Documents (Word And Excel) All Missing After Migration?
Aug 11, 2015
I have a problem where all my Office 2013 documents (word and Excel) disappeared after migrating to Windows 10. Microsoft support just say that they have gone without a trace. Not much support there. Fortunately I have a 99% backup but I now do not trust Windows 10 not to lose more. I think there is a bug in the migration but cannot get the message to Microsoft

I am using Word 2013 on my laptop. Windows 8 was operating system. Recently upgraded to Windows 10. When I save Word documents now, they are saved as Wordpad documents. (.xml files) Wordpad does not recommend some of the Word formatting and alters the documents.
How do I correct this? I want the save as Word documents, as I did in the past.

I recently upgraded from windows 8.1 to windows 10. I can no longer print word or excel files since the upgrade yet the printer works fine, other files such as from Acrobat Reader print fine. When I print something flickers on the screen but too fast to read, and the job does not show up in my print q. The troubleshooter shows everything is working fine. I have tried printing new files and old archived files and nothing prints in Excel, yet the program otherwise works fine. What can I try to resolve this?

So jump lists via my taskbar and windows 10, I'm not having much joy. I've just got a new desktop (Jan 2016) with windows 10 pre-loaded and I installed office 2010 - jump lists didn't work - so I thought I'll uninstall and install office 2016 64bit - jump lists still don't work....
But they work for IE and notepad and file explorer but not for firefox or photoshop elements. I've tried deleting the files from:
%APPDATA%MicrosoftWindowsRecentAutomaticDestinations
%APPDATA%MicrosoftWindowsRecentCustomDestinations
And rebooting but to no avail. I really need jump lists working for Excel & Word.

why my Office Word 2013 automatically makes copies of the documents I edit? These copies are numbered: *(1).docx, *(2).docx, etc. I am working on an essay and now I have ten copies of the same file.

When I click one of the shortcuts in the start menu, I am informed that windows cannot find the specified location.
When I try to navigate to the location, windows wont let me select it. Windows is looking for a file to navigate to when I get that prompt but, I need to specify a folder to get the shortcut I want. I tried to use a shortcut as well but, when I select, it opens the file location and cant be used as a specified file from what I can tell.

I have a huge issue with my desktop PC at the moment. Everything was fine when I was using my PC yesterday but upon startup today a system message appeared saying that the desktop file in the system32 folder couldn't be found and my desktop was a black screen with nothing but recycle bin(I did have lots of shortcuts and folders). Shorty after other applications such as Skype prompted me to locate the files or reinstall the software.
Using the recycle bin on the desktop i accessed the files(or lack thereof) to find all of the document, video, picture, ect. drives empty with strange string of random numbers and letters(looks like hexadecimal?) at the top where it would normally say "documents" or whatever. Whilst the documents are gone the C drive is perfectly intact with program files and other stuff. The start menu does not work either so I cannot access control panel or command prompt but "windows key + x" shortcuts still work.
To my knowledge I haven't installed any suspicious software as I am well versed enough in computers to not click any old pop up, in fact I do not remember installing anything. I can't access my PC specs as control panel cant be accessed but it is a vibox gaming pc and is on windows 10. I cannot access chrome or any internet browser on my PC.

I moved the Windows 10 installation of my mother's PC from a hard drive to a SSD using DriveImageXML drive2drive feature with Windows running. I copied the boot system partition and the Windows partition (C then booted with the new system partition. But even if I booted on the system partition on the SSD, it started Windows 10 on the hard drive. I used BCDEdit to change Device and osDevice to the SSD partition and rebooted, it switched to the SSD.
Everything was working fine, EXCEPT the start menu !!! It won't open ! I see there are many possible causes for this start menu issue. I tried multiple solutions (SOLVED: Fix Windows 10 Start Button Does Nothing in 10 Minutes - Up & Running Technologies Calgary and SOLVED: Windows 10 Start Menu and Modern Apps Do Not Function - Up & Running Technologies Calgary), none worked.
I decided to create a new user and everything is fine. This is pretty annoying because I'm afraid to move Windows 10 to another hard drive now. Never had any issue with previous Windows.

I am switching to an ssd soon but my W10 key is a digital entitlement. I was given an iso of W10 from windows tech support in case I ever needed to reinstall W10.
If I install W10 using the iso that is now on a flash drive (media creation tool) to a brand new ssd, will the digital entitlement key be transfered as well, or will i have to purchase a copy of W10?

If I do a fresh install from a USB for Windows 10, after it's installed, will all the drivers be there from 8.1? Or do I need to manually download ALL the drivers again? This seems like a huge oversight if people want to do a fresh install to not bring over old windows (registry, errors, corrupt, and otherwise) files.

I've trying out the new preview, 10240. Everything works fine except for the default documents folder (and the same for Images). As my screenshots reveal, by default the documents and images folder are the ones with OneDrive. (My system is in Spanish, but it seems self-explanatory, I believe)
After some examination, I located the "Storage" section in the new settings window and I see that the default folder for Documents is OneDrive. However, after I set to "This PC (Drive C)" it doesn't do anything, as as soon as I close the window, the option reverts back to OneDrive.
I actually like and use OneDrive, and I had no problems with it with Win8.1. So I don't want to disable it.

I want to save the file with the edits (same name, overwriting existing file). With Windows 7 I just hit the save button within Excel. Now with Windows 10 I can't save to the original location.A message appears " Your changes could not be saved to C:UsersGoogleDrivePersonal folderStatistics because of a sharing violation. Try saving to a different file."

I'm having an issue, ever since I installed Windows 10(upgraded, then did a clean install), I've been having issues with Excel. I have Office 2013 and everytime I open an excel document, then close it when I'm done, it freezes. Only happens on excel though, Outlook and Word work fine(only other 2 programs I use). I've done the quick repair and the Online slower repair, along with uninstalling and reinstalling Office. None of these have worked. Is this some kind of bug with Windows 10 or is it just me?
