover my data.
View 1 RepliesJust upgraded to windows 10 and cant find any of my old files from windows 7 How do i find my data, music and video files that were on windows 10
View 1 RepliesWhen trying to delete some files I get a dialog box entitled Interrupted Action with a second line saying 'Invalid MS-DOS Function". It appears any files from Windows 7 will not delete.
View 4 RepliesI recently deleted some mp3 files and folders, then when I emptied the Recycle Bin I inadvertently answered "no" to the "are you sure you want to delete these files" question. Now they are sitting on my recent files / frequent folders page and will not delete again. When you analyze them they are 0 bytes, so not taking up any space (also may be the reason they won't delete) but they are cluttering the area and I need to get rid of them. My laptop is brand new, under warranty, but Dell support saying it's a software issue. I went on You Tube and found one video that demonstrated a method of deleting them through the "Command Prompt" screen, but this didn't work.
View 1 RepliesAs I was teaching a class today Windows 10 started an update that I did not approve. It just started. When it booted back up there was a dialogue box saying all my files were where I left them. When I click on the listing of the 20 most recent files in Word, I can open those. But the folders in which they were housed cannot be found.
View 1 RepliesThere are 3 boxes that refer to Win 10 installation and when you try to delete them it says you will not be able to go back to your previous OS.It is substantial space as I believe one box contains something like x amount of GB's.I have imaged Win 10 so I think could delete them but isn't it more likely I should keep them in case I need to go back and an image failed? Is it subjective or is there a rule of thumb regarding this issue?
View 2 RepliesMy Inspirio 14 laptop currently has 5.74 GB of useless files sitting around in it, but none of the tools to delete them are working. Both Disk Cleanup and the option in the menu at:Settings>System>Storage>This PC>Temporary Files.Disk Cleanup won't even start, even allowing for some time. (I waited a full hour for it, still nothing.)I need to know where I can access these files to delete them myself. I already deleted things in the %temp% and prefetch folders, which brought it from 6.25GB to 5.74. I have tried running Disk Cleanup from every menu and shortcut it has, but none have worked.
View 1 RepliesSettings -> System -> Storage -> c:/ -> Temporary Files will not delete.
I have 56gigs of temp files that I can't touch/find/remove. The delete temporary files will not work to clear this. I've tried various Ccleaner and disk clean up.
